Listening to these videos at bedtime has become a game of Russian roulette. Will I drift off peacefully and undisturbed or will an unnecessarily loud and obnoxious advertisement play when the video ends and startle me out of my sleep? 😄
Fun fact: You got me into reading fantasy as a hobby after recommending the last unicorn in one of your past videos. I was so touched by the story. I hadn’t read anything but non-fiction as an adult. I moved straight into romantasy after that and have read 10 books since January and on my 11th now. It became a daily hobby. 😊
Yay!! 📚 I found you through some of your book ASMR a few years ago- love seeing a current one! This has been a great reading year for me so far and I’ve been listening to your background ASMR a lot while I read 😁
Never clicked on a video faster! I bought Demon Copperhead after your last video, and I did enjoy it. But I feel like I would've enjoyed it more if I hadn't read David Copperfield in high school. I loved David Copperfield, but Demon Copperhead has a lot of the same plot elements so I already knew what was going to happen. For instance, both stories have women named Dori (or Dora) and Agnes (or Angus), and they play the same roles in both stories. Anyway, thanks for the great video as always!
I came home from a very exhausting work day (sale at retail but a colleague was following me nonstop talking about what she's gonna eat later... For like 6 hours...) and this helps sooo much 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I am an avid reader so I LOVE your book videos. In particular because today, romance novels and 'booktok' favorites seem to dominate, and your recommendations don't fall into thay category. Nothing against those genres, just not my cup of tea! I'm a month late, but i read On Earth We Are Briefly Gorgeous when it was first published and it was a STUNNING novel. Beautiful and poignant, prose that spins us a tapestry of the authors life, really a heart wrenching read. Hope you enjoyed!
Can't believe I didn't see the notification for this (they're turned on!!). Excited to watch xx love these videos, I'm still learning about popular adult books and love your recommendations xx
This is exactly the video I needed from your channel. I was just thinking the other day that I missed your book talks and triggers. I hope you do many more of these because they are the most relaxing thing to me. Great work, Sarah!
My first book in Spanish was "Alicia en el país de la televisión" by Eva Piquer. I went to a Spanish language high school back home in Bulgaria and we had a spoken Spanish class. One of the things we would do was read a Spanish book and then talk about it in front of the class. This was the first book that was given to me.
I just gave Watership Down as a gift... twice! I bought it on Amazon, apparently forgot I had ordered it... and then ordered it again. So I had to find a second kid to give it to. I hope they both like it.
The Creative Act was so inspiring beyond my artistic practice. I started to apply the principles to my everyday life and it has opened up my mind and heart a ton. Great way to meditate on the self and community building with how we can keep imagination alive for building better futures for ourselves and each other
Thanx for making these videos, don't ever stop making em, ive been watching your videos for months now , i don't know what it did my brain ... Everytime I see your face i feel relaxed and sleepy , you're the reason I've been sleeping soo well for the last few months ❤❤
I love everything about this! Have ordered one of the books already. Thank you for everything! This is so relaxing and comforting. With love from the UK! ❤✨️
I LOVED this video. Mouth sounds, tongue clicking, and talking on an inhale are all anti-triggers for me, and they're scattered throughout so many ASMR videos. I understand lots of people like those things and that's why so many ASMR artists do them in their videos, but it's always an absolute delight when I can find a video without them! Your voice is PERFECT as always, and as always it's interesting to hear about what you're reading! Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Please read a book to us sometime! Maybe something light like a children's book or something :) You have such a soothing voice and it often helps me sleep! Thanks for your sweet reply earlier. Hugs back! 🫂🤗
I was travelling a couple weeks ago and I visited a library that was having a book sale. One of the first books I saw was The Poisonwood Bible, and I immediately thought of you. I read the synopsis and was blown away. I immediately bought it. It's sitting on my shelf now, and I'm so excited to read it.
Sarah I’ve been very depressed and anxious lately and your asmr has been helping me get through this tuff time in my life thanks for making the best asmr!
On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous is stunning! His writing is so beautiful, especially since he is first and foremost a poet. You should read Night Sky with Exit Wounds if you like poetry! Blew me away. I also LOVED Demon Copperhead. Such a great book! Thanks for another great bookish video- they’re some of my favorites of yours! 😊
For young adult books to read in Spanish I can definetly recommend anything Alice Oseman! I’m German and I read them in English, and it was totally uncomplicated. My favourite book of hers is “I Was Born For This”, but I also loved “Loveless”. ;)
Is there anything better than opening RU-vid and seeing a new Sarah Lavender book video! And best of all, Watership Down was my favourite book as a child (the animated film traumatised me too) and Sarah reads my favourite line from the book! Side note, Sarah I often fall asleep with your Book ASMR playlist on shuffle, but your last few aren't on there...I'd be so happy if you put all the recent ones on there so I can sleep even better :) and thank you for your amazing book content.
Loved the video!! (As always 🤗) One YA recommendation in Spanish (they originally written in English by the way) would be any of the books from the Author “Katie Hopkins” they are short and quite easy to read ☺️ and also most of them are about coming of age too!
I always absolutely love your book ASMR videos. I mean I love all of your videos but the book ones are always my favorite. 💙💙 I also really loved all the book gripping. I’ve found it’s a huge tingle trigger for me.
hey sarah! as a spanish girl that has been learning english her whole life, reading in english has helped me so so so much to gain so much vocabulary, learn how to use grammar in a regular life context and just to become richer in that language. at the beginning of my reading (in english) journey I had the same problem as you of missing a lot of the story and reading super slow. i LOVE reading, but those two aspects made me get into so many reading slumps and i hated it so much. but, if you need some advice, i would start reading books in spanish that you have already read in english and that you know you like. this way, you know how the story goes and it will be easier for you to follow the story and know what some of the "weird" words mean. great video as always and hope this helps!!
that's a great idea! I read the first harry potter book but it was a bit difficult because a lot of it was Spain spanish haha, but I should give another book I've read a try! reading in spanish has helped me soooo much thank you Natalia!! 💖
I love your book series! I love thr continuity and how you mention some books on your tbr that you then follow up with in the next video, or where you like the audio book so next time you show us the physical copy. I don't mind long gaps in the series when you keep the continuity like that.
I found Watership Down outside someone's house the other day,it was in a great condition and they were giving away books, free to take,so I am also excited to read it,same as you 👏 The young adult book for you to read in Spanish I can recommend is All The Bright Places, loved it ❤
@@linaa1752 She didn't say anything wrong, no, but she left out a pretty drastic part of the story... like saying Harry Potter is about a kid who goes to a new school.
Rec: You should check out Powerless by Lauren Roberts. It's a YA fantasy romance that is really accessible in English and has been translated to Spanish. It's not mindblowing, but it's an enjoyable breezy read and might be fun to try in Español. Plus, the sequel comes out soon! Some of my other favorite YAs are: The Silence That Binds Us and The Poet X!
I recently discovered your channel and really like how you do your videos, your voice is so very calming. I also saw some of your other videos where you comment that you study Spanish, as a Spanish person whose mother tongue is Spanish I felt excitement when I first heard that. I also wanted to tell you that, from the Spanish, I've heard in your videos, you seem to be really good at Spanish (being able to read whole novels in Spanish just proves so even more). Keep it up and mucho ánimo aprendiendo :) 🩷
Demon Copperhead is in my top 5 favorite books, period! Half my family is from West Virginia. I live in Kentucky. Demon's story is the story of so many people I know.
Was pleasantly surprised to see you with A Creative Act, it has been my book of the year so far - it was such a recentering experience reading it personally
New Year’s resolution was to read at least 20 this year. I’m on 23 as of Aug! First book I read in Jan still my favorite. Tress and the Emerald Sea. By Brandon Sanderson. Light fantasy with a great female protagonist, lots of humor and the narrator is very snarky and self aware so the audiobook is really fun to listen to.
Yes to Watership Down!! I love the film, which I've been told is extremely faithful to the book ... brutal but also thoughtful and spiritual. The best way to describe it as an allegory for how society and politics are shaped by our understanding (or lack thereof) of death.
Love all of these choices. Reminded me I still have the Rubin book to read. I picked it up but haven't gone through it all. And I've got to pick up the Vuong book. Adore his poetry.
I look forward to a video where you review a novel you have written and illustrated. You are so busy, but I know you can do it if you put your mind to it.💜💜
I coincidentally just finished rereading Watership Down for the first time since I was a kid. It's definitely long, I took a long break between the first and second half, but it is really great, the second half gets so tense and exciting! Also I feel like I'm the only person on earth who didn't get on with OEWBG😭
Barbara Kingsolver is also one of my favorite authors since I read Animal Dreams in high school, and I also am fascinated by themes of poverty, etc in Appalachia (sp?). I’m really excited to tackle Demon Copperhead.
I love the Rick Rubin recommendation! His catalogue as a producer is so vast it's kind of hard to believe. In the 80's he produced for Run DMC, LL Cool J, and Slayer. Then in the early 90's he produced Wildflowers for Tom Petty which is probably my favorite Tom Petty album and one of my favorite albums of all time.
Thanks for the video, loved it so much ❤ looking forward to your next video, curious to hear your thoughts on Watership Down! Those few clips of the animation scarred me as well as a kid 😅
🤍 Bedtime reminders!!! 🤍 - Did you drink enough water today? - Did you take any vitamins, pillls, or medicine if you need to? - Are pets fed if you have them? - Did you take makeup off if you have any on, wash your face, and brush your teeth? - submit any work or assignments that need to be turned in today? - are all doors locked and windows closed? - did you text any loved ones goodnight or say ‘I love you’ if you usually do? - turn on any background sound if you listen to any to fall asleep? Remember that you are loved and that you have a purpose. You have made so many people smile, and still have so many smiles to give. keep being yourself because there’s no one else that will do it for you! take care of yourself and sleep well!!! 💟💤
I LOVEEEE Aristotle and Dante! If you liked it in Spanish, I definitely recommend reading it in English too. It’s so beautiful and one of my favorite YA books (I teach middle school English)! I’ve read it 3 times.
Wow, I was gonna recommend John Greene! I thought of reading all the comment first but didn't expect to see him mentioned at all. It has been quite a while since I read his books but when she said recommend YA, I immediately thought of him, don't know why. I really enjoyed his books.
My favourite young adult novel was 'Sisterhood of the travelling pants' by Ann Brashares. It was extremely popular so there's a good chance it was translated into Spanish. It was made into a movie too, so you could watch the movie in Spanish with subtitles perhaps? Your Spanish is so tingly and relaxing 😌 loved all the book triggers. Would you consider doing a no talking book triggers video of page turning and tapping etc? 😊
The Poisonwood Bible is amazing, i read that and The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini back to back years ago. Talk about oof with terrible history in 2 different countries but with great writing and characters. Kingsolver is a great writer and you're totally right, very good researching! Can you get Tiger Eye by Judy Blume in spanish? It's more a young adult than the others she wrote.
