I agree with everything you said and it’s sad at that time of their trials, abuse in boys/men were seen as impossible. It’s so disheartening and I’m glad we came far from that in this day and age.
I was in my 20’s when this case happened and I remember watching both trials. I always believed both boys about their horrible abuse done by their father and not being protected by their mother and I felt and still feel that both boys should have received involuntary manslaughter which I believe is 2-4 years in prison and then received mandatory psychological therapy for all of the years of traumatic abuse done to them.

my theory on why no one cared about the gun shots: the show talked about kitty’s love for guns and how she would even shoot the birds in the backyard, so either the houses were far apart or the neighbors were just used to it
Interesting- possibly! Just feels like 8-10 shot gun rounds would garner SOME suspicion but i think people minded their business (in some good ways, some bad) a lot more back then
Damn I need to watch the show now but I would not label ‘murdering their parents’ as mistake in this case. People of abuse (esp for years) would rather commit murder than endure one more second with their molesters. Totally understandable reaction.
im against the show purely because of erik's response to it condemning the picture they painted :( also kitty was actually an active participant in some of the abuse so i dont know why shes decipted as not tbh
The takeaway my aunt, uncle and dad took from the show is that they did it for the money and lied about the abuse… I find that absolutely ridiculous so I haven’t watched the show just the documentary 🙄
So sick and tired of this case being framed as “self-defense.” It was a revenge killing, which is completely different from self-defense. Now you can think they were justified in their reasons for taking revenge, but it was definitely revenge and not “self-defense.”
People say it was a self defence killing because the menendez brothers said themselves that they truly thought their mother was going to either poison them and kill them or their dad was going to kill them
I disagree, you think this based off perspective. In Erick’s eyes it could have been a kill or be killed case, especially his dad stopping him from leaving to college which would have been his way out.
@@lexiep6745 Self-defense is only justified in immediate threats to life - someone with a weapon running towards you, someone breaking and entering with intent to cause harm to a person in the house, etc. The common misconception is that self-defense can be used as justification for non-immediate threats - someone making vague comments about wanting to do harm to you, fearing someone will eventually try to end your life, etc. Towards the time of the crime, Erick and Lyle feared for their safety, yes, but they never experienced an immediate threat to their lives and so this can never be formally considered self-defense.
