Sound design & Foley while having Chinese Tea Ceremony using Audio Technica at4053b recorded into Zoom f8n Pro.
Traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony popularized in the Tang dynasty has a long history and culture that ties to its spiritual and nourishing elements.
Many credit Shen Nong as the first person to discover the effects of tea and spread the tea culture.
There are many forms of Chinese tea ceremony. Here, I am practicing what my grandma has taught me and referred to it as Lao Ren Cha 老人茶 (old person's tea). It is now more commonly referred to as Gong Fu Tea.
For me, there's always a certain calmness and enjoyment in brewing Lao Ren Cha. The process lets the tea brew to its fullness and allows the full potential of tea tasting 品茶.
Different type of tea have different brewing process. Here, I am brewing Alishan tea, which is a type of Oolong tea, from Taiwan.
Filmed on Panasonic GH5s with Canon FD 50mm f1.2, Canon FD 24mm f2.8

Wasted a lot of water

Please read my reply to this type of comment. This is to also wash the teapot, it is a bit less than a cup. This way conserves more water than dishwashers or even hand washing.

It's not wasting if it's being used for a purpose. It's being used to clean, and to release the tannins in the first "rinse" of the leaves. An extra 2 seconds of a shower would consume far more water than this.

I didn’t like that the shots were cut so quickly, when the cups were being emptied and filled it should include a small pause between cups. This did not trigger an asmr response for me, this video should have lasted longer imo. Take advantage of the time it takes to actually make the tea, it would make it more calming and you’d buy my trust to slip into it ❤

curious to ask as to reasoning to why people wash the first brew? 1. to wash the tea leaves (but some say that it is cause it was dirty) and was deem abit wasteful for the first taste. as some of the first brew is really nice too. if you could share some opinions, as im keen on learning the thoughts of everyone
@PaprTape
@PaprTape 6 месяцев назад
I learned it from my grandma. She told me to dump the first brew as a way to wash the tea leaves. It's kind of like how we rinse our rice. People also do it to open up the taste of the leaves. Of course you don't have to do it this way, but I find that after I quickly rinse the tea leaves during the first brew, by not sipping in the water for too long, it helps bring the taste of the second brew. Some seems to comment on how it is wasteful to keep dumping water. But keep in mind these tea pots are pretty small and some tea leaves might still have some dirt. Again it's not a hard rule and you can certainly drink the first brew if you'd like.

Great video! I have a question though, where does all the spilled water go?
@PaprTape
@PaprTape 3 дня назад
Thank you for watching. There's a tray underneath to catch the left over water, which is roughly 4 cups capacity. I typically find that I have 2 cups of leftover water from my drinking sessions. A pipe drain can also be added to the tray for long drinking sessions that allows more drainage to leftover water, for example at a commercial tea house.

What kind of tea is this? Why it’s colour less?
@PaprTape
@PaprTape 4 месяца назад
It's Alishan tea, what they called high mountain tea in Taiwan. It is a type of oolong tea that is from Ali Shan mountain in Taiwan. Around 1:56 mark it is the second brew where the color is more yellow. The first brew is to wash the tea so it didn't sit long enough to absorb the tea color.

"茶道(sadou)" is a Japanese word, right? We are both countries that use Chinese characters, but it's not good. Isn't it "茶芸" in China? China is okay be pride ! Do not do the same thing as Korea! I love Chinese culture!
@PaprTape
@PaprTape 2 месяца назад
茶道 is also used in Chinese. The Chinese and the Japanese means the same thing. 茶芸 means tea art, 茶道 is loosely translates to tea ceremony. If we want to be specific we can say 中式茶道 Chinese tea ceremony or 日式茶道 Japanese tea ceremony. Tea ceremony, 茶道, isn't tied specifically to a nation, but literally means the way of the tea.

So, it's about wasting water...
@PaprTape
@PaprTape 10 месяцев назад
The tea pot is really small, total water dumped is a little less than a cup.
@PaprTape
@PaprTape 10 месяцев назад
Moreover, not only does it keep the teapot warm before serving, this is also how traditionally people wash their teapots. The water being used is less than a dish washer and even more water conservative than hand washing. 🙂

Какая глупость, налить в посуду воду, чтобы чайник стоял в воде. А потом полнять жиот чайник, с которого будет капать вода. Мы без глупости завариваем хороший чай. У меня нет времени на глупые вещи
@PaprTape
@PaprTape 9 месяцев назад
It is tradition, before all the technology was invented. It is not the most efficient way, but it is a meditative way. The brewing process helps make the tea taste better, when you have quality tea leaves. It similar to how some people go through rigorous process for brewing coffee. If you have a chance you should try. It helps clear the mind and have a moment of peace in our busy lives.
