First time reader here. Thanks for the great discussion. I appreciate these chats very much!

Cersei is clearly written so that you see that she's doing dumb decisions while thinking she's the next Tywin just better and yet I sometimes see comments on ASOIAF/GoT youtube videos where people say in the books she's actually so much smarter and it gets my blood boiling 😤

I know it's been a couple years, but shout out to Alex for finally having great sound!

Jaime is, by far, my favorite character at this point of the story. Since he becomes a point of view we get to see a very different part of him, and it turns out he's quite a "pathetic" figure in a way because of how easily influenced the poor bloke is. He's one of those character that make you think: "Damn, if only he had better role models and better people around him..." but he had Tywin and Cercei and things happened the way they happen. I hope he ends up having a knight's ending (even if he dies). PS: I really want Sansa and the Hound to, eh, interact further... but I'm European, though, I don't mind that kind of stuff (it not any more disturbing than Dany and Drogo/Daario) XD. Really, though, there is a lot of forshadowing that they will continue with their "Beauty and the Beast" relationship (I don't think the fact that he covers her with his cloak before leaving King's Landing is just a random thing George decide to include)

❤️just discovered all of your channels. Feast has always been my favorite and I was shocked people didn’t enjoy it. I loved going to Dorne, the Iron Islands and Vale and learning how different the cultures and politics were. Cersei’s stupidity was shocking but also the reveal of just how abusive her relationship with Robert was, showed the value of POVs. The Brienne part was the weakest to me but upon rereads I’ve grown to appreciate them and Jamie’s journey to redeem some honor. I’m glad you guys grew to like it.

We also have to remember Robert Jordan wanted Wheel of Time finished whether or not he was the one to finish it or not. I'm not a WoT fan but that was Jordan's wish. I respect that. As ASOIAF fans we gotta respect GRRM's wishes. Totally agree with everything you said, GRRM doesn't owe us.

Watched this after my first read and enjoyed the discussion, especially Jimmy’s theory. The feast is actually my favorite till now.

Don't get the part where you think Jaime has always been doing what his father and sister wanted him to do. I get that he has always been doing what Cersie wanted him to do but not Tywin clearly. If he did I think his family would be in a more stable position. - Joins the Kings Guard - He was the one telling his father to call the banners for war in the first book - And when he returned his father wanted him to take his place, let go of the white cloak. He refuses and gets disowned (not really, I don't believe). - And then in the Feast, at least I thought that he was trying to fill his father's gap; until he leaves off with Brienne. (I have only read till the end of Dance)

Guys, thanks for the awesome content! I have recently started expanding into more fantasy (First Law, Wheel of Time, Kingkiller, Stormlight...) but to me GRRM is still the GOAT. I feel like his work is so deep. One really cool thing that he does is that he ties in real world mythology and makes it relevant to his characters/story (i.e. Beric and Bloodraven have massive Odin connections). If you want to go deep on this stuff check out David Lightbringer on RU-vid. His channel is asoiaf focused and analyzes this type of stuff. Can't wait for your Dance reread.

Cold preserves, I think, is a hint that Jon’s body will be kept in the ice cells at the wall which will preserve his body better than other resurrections.

There's a scene in the Show - don't remember the season/episode but I think it's the scene where Jamie and Cersei saw each other for the first time after a long time (I think there's multiple scenes like that but I'm thinking of a specific one) In that scene they're in that Kings Landing room that has a map of Westeros on the floor Cersei is standing on the "Neck" and Jamie is standing on the "Fist of the First Men" while they talk In the end of the show they abandoned that storyline but I guess his hands were technically hugging her neck when they both died

Yall's views on an author "owing" their fans future installments hit it home for me. YES!!! What they owe you is a good experience from the book that you bought, not any quasi future book that they might or might not write. And Rothfuss's answer to him not caring about DoS is brilliant lol, "if i didnt care yall would have gotten it years ago" YES!! I seriously DO NOT understand this entitlement. And i'm wondering, i dont want to get political but like, is that one of the consequences of the capitalistic age we live in? Because whenever i argued with these people it was always "he signed a contract", "its his job he should do it and not fuck around and do nothing" etc... Like, do people SERIOUSLY believe that these writers are just lazy and that's why they dont finish their series? Like cmon dude, if GRRM took a dump on a page and sold it as WoW he'd make millions overnight lol. If he cared only about the money and not about the art, him and rothfuss would have milked the shit out of those series long ago. Anyway, my little rant, great discussion yall! Really really enjoyed these, makes me really hyped for when i eventually read the books but i will be skipping the ADwD one because i dont want to know all the differences. So far from this whole discussion i really wasnt spoiled on anything that i didnt already know was different. I cannot wait to dive into these books this summer or so, since the first 4 seasons of the show are my favorite fantasy tv/movie thing we've ever gotten. Yes, better than LOTR movies for me.

While I don't like that GRRM needs so long to finish his books he was the reason that I'm now reading books. I just started reading fantasy cuz while I hope WoW will be released someday in the meantime I can read other great stories

1:23:50 I mean you say Doran should have told Aryanne avout his secret plans cuz she's a hothead and messed up his plans but she could as easily messed it up somehow if she knew about it for the same reason: she's a hothead so I don't think her knowing would have definetly changed anything. She'd just find another way to mess things up
