Many people ask "What is ASMR - Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response?"
All the ASMR videos are about creating trigger sounds or visuals that stimulate responses of well being, bliss, relaxation and a host of other joyful expressions. Only a small percentage of people are triggered by these sounds and visuals. Which makes everyone else wonder why on earth we are listening and watching these videos.
Do you ever hear sounds that make you feel relaxed? White noise, people talking in the distance, repetitive sounds? Did your parents ever read books or tell you stories until you fell asleep? Did the sound of their voice make you feel safe and comfortable and it didn't really matter what they were saying...and you gently drifted off to sleep? Other sounds include drawing sounds, brushing, rubbing, tearing, tapping, crinkling, crushing sounds. I really enjoy the relaxing sounds of walking on dried leaves and pebbles as I walk through the park.
Sometimes people are triggered by visual images as well. Like watching someones hands doing something repetitive, like squishing clay or making something. For others the trigger is a deep since of connection with someone, which includes lots of eye contact, soft speaking and/or whispering and being payed attention to in detail. So, many of these videos revolve around role playing such as personal grooming, hair cutting, shampooing hair, applying nail polish, giving a massage or facial or even, doing a personal exam, like an eye or ear exam.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For those of you who are new to ASMR, please keep an open mind. Not everyone experiences this phenomenon.

just a friendly note: learned this in art school in the 1980's: Sharpie tips will not wear down if you don't apply pressure. Felt tip pens are not supposed to be pushed down on-- you just let them flow. Also, if a Sharpie dries out run it under room temperature water for a second, recap it and put it in a cup upright. You can revive them several times (provided you didn't use all the marker in one sitting, of course... which would have to be a huge drawing. LOL). By the way, the fine tip Sharpies I prefer with a bit of a warn down edge when just doodling on regular paper. For drawings (sacred geometry, Islamic designs, etc.) I prefer old school illustration pens. By the way. .. thank you for your videos. I enjoy watching you draw! :) Good luck with the Sharpies. Rehydrating Them saves a lot of money!
@chalicemagic
@chalicemagic 8 лет назад
Thank you for the tip on rehydrating Sharpies. :-) The thing is I push down hard on them to create the sounds for my ASMR videos. Of course I wouldn't do that with my fine tip markers. Also, thank for the compliment. I enjoy making these videos and it's nice to know they are appreciated.

I found this video like 2 years ago and I didn’t know what ASMR was, but now watching this kind of videos is the only thing that helps me sleep. Fun fact: the pattern that this lady drew stuck in my head since the first time so sometimes I find myself drawing it and I love triangles so much. I even got a tattoo of it with a phrase around.

There are many people who come here to see and learn from the art videos and don't expect the ASMR aspects of what I do. So, they think it's weird or feel uncomfortable with it. For some, it's their first experience with ASMR and they love it and want to hear and see more. But for others, they are not sensitive to it or find it irritating or even infuriating. I understand that everyone comes here for their reasons and experience my videos each in their own way. So, I'm not bothered when people dislike my work and I am over joyed by those that do like it and even more thrilled when I receive posts that someone has had a healing experience with my videos.

To Carly Frankham, whos says the following: "Ummm excuse me... "making a mess is what art is all about" is completely wrong. You are not an artist. art is about creating something that provokes an emotional response from the audience. art always has meaning and serves to make a statement or such in todays society. you could say making a mess is what craft is all about ..." I think my art evoked a pretty strong emotional response with you. My opinion is that art is all about self expression. If it creates an emotional response from the viewer, that is their option.

Dear ASMR Friends, I just got done reading a post that brought me to tears! It was from a woman who watches my videos and finds great healing in them. I am so honored to be part of this amazing woman's healing process. I make these videos initially because they helped me find my calm space within, a place where I can find calm and peace, release my stress and to function on a higher vibration. And to know that these videos are helping so many others do the same thing, I can hardly find the words to express my unbound gratitude. I so appreciate hearing these messages, they keep me so motivated to keep making these videos and also counter the evil troll messages I get from time to time. In closing, this most extraordinary woman said this, "since I can't leave the house anymore, youtube has saved me many times from just quitting. You have been a part of that. Thank you." Everyone, Keep heart and know that where we are right now is the NOW Moment, the only time we have. Hold tight to who you are, breath in a higher vibration, breath in the courage to take the next step into the next NOW moment, Breath in love, breath in the knowing that you are making a difference in this world, because you are.

For me, cutting them up is an act of meditation mingled with blissful sounds and visuals. Most of my art is a practice in non-attachment and so cutting them up is actually very liberating and has a deep sense of freedom and peace. But I have stopped cutting them up as it was making too many people upset and that is the opposite of why I was making these videos. So, now I have been giving them to people that make contributions to my channel. the money helps me buy better equipment and they get the artworks they love. It is a win / win situation.

+GodRise I whisper because some people fine it relaxing. All the ASMR videos are about creating trigger sounds or visuals that stimulate responses of well being, bliss, relaxation and a host of other joyful expressions, including a tingling sensation in the head, neck and throughout the body. Only a small percentage of people are triggered by these sounds and visuals. Which makes everyone else wonder why on earth we are listening and watching them. So, many of these videos revolve around role playing such as personal grooming, hair cutting, shampooing hair, applying nail polish, giving a massage or facia or even, doing a personal exam, like an eye or ear exam. Do you experience this sensation? What are your ASMR triggers? Are they more auditory or visual or both? Many people have felt this since childhood and thought that either they were the only one or that perhaps everyone experienced this. It seems that only a fraction of humanity that experiences this phenomenon. Here's hoping you are one of the lucky ones.

Okay, watching this was one of the weirdest experiences for me. I expected nothing, but yes, I'm definitely feeling something, scalp tingly, especially when you run your hands across the paper. I had never heard of ASMR before, so I looked it up. Turns out I've been reacting strongly to paper noises for years and I didn't even realize. I suppose it makes sense, because I've always found ocean waves to be relaxing, and it's a similar sound. The head touching, I've definitely had that for a long, long time, and known it. So, something new and weird and enjoyable I discovered about myself today. Thanks!

About 5 years ago was the time my art teacher showed us this video. She wanted to teach us how a relaxing environment can help us do art work. Out of the 25 kids in the class, Only a handful of us got the tingles and I feel very fortunate to be one of them. This video is the sole reason I started my ASMR journey through other channels. 5 years later, I'm obsessed with ASMR and still use it as a sleeping guide. I also wanted to say that if I werent introduced to this video, I would never have discovered ASMR in the first place and its unlimited opportunity to have a peaceful mind. For this reason, I'd like to thank you Sophie for all of your amazing work and effort! 💜

Please Like, comment and subscribe to my channel. Thank you!

This video was my introduction to the world of ASMR. I never understood why I loved the sounds and especially the hand smoothing down the paper before drawing. I love art and so I thought it was just my love of paper and the endless possibility of a blank sheet. It wasnt until I took note that it said ASMR in the title and did some research. I’ve been in love ever since. Thank you Sophie ❤

Your videos have also helped me tremendously. I suffer with PTSD and severe anxiety and cannot go anywhere by myself, drive myself and have trouble being alone. Your videos smooth my nervous Soul, honestly, I like the whispering because I am sound and light sensitive as well. I am an artist as well and enjoy the creative process of the videos very much. Your art has helped me stay calm when my son and husband leave the house and I am alone. You give me hope to continue my search to find someone to help me on my journey back to health. I just wanted you to know that I have been so depressed after not finding a therapist lately and searching for months and months ( in a new town). Reading the note about the woman who was so grateful to you, I am grateful as well. Please keep making your amazing, calming and healing videos. I appreciate them more than you could ever know...♥

I had no idea the impact they have made in people's lives. It's messages like yours that keep me creating these videos. I am saddened by your health issues and your frustrations and truly hope you find the care you are seeking very soon. I hold you in my thoughts and send you healing light for you to use to your highest good. Please let me know what some of your trigger sounds and visuals are that create calmness and balance for you. Know you are appreciated and loved for who you are in this moment. Sophie

Hi Sophie, Thank you for your kinds words. I have been ill for 12 years which has made my life at times, unbearable but I will never give up and never stop trying to calm down my limbic system (amygdala, hippocampus and hypothalamus). Things that calm me are gentle white noise sounds (pink and brown noise are softer and gentler), rain sounds, nature sounds (birds,etc), the sound of your marker as you draw is quite pleasant, in fact, our cat Kitten was sitting watching your video and she was mesmerized by it so it seems to effect all beings in a positive and calming way. Also I have recently been trying some self-talk saying (outloud) "calm this body system, calm my chakras, calm my racing thoughts, calm my breathing, calm my heart rate...." this is something new I am trying in front of a mirror while I gesture both hands in a downward slow calming motion over and over. Seems to be helping quite a bit when I am really feeling overly anxious. Hope this helps you to know what works for me. Thank you for your positive energy, your grounded and peaceful presents here on RU-vid and your videos are the BEST...Namaste, Dawn

First of all, Nancy, I'm not whispering to be cute. Nor am I whispering to make it difficult for hearing impaired people to watch/listen to my video. I whisper because it's an ASMR technique that helps trigger blissful and calming responses in certain people. I try my best to alert people who are watching my videos that this is an ASMR video by putting ASMR in the title of the video.

Do you experience ASMR through the audial or visual or both from viewing/listening to ASMR videos? I've been having a conversation with a subscriber about people that have written to me about getting the tingles by exclusively watching the visual aspects of ASMR videos as well as watching people (their hands) doing repetitive tasks. Do any of you experience this? It would be purely visual ASMR.

Sound most definitely, when I was 10 or 11, I used to listen to world famous plays translated to my language, and there was this special play that had footstep sounds and clock ticking from time to time, and I was infatuated by it! I love whispering sounds as well the calm me down a lot, but when I told this to my brother back then, he made fun of me, I didn't know this was actually a thing till now from this video ^^ I also love the sound of people talking in large areas and coffee shops, the hustle and bustle. Also the sound of serving beverages in coffee shops. That's really beautiful, I think people who likes art appreciate it in it's every form, even in everyday sounds.

+Autumn Lortie So, For me, cutting them up is an act of meditation mingled with blissful sounds and visuals. Most of my art is a practice in non-attachment and so cutting them up is actually very liberating and has a deep sense of freedom and peace. I consider these doodles as a practice of control, coordination, composition and above all, to practice being a "Creative Problem Solver." For people to use art as a safe expression to overcome, figure out new ways to look at problems, they can take this skill and apply it to other areas of their life. This is what I do for myself and if others can learn this from my sharing of these techniques then we are one step closer to being a positive change in our world community.

It's called: How to draw the impossible triangle. There were only links to Facebook. It's one of your videos.

I'm not a hater, this is just a question, but why were you whispering?I love the doodle you drew but..... why did you cut it up? Once again I love the doodle. :)

I don't find any disrespect in your question, in fact, I'm glad you asked it. There are people out there wondering the same things, but they don't usually ask me with the kind tone that you have, Thank you for that. All ASMR videos are about creating trigger sounds or visuals that stimulate responses of well being, bliss, relaxation and a host of other joyful expressions. Only a small percentage of people are triggered by these sounds and visuals. Whispering is one of these triggers sounds. I cut up my work. Mostly to create interesting sounds and visuals and because all of my artwork is a meditative practice of non-attachment.. Thank you for asking.

I still come back to this video now and then, it was my first realisation that 'ASMR' is a thing. came here for the doodles, left with the understanding of my reactions to things

Several people asked why I whisper. that's a good question. Many people find whispering very calming. Same with the sounds of drawing. I made this video for people who enjoy these types of soft sounds. Did you like the video?
