I feel extremely spoiled by Unity. AC3's parkour does it's job, but that's pretty much about it. Overall it feels kinda gimmicky (i. e. tree and rock climbing, scripted interior run-throughs etc.), with the core gameplay still not straying too far from previous games. Don't get me wrong, it's very good, especially compared to Ezio's trilogy and RPGs, but there's still isn't much to write home about. And it's pretty apparent in this showcase: you used pretty much everything this game offers in terms of parkour (even a horse, that was cool!), yet it still felt like you were switching between pre-made linear paths - which was the key point of early ACs game design. What I'm saying is, ever since Unity came out, we finally got the true non-linear parkour that felt natural and fun, and it was a massive leap forward, notable even nowadays
I completely understand, I actually had a hard time creating my own path. The best I could muster was switch between pre made paths at times. I remember playing the mission where you save Benjamin franklin in Paris (AC Rogue). And the old parkour system felt so weird in a city designed for fluid freeform movement. Goes to show how Ubisoft peaked their creative abilities in movement with Unity and became too scared/careful to do it again. Edit: Unity really freakin spoiled all of us, gives creative freedom parkour up, parkour down, and even free form tricks for staying on a horizontal level
