The talk explores how Buddhism and its egalitarian and ethical philosophy and cultural practices or institutions and Asokan missionaries shaped Kerala’s unique democratic and civilisational legacies.
About the Speaker
Dr Ajay S. Sekher
Working as an Associate Professor of English at SSUS Kalady, Kerala, and the founder-coordinator of the Centre for Buddhist Studies at the same institution. With a Ph.D. in English from M.G. University, Kottayam, his research focuses on caste and gender representation in postcolonial Indian fiction. He is a Governing Board Member of the Kerala State Encyclopaedia Institute Trivandrum. Also, a member of the Board of Studies in English at MA College Kothamangalam. He has published extensively on literature and culture in journals. His recent books include Representing the Margin: Caste and Gender in Indian Fiction and Buddhism and Kerala. Dr Sekher has taught at various institutions, including M.G. University and Government Colleges in Thrissur, Kasaragod, and other locations. In addition to his academic work, he is an accomplished photographer and painter, having exhibited his art in multiple cities across India.
