Wish You Were Here is an extremely underrated British film with a central performance, that I consider, to be one of the most underrated debut performances from a young, as of then, unknown actress, Emily Lloyd. I watch this film at least once a year (Bluray please!) in part for its stellar supporting cast that includes Geoffrey Hutchings, Pat Heywood along with an absolutely sinister performance from Tom Bell. Stanley Myers provides an exceptionally wonderful period soundtrack, and the film captures with ease authentic cinematic visuals in its portrait of a post war Brighton (though could be any seaside town in England) Emily Lloyd is just outstanding in this film. I recently read a newspaper interview with Emily from 2005, and like her performance in Wish You Were Here itself, I found her words to be humorous, strong willed, and tinged with sadness and melancholy.
