I think you should do more like this. It would be pretty cool to put a lug sole on some of the sneaker and athletic shoes you tear apart. You have one of so many shoes just laying around.

My high school has us do cap stone projects, and i chose to make my own boots. I designed them completely from scratch all the way down to the lasts. Id say for a first attempt they turned out pretty good. The toe box turned out to be slightly too wide, but other than that there pretty cool. Thanks for the inspiration!

That's some solid amateur cobbling! You said exactly the two things I was thinking about, which was no shank and too much glue. Let the stitches do their share of the work. This is exactly the kind of stuff I've been starting to do on my own as well. It's so satisfying. I'd love to see you do more!

they already have one dummy. This is the wedge sole version. That is the whole point. People wanted a wedge sole version of the iron ranger.

Ive been thinking about doing some personal cobbling, so this video was definitely interesting to me. Yes, we have some great channels that professional cobblers have, but seeing a rookie do this was helpful

Right on! I'm working on my second pair of boots for my wife and at the longest stage of sewing the midsole and the welt together. I went with a Vibram 1757. I know it's not the most durable sole but at the frequency they'll be worn I think it'll be a great combo and they are WAY lighter than the 132 that was on there.

Yesterday I used my 10” bench grinder, sanded my NOS Teva sandals sole to match my foot shape. The sandals were to long for my feet. Turned out pretty good. Your boots turned out great. You should of added the triple ribbed shank and changed out the poron sole for a leather one.

@@Trami- I own a pair of Wolverine 1000 mile boots in rust chromexcel with the leather sole. I watched a video by Nicks Handmade boots where they deconstructed and remade the 1000 mile original with their construction and saw that the materials used were not the greatest of all time, which is pretty unfortunate. Still great boots, and I love mine to death.

Looks great. It would be interesting to see how it would turn out if you would have just sanded off the tread on the crepe soles and use them as a cushioned midsole and add the lug on the thread-less "midsole"

You didn't use too much cement. I usually put two coats on leather because it will absorb much of the first coat. Just remember with contact cement that most important part is applying pressure. All the heat is doing is helping to dry it out as the solvents evaporate. Pressure is what makes cement adhere, hence the hammering and presses.

I had my moc toes resoled with Vibram sierra tread. The cobbler used a foam midsole similar to the original sole, then glued the vibram sole to it. They look great, just as comfortable as ever and will last a very long time.

Full disclosure … I’ve never cobbled any, but hopefully will someday. I have watched maybe a few dozen videos the pro’s put on Utube. I gotta say though … this was the most entertaining, by far. Watching you resole your boots … definitely gave me a boost of confidence, that it’s doable, without all the fancy equipment. Good stuff … 👍🏼

You did a better job resoling those boots than the actual cobbler I gave my boots to. I gave them a brand new pair of Iron Rangers and asked for lug soles. They removed the brand soles and replaced them with the identical type soles it already had and still charged me 135 bucks. Shoe Hospital in Houston

Good job! You're right. thin, even layers of glue allways bond stronger! ;) And if you soak your sole leather the attachment, cutting, pre punching and sewing will be a whole lot easier! What you do is apply one layer of glue, let it dry, soak in lukewarm water for 10-15 min., wrap it in newspaper for bit, or just carefully dry it and then apply the second coat of glue. or if you have a bit softer leather you could just put some water on the grain side

Wish I could see a cut Corcoran 1500 Jump boots. When I was in the army, those were the most comfy boots I ever had. But as a heavy guy now, they just don't have the cushion. For everything above the sole of my foot, they are still the most comfortable I've ever worn.
