Having recently purchased the complete the Complete Illustration Art Course, I can confirm the extremely high quality (and quantity) of the lessons that are described at the end of this video. I have two Master's degrees, so believe me when I say that Charles Bernard's incredible instruction belongs in a graduate-level classroom. I feel like I'm getting a college degree in illustration for less than some universities charge for an application fee!
@@skiptothelove Well, the anatomy aspect of the course is still probably several months in my future, way off there in Part 3. (Watching these videos on RU-vid is a fun preview of things to come.) But it's been so exciting to see my ability to turn basic forms into objects improve dramatically over the course of a few days, I can hardly wait to see how much my figure drawing improves when I get to that section of the course. If the course had ended after the first dozen videos, it would have been the best online art course I've ever taken, and I would have declared my money well-spent. The fact that I've still got 250 more videos to watch is almost beyond belief.
WOW! That's alot I need to learn. I tend to draw from photo references. There's very little I can draw from memory. Human heads, bear heads fox heads as well as dog heads. When I draw the human body from memory, or any body for that matter, it's as stiff as a board. I would eventually like to not be a slave to photo reference.
The Famous Artist books are my all time favorites. I have the 3 main original physicals. I've been watching you for a long time, and as someone who also teaches you touch on all the right things. My teacher actually showed me your channel a long time ago. So when I discovered that you also taught at the FA school it made sense as to why I have always been so drawn to your teachings. I plan on finally getting the course too. I'd love to see your take/process on the figure combined with a semi rendered portrait of that figure. Wondering if you like to work larger if you are putting detail into the face of a figure. I love how Frazetta simplified his portraits on his figures yet still made them look so great. They read so well through his knowledge and use of form. A lot of my students ask me this question and I'm interested in the opinions of others on it.
Hi Cladio Glad to hear that you have some Famous Artists School Textbooks. They are among the best art instruction you can get. Good to hear that you’ve been a long time watcher of my RU-vid videos. I need all the viewers I can get. I’m also a fan of Frazetta and I’m working on a video in which I point out some things that he does that helps make his figures look so great. Yes Frazetta new how to simplify his figures and portraits which is one of those vital ingredients in great looking figures and portraits. I’ll be talking about that and some other things he does in my upcoming video about his figures in his illustrations.
Hi, I'm interested in your courses. I just have one question about the structure of your courses. Are they exercise based? Assignments? How would someone buying the course apply what's in the course for learning purposes?
Hi Aaron, The course does not provide students with assignments to be done or critiques of there art. There is however a study suggestion video that explains how students should go about studying and practicing what is being taught in the art lessons. For practice work you first begin by copying the art in the lessons. After that when you think your ready you no longer copy the art in the lessons but you then come up with your own subjects for practice work applying what you learned about. Thanks for your interest in the course.
