Personally, Edward felt so human in this part. I really love the character development he receives throughout the course of this game, and I see no shame in saying he's my favorite assassin I LOVE EDWARD
but he didnt quite understand the meaning of nothing is true and everything is permitted like ezio ezio was the one who finally broke those words into a beautiful understanding alas edward didnt live that long died young
@@heylinedgear3510bruh I've went on a murder spree of civilians when replaying ac2 recently, once you kill 3 civilians you desync but other then that no penalties aside from lost progress because you desynchronized heck in ac1 once you beat the game you no longer get the desync penalty from killing civilians
I do feel sorry for Edward. At this tjme, he finally sees all that he did wrong. When he finally helped the Assassins achieve their goal along with his, he finds out his wife died while he was gone and now has a daughter. He retires from the Creed and decides to care for his family only to have a son and a grandson who will sworn eachother enemies. All he wanted was to have a happier future for him and his family.
Gigi Ramon Because she is more close to her mother, Caroline. While Edward was out at the West Indies, Caroline raised Jennifer all by herself. It is also implied that while Jennifer knows and acknowledges Edward as his father, she may still be bitter at Edward for not being there for her and Caroline
Ezio wasn't formally inducted as an Assassin until very late in the game either, in the clocktower in Venice along with all the people you met throughout the game. It is seriously stupid that people complain about not technically being an assassin for the majority of the game. Nothing is true, Everything is permitted.
There are huge differences. Ezio had a proper training with Mario, Edward can use the hidden blades and climb shit without any sort of training, he just knows, which in plot terms is just stupid. Ezio is actually killing templars during the game while Edward only fights them if he has too (in fact the assassin missions are optional). And in the end Ezio actually BECAME an Assassin, while Edward just decided to collaborate. I admit it's interesting because it gives a chance for development in a sequel but it's still a downside for the game
eroicocodardo Edward being extremely fucking skilled even when the game starts is just ridiculous. I think Ubisoft was too lazy to make a decent character improvement that should happen throughout the game.
Edward realized that his personal greed was not worth it. At the end he had everything he wanted, but nothing he needed. His greed blinded him from family and friends.
To add to the tragedy of it all, his greed grew from his inability to provide for his wife, who abandoned her wealthy background to marry his poor ass, to put it bluntly. He just wanted the good life for them, even though she was happy with what they had, and after leaving behind the person he wanted that fortune for in the first place, he had everything he ever wanted but nobody left to share it with. Even though, when it all began, none if it was meant for himself.
Personal I love Edward as a character. To me he represents the true reason one joins the brotherhood. He gains adventure, wealth, women, and yet still feels empty inside as he sees all that he's wrought. He finds himself alone in the end but instead of giving up he rises again and joins a cause worth fighting for because he is tired of not making a difference. ....not to mention hes a badass pirate assassin....I mean come on lol
It's funny though in the book, Edward wasnt a womaniser at all. He loved Caroline and never slept with any women. Edward has only been with Caroline and his second Wife Tessa.
He actually became the leader of London's brotherhood of assassins and helped them in securing london until Jennifer's simp templar ordered 2 mercenaries to kill him
@@divdivassassin7076 It was Caroline giving up her life of wealth to marry into his life of poverty, barely able to provide for her, that drove his dreams of fortune to become as big as they did in the first place, as well. It all started and ended with guilt, though he lost sight of his purpose for the entire interim.
+Malek Hanifi it was not the best game. in fact it's one of the worst assassins creed games story wise Because it barely has anything to do with the assassins like the others have
Jonathan Mocke I wasn't as excited as you but I thought being a pirate was badass. I spent most of the game time plundering ships at sea and singing shanties then I did play on land.
Altair was born into the creed And was destined to stop the corruption Ezio joined the creed to get revenge but it later seemed like he was chosen or destined to join Connor joined the creed because he wanted to help his people and help the assassins stopped the templars from changing the depth of war and get the answers to why his people were killed Edward joined the creed because he finally learned that what he was doing was wrong , he was selfish and greedy and now he wants to make things right Arno confuses the hell out of me but the moral of the story is that if assassins and templars worked together, they Can make the world better Shay joined the creed but later turned heel because he believe the assassins were up to no good but honestly he is just blinded by the truth Syndicate needs no comment
FmA Troopah Do you even know why Shay went against Achilles' guild? Those precusor sites that contained the artifacts are meant to hold the world together, hence why when Shay picked up one of em a city fell along with many lives lost. Imagine if Shay allowed Achilles to keep trying to take the artifacts from the precusor sites. It might have ended the world.
ProjectUnite shay went against Achilles because of what happened when shay grabbed the artifact He believed that Achilles were gonna do that to all the artifacts if they were to grab it But Achilles nor shay knew what was going to happen when they grab the precursors They thought it was like the apple , that it was going to do no harm Achilles probably never meant for the earthquake to happen because he didn't know it would happen Shay kinda over reacted and believe this is what the assassins want so he is blind and he ended up killing his own brothers
ProjectUnite he could've told Achilles to stop the pursuit of the precursors as it will cause havoc on the locations where it resides Instead he goes bat shiit crazy and winds up stealing the book and running away He also could've thrown the book in the ocean Where did he think he would go with the book because before he was shot He was still an assassin
FmA Troopah What Shay is angry about is that the last time Achilles sent someone to retrieve a piece from that list (Haiti) it also resulted in cataclysmic destruction, but Achilles just kept sending more assassins to retrieve items from that list without bothering to mention assassins messing with these items likely caused the destruction of Haiti. If Shay had been told what happened at Haiti he could have acted more appropriately, but as it stands he had no reason to suspect that following his grandmaster's orders would result in cataclysmic destruction. It's not until the end of the game that Achilles realizes that blindly tampering with technology you don't understand (in order to get the upper hand in the templar-assassin arms race) might be a bad idea.
@VOLD GAMER i mean connor and edward suffering is quite similliar. Edward lost all his friends in his journey to find fortune while connor lost his village and bf while tried to enforced freedom for american in british and templar invasion. They both in the end of their journey got what they want, edward become rich and connor helps liberate america but lost something important in their life (friends, familly, village).
Interestingly, when you look at the unlockable outfits in AC Unity, you can see the outfits of all the previous Assassins along with descriptions like "This was the outfit worn by the Master Assassin Altair", "This was the outfit worn by the Master Assassin Ezio", or "This was the outfit worn by the Master Assassin Connor." But when you select Edward's outfit it just says "This was the outfit worn by the Assassin Edward Kenway". Meaning Edward probably didn't spend long enough time with the Brotherhood to become a Master before retiring to start his family.
He wasn't officially an Assassin for long at all. After meeting his daughter and sailing back to Wales, he tidied up some long standing loose ends, got a substantial leg injury, and remarried. This leg injury would be the reason SPOILERS He was killed by a handful of Templar hitmen in his own home, as detailed in Assassins Creed: Forsaken.
2:13 This is why I love Edward and AC:IV. The character development that we see him going trough. From a rough scoundrel to a noble and upright master assassin
Iwan Egerström Edward deserved a trilogy like Ezio, to bad his death was planned before the game even came out and what a shitty fucking death they gave him, Rip Edward Kenway one of the best character developed assassin
@@aldrichhf35 yes he did become a master assassin he quickly got the rank after he joined the British brotherhood he also became co leader of the British brotherhood alongside with miko
first impression of Edward at the beginning was the kind of guy who kicked asses first and asked names after but upon seeing the little bit towards the end of this (with Anne) it peels away the hardened exterior and shows he is a really caring guy underneath. I think i like him a little more than Connor (who was my fave before)
It wasn't until now that I fully realized what Edward is going through, and found the names for those feelings. Desiderium and Phantom Pain. Put together, these emotions are heartbreaking. I know it all too well. I love how Anne holds his hand.
I'm replaying this game currently and I even got Mayan Outfit the second Robert brought me to the Long Bay. Even my Jackdaw is complete, except for that elite fire barrel storage. My hideout, my armor holsters, pockets is all fully upgraded. My assassin's contract and naval contracts, treasure chests, all island, cave, shipwreck, all has been explored. Including that 30 animus and 46 chests all over the west indies. All of that, just the second after Robert betrayed me. Now, all is left is legendary ships, and the main story of course.
The scene with Edward and Mary lamenting at all their fallen allies and silently holding hands is probably one of the hardest hitting moments in any game for me
People often say that Edward exemplifies glory, and the search for glory. But I think Edward exemplifies redemption. This is a man who for years was a selfish killer, who stole and murdered and plundered and raided for his own personal enjoyment and gain. He was, for all intents and purposes, a bad man. A criminal who only cared for himself and no one else. And as he watched all those he had grown to call friends either die, betray or abandon him, he grew to understand what kind of man he had become. He grew to regret the course he had walked, how he had thrown away his family for this fool's errand. He doesn't join the Assassins to settle a score or to seek revenge. He joins the Assassins because he wants to be part of something bigger than himself. He wants to atone for his past misdeeds, instead of hurting others or causing grave harm to befall them for his own gain, he wants to protect others by bringing justice and retribution down on those who prey on the weak. He is a man who wants redemption, who wants to atone. And that honestly makes him one of my favorite characters ever. And this is what makes the last chapter so awesome. We see Edward broken, brought to absolute rock bottom, a man who has lost his purpose in life, who no longer has the will to live, wracked by guilt for his failures, drowning himself in the bottle. And then, we see him obtaining his redemption by joining the Assassins, and in the process finding new purpose in life. Finding a new direction, a new conviction that drives him forward. When Edward hunts down Rogers, Torres and Roberts, its no longer as a bandit, or a pirate looking for spoils. It is as a man motivated by belief. A man whose iron will is now matched with his conviction in his cause. So that even the might of the great Bartholomew Roberts can't stop him.
Edward character is one of the best development in the Ac series. Also, reading the Ac4 book, Edward wanted to be rich because his wife gave up her riches for him. Also, he's hardly a womaniser at all, compared to what you see in the trailers, the only woman Edward been with is only been with is Caroline and his second wife Tessa.
Except when you finish the game and get to sleep with all the assassin girls you want in Edward's mansion. It was funny when I first found out you could do that.
@@ovust2475 I haven't played the game in a long time so I'm not sure if I remember correctly, but I think you have to go go Edward's island (forgot the name) and then go to the mansion. There's some girls and one or two are assassins. You can directly interact with the regular women, but you have to beat the assassins in a race to get them to sleep with you. There's no sex scene or dialogue with any women, which is a shame, but you get a fade to black and then you're teleported back to the bedroom, where the girl will lie in bed looking like Edward gave her the time of her life.
Edward reminds me of Altair. Natural skill which gets to their head first, gets demoted/discouraged, start again from zero rectifying their mistakes one by one gaining wisdom with each , and building an everlasting brotherhood in their respective homes
Honestly, I gotta say that Edward's skill was more learned than natural. Sure, maybe he picks things up quickly, but he DID have a lot of training. It wasn't specifically Assassin training, but he was working on ships as a privateer long before he ever became the captain of the Jackdaw. Since engine-powered ships weren't a thing yet, he had to learn to climb ropes and mast to work the sails, and to keep his balance on the deck of a ship under cannon fire. And he did this for a few years before he was imprisoned on that Spanish ship with Adé.
Darby McDevitt knows exactly how to create an emotional game. Realising how many of Edward’s friends are dead is so sad. Revelations, Black Flag and now Valhalla.
When I arrived for this mission I turned got the mayan armor before starting the mission. And up to this point I had only been wearing the shark hunter outfit since I felt it fit edward more. And the transition to the armor really made this scene come together for me.
Edward becomes one of those Assassins that leads a faction group, like Ezio's Uncle who leads an army of Mercinaries, La Volpe leader of thieves, and Ezio's sister Claudia a madam of Courtesans, they even have that on AC Rogue where there are groups of criminals, or military units that can be lead by an Assassin.
Iron Bobcat That is something similar at first what they were planning with Connor's character for AC3 before the final project of the game, he was suppose to be an Assassin of high rank leadership in the Continental army, they could do that if they do bring the game taking place in an upcoming mid-modern war timeline.
I remember playing this when I was 12 thinking ooooh aahhh pirates, guns, swords, boats.. Can't wait to go through again and actually appreciate the story.
The thing that I love about all the Assassin's Creed games they're always lessons to be learned. Then there's all the different ideologies presented throughout the games. It really gets you to ponder about life as a whole. For a game to be able to transcend beyond j"ust a video game", Assassin's Creed is & will always be one of the best game series ever developed!
Such a beautifully tragic story. Edward and Anne having each other left, and not becoming romantically involved, but remaining friends was a nice touch. I love Edward's growth throughout this game. He got everything he wanted, yet still felt empty. He recognised his faults and actively saut to change them, understanding these things take time. He dedicated himself to something far larger than himself, and finally doing right by those he once called friends, who fell by his side. An incredible game and story. I miss when this franchise stood this strong.
As much as I love Ezio, my favorite is Edward. Edward was a selfish, egotistical bastard who learned how empty his life was and sought the creed not out of vengeance like Ezio but as a cry for help to make his life mean something beyond itself. He lusted for treasure for so long he forgot that freedom itself was treasure, and that the true fight for treasure was to join the assassins against those who sought to rob humanity of freedom
Edward character is one of the best development in the Ac series. Also, reading the Ac4 book, Edward wanted to be rich because his wife gave up her riches for him. Also, he's hardly a womaniser at all, compared to what you see in the trailers, the only woman Edward been with is only been with is Caroline and his second wife Tessa
The next AC is rumored to take place in Egypt, which I think is a terrible idea seeing as Egypt would not be a fun place to explore, i would of loved to play as a young Achilles to see how he struggled to keep out the Templar's from the colonies.
***** *Sigh* I'll admit, I didn't become as attatched to Connor as I had with Altair, and Ezio, and yeah at times I did find him boring. But I dont think he's the worst. In the beginning, he only sees the world in one way; black and white. He's really naive, and believe in alot of things that can never be, and by the end of AC3; I think he's become more wiser since his perception on how the world works has expanded to where he now sees shades of Gray, rather then just black and white.
***** Ahh, I know that this is really unlikely to happen...but I'm sorta hopping that if the French Revolution game was made?....Then it show cases the character Richard Sharpe, who becomes an assassin...and he's voiced/motion capped by Sean Bean :D. (Yeah I want a Sharpe/Assassins Creed crossover :D )
I really hope the next AC title (numbered or no) takes place in Japan or at least in Asian countries such as China, Singapore, Korea, etc. I'd like for Ubisoft to explore Shao Jun from Assassin's Creed Embers, tell her story. Heck I'd just like another female Assassin. But whatever Ubisoft does next with the AC series, I imagine it'll be good.
I don't know if anyone noticed, but there's a weird cut along @2:32, coupled with strange dialogue that doesn't seem to connect well at all. My guess is that there was a sequence where Ah Tabai was teaching Edward how to use the rope dart. This wouldn't translate in smooth gameplay however, as the jungle floor that Edward travels later in the memory provides excellent in-game tutorial for rope-dart usage. That, or the devs just didn't feel like the pacing was right by implementing that tutorial.
Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad: I became an assassin to honor my family Ezio Auditore da Firenze: I became an assassin to have revenge for my family Ratonhnhaké:ton: I became an assassin to protect my loved ones Edward Kenway: *I JUS' KILLED AN ASSASSIN AN' GOT 'IS ROBES CUZ THEY LOOKED NICE*
What makes this game really unique amongst its other titles in the series is that Edward's game is basically about him going through mid-life crisis and we witness it until almost the end, where he takes up the mantle of being an assassin.
Altair, Edward and Bayek are my favourites. Because they screwed up, they were flawed, they paid a high price for their mistakes. And they learned from it. They learned, they grew, they fought back. One way or another, everybody can relate to that :)
I reckon it's survivors' guilt in a few cases...that and it probably gives him an increasing amount of perspective. About the lives he and his friends chose, what it cost them in the end, what it cost others around them...
True (or not lmao), and it's meant to be. According to Ezio, "To say that nothing is true is to realize that the foundations of society are fragile and that we must be the shepherds of our own civilization." The foundations of society are things like religion, government, community etc. However, all these things can turn on each other if blown out of proportion or followed blindly. So we must make our own decisions. And the same applies to this belief itself. I find that pretty philosophical and poetic.
that holding hands in 10:48 to me have a lot deeper meaning "i couldnt save my friends" "hey, i couldnt save mine... Make you a deal, what say we watch over each other from this days on?" "sounds like a plan"
Is it just me, or do people who also have the PS4 version constantly feeling uncomfortable with the environment of AC4? Just imagining him wearing that thick assassins outfit in the heat and humidity of central America, while fighting and doing other menial tasks that require energy, makes me so uncomfortable. This isn't a complaint though, its honestly a compliment, they make the game feel so realistic!
yeah, i know what you mean. they should add a mechanic in-game so that if it is hot, the assassin will were loose, thin clothing, but if cold, then thick, warm clothing. oh, and i don't wanna be THAT guy, but its not central America. it is Cuba and Jamaica
The fact that this character and I have the same name always made this game special for me since I was 12 yo. We are both rebels and freedom lovers, somehow LOL. Furthermore, both of us learned that gold isn't more important that a peaceful life.
By the talked with James kidd (known as Mary later), i thought Edward was like self taught assassin, because he told James that find this ability from his youth and used it see different things from others (eagle vision) ... And later on with the progress of the game, his life rather similar to ezio.... Ezio driven by revenge yet Edward driven by desire.. although ezio was like a carefree man and forced by condition to avenged his family's injustice, still he got his uncle for guidance, different with Edward who tend to choose "greater" freedom leading him become a pirate, both ezio and Edward has a lost and lost in life, yet in time can built somewhat resolution to reach a greater purpose of life.... Damn... I lesson in our soul in gaming ... That's why I love them, AC3 of course I like, while the other I have not played it, in wealthier time perhaps or even in another life
I didn't think he actually joined properly until after the game ends, he says something about joining when he gets older and wants to settle down I thought
Black flag had the most solid gameplay of all ac games It also had an awesome story, and the only thing ruining the whole game for me was having to get the uncharted to reach 100% sync
Let’s talk about how each character became an Assassin. Altaïr worked his way up the ranks after arrogantly failing a mission. Ezio was inducted as an Assassin in Brotherhood, burning his ring finger to prove his allegiance (Even Desmond woke up from the pain). Connor became an Assassin after training with Achilles. Edward became an Assassin when he traveled to London and became part of the British Brotherhood. Shay was already an Assassin so we don’t know how he got in. Arno became an Assassin after being inducted with his prison-mate after breaking out and being introduced to the French Brotherhood. Jacob and Evie were also already part of the Brotherhood. Bayek created the Assassin’s Brotherhood. I’ll get back to you on Odyssey. Feel free to add/correct anything so I can put it here
Am I the only one who wants an Assassin's creed game where you get to select either a male or female assassin. This sounds stupid but I actually want to play as a female assassin. I know there has been one but that was for ps vita. I'd also like one set in Victorian/Tudor England. I'm probably gonna get so much hate...
raeassassin97 I just now noticed that. It hadn't occurred to me that every numbered AC title relates to a new assassin. AC1 was Altair, AC2 Ezio, AC3 Haytham/Connor, and AC4 Edward. The only exception to the rule was AC Liberation with Aveline.
well you know , that it is one of the last scene`s ? I IS an assassins in the scene in the opera house. What I meant to say was that you did not play Edward as an assassin
TheStarToursTraveler I am not quite sure if you can call Connor an assassin. I mean, he is trained by a man who was an assassin but he did not join a brotherhood and the man which you can recruit are neither. but that`s my view so.
i was pretty pissed off when edward took so damn long to join the assassins, i mean the game name should have just been " Pirates of the Caribbean:Rise of an Assassin"
this game could have been legendary and actually won the game of the year even over the last of us, but obviously tailing missions, easy melee combat, some annoying stuff like collectibles and the worst: animus missions had to bring it down a little bit, it is still in the top 5 games of 2013 for me
***** "Fully-fledged" is also a idiom (general saying) derived from the literal meaning of a bird having fully-developed adult feathers. The idiom means "fully matured" or "of full rank/status". The original comment is entirely correct.
Ah Tabai: What do you think of our creed? Edward: It's hard to say. For if nothing is true, then why believe anything? And if everything is permitted... why not chase every desire? Ah Tabai: Why indeed? Edward: It might be that this idea is only the beginning of wisdom, and not its final form. Ah Tabai: That's quite a step up from the Edward I met here many years ago.
