Make sure to check out my latest community post for a chance to "participate" in a future video! Sorry for the many cuts in this video, there were so many interruptions T.T Brief Timestamps 02:04 requests I could not fulfill 06:31 mystery/crime 16:01 other 28:15 fantasy Good night!
Thank you for the time and all the thought you put into this video. Great recommendations...my tbr grew above and beyond those you suggested just for me. Have a great week! ❤
26:49 For high fantasy I can recommend a series which is complete: Malazan Book of the Fallen, 10 books in total with other series as well. It’s finished and quite realistic, graphic and complex, probably the most complex and difficult high fantasy I’ve ever read. I recommend checking trigger warnings first and do some research about it, but it’s amazing!
About the mistery request, "The Castle" by Kafka could be the right book. Just keep in mind that Kafka died before finishing it so it does not have an ending (which adds a lot more mistery to it imo). Also, the mistery is in some sense the main metaphor of the book, so if you are into philosophical texts, this is definitely a great read imo.
I’m so glad to see you picked my request! I’m really excited to read the book you recommended for it as it wasn’t on my tbr yet but looks like just what I’m looking for!
Hi Lotta, love the channel! I know this is a little late, but a medical based book I thought of right away was “Stiff” by Mary Roach. It’s a nonfiction book about the history of cadavers. I read it in high school and thoroughly enjoyed it. From what I remember, it’s a quick read and very amusing.
As soon as I saw the title I got so excited!! When I’m in a reading slump, I always go back to a book I know I love. I have a whole bunch to add to my TBR list now. I’ve come across more books lately that I cannot have delivered to the US. If anyone has a recommendation for circumventing that, I’d appreciate it. Thank you so much for this video Lotta! P.s for the murder mystery request I recommend the confessions series by James Patterson. It’s from a school girl’s POV and her parents are murdered.
32:02 the way i went feral as soon as i saw the book one of my favorites in contemporary fiction, i don't read much modern stuff but ninth house and six of crows are sooo good man
I really like Watchmaker, and the sequel is very good too! Godkiller is also a great fantasy with a queer normative world. Same for The Tainted Cup (the male main character is bi and has a male love interest). It's also a mystery with interesting worldbuilding and characters so it would fit the request with the immersive world building.
I just ordered 5 of the books you recommended in this video. I’m super excited to get them next week. Do you have a suggestion for what I should read first? 1) The Final Strife 2) Cinderella is Dead 3) The Priory of the Orange Tree 4) Legends & Lattes 5) Song of Silver Flame Like Night
Definitely the final strife!!! It blew me away when I read it for the first time and has been my favorite book ever since!! Or maybe save that for last because it has the potential to make everything else a disappointment if you read it first 😅😅
Ah, I’m sorry if my original comment made it sound like I needed all the vampires and spicy. 😅 They just weren’t dealbreakers in a dark fantasy genre. I’m looking forward to that third one. (You might have written it down for me because it has a female protagonist? Which was another recommendation I requested.) I think I might read everything in this video. 🥹
For your mystery ask I would recommend “The Teacher” by Freida McFadden. It’s a little dark and more thriller/mystery but it’s the best book I’ve read of 2024 so far. Lots of twists and turns and the ending was amazing❤️ I love your content🥰
I sturggle with she who became the sun! I would love to read it, but its super slow in the beginning, and its really well written so its not the easiest read for me who's first language isnt english. Should I keep going? Does it get better?
I loved She who became the sun and the sequel, but I had a similar problem, especially with the second part. It's kind of slow at times but I'd say it's absolutely worth it! That being said, I know some people who have made their way through the entire book and only found it boring, so I guess it depends on your taste in books. It does pick up on pace after a while though!
I‘m pretty late to this, but I have a greek mythology book on my TBR called „The End Crowns All“ by Bea Fitzgerald and it sounds amazing! I can’t wait to read it! :)
The Moth has a few anthologies about those topics (short, true stories from different people). Could be interesting for anyone who wants to read something different and something emotional. In terms of Mystery (I guess they're more crime ) The books by Lars Kepler are very good psychological murder mysteries. I really like the Kate Bold books; quick reads and not too gruesome, but with quite twisty plots. Karin Slaughter and Karen Rose are also good, but a bit more on the gruesome side for some! Holly Jackson also has a few good ones! Medical books: Harvest (thriller) and Cutting for Stone (Historical fiction) Some random favourites: Six of Crows duology (Fantasy), Everyone's a Aliebn (idk), Percy Jackson series (Greek mythology, YA), Slewfoot (Horror), Inkheart trilogy (YA Fantasy), Kingdom of the Wicked trilogy (Spicy Romantasy), Sophie's world (Philosophical), Just stab me now (Cutesy, 4th wall breaking Fantasy), Invisible Life of Addie LaRue (Historical fiction/fantasy), Powerless (Spicy hunger games-esque), The Witcher series (High fantasy), The Falcons of Fire and Ice (YA historical fiction/fantasy)
Oh my goodness, thank you for the shout out! I’ll definitely be checking out your recommendations! For queer poetry Audre Lord, Adrienne Rich, Danes Smith, and Dean Atta are my favorites. For spicy queer romance Second Chances at New Port Steven, the Bright Falls trilogy from Ashley Herring Black, Love and Other Disasters by Anita Kelly, Galaxies and Oceans by N R Walker, A Lady for a Duke by Alexis Hall, and The Ladies Guide to Celestial Mechanics by Olivia Waite For Mysteries Dead Dead Girls by Nekesa Afia, and Razorblade Tears by SA Cosby. For High Fantasy with Wheel of Time vibes I would recommend Robin Hobb’s books.
Mystery/crime request: I absolutely loved I’ll Be Gone in the Dark, a true recounting of a woman’s obsession in tracking down the East Bay Rapist, someone she calls the Golden State Killer. Such a chilling read and suspenseful. The ending is amazing!
For poetry about queerness I might recommend “the little book of pride” it’s not really poetry but it’s just citations of things that have been said by queer people throughout history. So it starts with a quote from sappho and works from there to modern time. It’s not poetry perse but the way it gives a sense of continuity makes it poetic to me. The book is as the title suggests quite little
Thank you so much! I know it was kind of unfair to reference an old game that was not very mainstream to begin with… It just really stuck with me all those years. (Also, Dear Esther has a great soundtrack xD)
Gurl. Gurl you don't understand. I was the one who asked for Victorian with a splash of magic... AND YOU PULL OUT MY FAVOURITE BOOK?!?!?!? I read the whole trilogy!!! I love them! I want a pet octpus to call Katsu!!! I had a short period in wich I wanted to become a watchmaker!!! You don't understand how much I loved that book!!!
Have you read Z for Zachariah? It was one of my favourite books in high school. I think it might have been one of those books written for teenagers though.
If you are going to read circe you should be prepared for an information overdose. I loved reading it but often got lost between all the different characters and names. I would recommend that if you keep forgetting who is who to not pay too much mind to it, in the end the story comes together very well even if you don’t know exactly who everyone is again. For books about medusa I have a few things to say (sorta spoiler) A lot of books about medusa take the story and change it uhm well..a lot. I know that although the book stone blind was awesomely written I was constantly bothered by the fact that medusa wasn’t created the way she was mythology wise. Now there is no wrong or right way to write this books but if this is something that can bother you here’s a heads up.
In ten years or so, when you're in your 30s like me, you will start running out of room to keep all your books.😅 Not the fluff books, but the ones you can't bring yourself to throw away. That's the hard part lol.
