Thx for the report. I have been looking for a BR wih Giants and Mag for a long time :) When the 1st Giant charges, he has to move his full movement so he ends at less than 1" from the GJ unit. So, the GJ unit cannot take the objective when it counter-charges. What a shame to see Mag going down so easily . He is supposed to be an example for his peer but Luck was not even on this game :D Nice end game debrief, thx.
It’s a good day when I can watch an IM batrep and hear some Duran Duran and The Police in the background. Nice report, and an interesting matchup for sure!
The only differences between 3D terrain and 2D terrain for the purposes of this game are aesthetics and ease/difficulty of playing around the terrain. The company actually produced official 3D terrain versions of all the terrain in this game. It can be used in-game. People also make their own 3D versions of the terrain that they’ll overlay on top of the 2D versions and then move off of the 2D version once a unit needs to traverse that terrain. The developers have, on multiple occasions, encouraged players to design their own custom pieces of terrain with their own mix of keywords or new keywords. Most players just choose to stick with the terrain described in the rules. In games that use movement trays (ASOIAF, WH: ToW, Conquest, etc.), it can make gameplay feel clunky when movement trays are balancing at awkward angles on 3D pieces of terrain. I enjoy the 2D terrain. It makes gameplay much smoother than using 3D terrain. A good balance that some players use is to, as I described above, lay 3D terrain on top of the 2D cardboard terrain and simply remove the 3D version when units get close enough to traverse them or engage in combat over them.
Greyjoys are my first love in ASOIAF. I’ll probably be featuring them more in the battle report rotation in this Season of the game. They’re a lot of fun since the update! I have some issues with the updates to the faction, but overall I think they’re in a good place.
Nice report, but i noticed one mistake from greyjoy player. When u was attacking mammoth with trappers, you should only have 6 dice. Sustained assault gives you highest attack die value, but you dont have additional dice from boldness and courage because you dont have full ranks, you have only highest attack dice value, but still you are on 2 ranks.
Thanks for the correction. Sadly I made numerous mistakes this game. Not my best showing, but a fun game nonetheless. I make an effort to correct mistakes with rules callout boxes, but I don’t catch them all! Thanks again for the correction!
Glad you enjoyed the format. You’re right. Lots of errors in this one for sure . It made me cringe a bit during editing to see myself making so many misplays, but sometimes we just have off-nights! 😄
Mag’s “Chieftan’s Fury” melee ability isn’t an order, so it doesn’t conflict with The Last of Their Kind. That would be pretty unfortunate if they both couldn’t proc off of Mag’s death.
