I think it sums up how a lot of people think about pirates today. Pirates were thieves and some were wicked men. However, they were also egalitarian, democratic, and fought for fair wages. This was revolutionary for the time and makes you wonder what could have been if they were fighting for more than wealth.
It foreshadows Edwards redemption perfectly. It’s only when he can forget about riches that he can change. That change ultimately got him what he wanted, in a way.
"You wear your convictions well. They suit you." That line is legendary. Even if he disagrees with Edwards opinion, he still respects him for fighting for his beliefs.
@@nikitahatamov4312 There is no good nor bad, just people fight for what they believe and the ideal. Villain is not the best word, rather, antagonist is the better word.
Edward character is one of the best development in the Ac series. Also, reading the Ac4 book, Edward wanted to be rich because his wife gave up her riches for him. Also, he's hardly a womaniser at all, compared to what you see in the trailers, the only woman Edward been with is only been with is Caroline and his second wife Tessa. I think anyone would agree with me, if they read the book.
@@blastergun4206 because I’m not going back now and replaying that game. As good as it is it is like 70% Ubisoft filler bs. If I play another tailing mission in a game it’ll be too soon. I did get close to the ending though when I played.
"We're celebratin my RETIREMENT!!" That is one of my all time favorite moments of Blackbeard in this game. He's just such a goober in that moment and I love it.
I’m paying a lot of attention to Edward’s little necklace and you know how much it looks like. Lowkey look his grandson Connor’s necklace they look the same. Perhaps it’s the same necklace his grandfather wore. I mean to be honest that wouldn’t be a coincidence from me since I’ve the wiki about Connor’s outfit it’s apparently a upgraded version of his grandfathers outfit Edward Kenway’s outfit.
Am so confuddled about Kenway sometimes. I love him a lot, and I feel sorry for him when he realises that there’s nobody left that he loved, but other times it’s his own fault for seeking something too badly that it blinded him to everything else
@@hlinneyefc75 If Edward got a sequel it would probably be one with both Haythem and Edward's stories, starting with Edward and ending with Haythem right before AC3.
John Marston I think you mean. They both came out roughly the same time and both remain the most iconic. Morgan is okay but he's only interesting in the last half of the game when he's dying. Just like Edward , John and his story was compelling from start to finish. And remember, without John Marston Arthur Morgan would not exist.
@@ahmedmohammad6099 his whole thing is his desire for freedom without limit, the freedom to err and make mistakes and experience it all on his own willingness and hunger for adventure for himself. He is against the Templar order because whatever their goals, they seek to control people and end free will
2:29 I just love that Edward rolls his eyes here. He’s just *so* done with Upton’s bollocks. Plus, it’s an impressive level of facial animation detail for a game that’s almost a decade old.
Edward's story was always sad as hell, but I think Bonnit's story - in the real world and game- is just as tragic. Poor bastard was a poor pirate, but the courts needed to make an example. He died crying, at the end of the rope, as everyone cried with him.
God I miss the times where we were just a badass human who was extremely good at fighting that could easily and elegantly kill templars instead of a fucking demigod with superpowers who can slash someone's throat and still not kill them, Ubisoft ruined everything that I loved the most about AC series
Ah yes, pressing the same two buttons and never dying in the older assassins creed games was definitely more challenging lmao. Bruh the only way you could die in the older assassin’s creed games is if you died to falling damage. It didn’t even give you the option to make the difficulty harder, what the fuck are you on about? Lol
@@blacksky5110, yeah unity was still not challenging, like I said there wasn’t even an option to change the difficulty in the game. So you’re just forced to play on normal which sucks. The only thing challenging about that game was all the bugs you had to encounter.
@MisterJakeC I guess developers didn't that he was going to become Fan Favorite rivaling Ezio. They can still change his death by giving us a sequel with Half Story based on Edward as Father and Assassin and then the other Half as Haythem growing up with Templar ideology and his revenge with Birch.
11:38 This moment always makes me laugh. Edward is just trying to sail his pirate boat but his consciousness manifests itself and proceeds to nag him into oblivion.
Edward Kenway is my all time favorite assassin’s creed character and Matt Ryan will always be Edward Kenway to me my favorite scene is when Torrez asks him what his true name is and he says and I quote “it’s uh captain piss off” Edward is a prime example of a scoundrel turned humble but tragic hero like he said to El Tiburon “you helped make a soldier out of scoundrel” he has suffered the most but came out a changed man but still quite a smart ass I love this guy
@@pocketsupport5938 Ughh no. Well the modern day ones at least. And Christopher Gist is fucking awful. Oh and Shay's defection is poorly handled. Seriously he has poor communication skills. All of that would have been gone if he just calm down and explain it and even bring Achilles to another temple to prove his point.
@@W0LV1E45 I agree about Shay, but Gist? I respectfully disagree. The man had literally: -Paid some crew for Shay. -Been very honest and gentle person. -Been the best partner when Shay had about some sailing missions. -Not to mention when Haytham told Gist to stay on the Morrigan in the final mission, you can feel his loyalty in his reply to that.
AC 4 might have been the last AC game that I truly enjoyed playing. There is just something amazing about being able to sail the open seas and plunder your way through the Atlantic. Edward is by far my favourite Kenway family member and might be my favourite AC character ever.
@@odrysiann indeed, went to check it and apparently it's up for debate. Some even consider the gulf of Mexico part of the ocean, others consider Cuba as its border, just like the Bay of Biscay. But apparently you and assassin's Creed use the former, since Rogue's map includes islands in the north Atlantic, and if you are defining official borders then the North Atlantic wouldn't have islands TL;DR: went to check, you are correct since your argument aligns with AC logic
Man I dont know what edward was talking bout "riches and reputition", by that point in the game I spent all my money on suits and weapons.I was broke as hell.😂
Black Flag was the most tragic AC for me. Something about building a attachment to these characters, Edward's friends, slowly losing them one by one until Edward realizes what he had was worth more than any weight of gold
I remember doing a mission in syndicate where they mentioned Edward and that his son sold all the stuff to the templars a d we had to find some old assasin thing under his house
Well, it became an “Assassin” game near the end. The Pirates Philosophy became the Assassin’s Philosophy. Edward had to develop into an assassin. Before that, he and Roberts were wild cards. The Newer games feel as if they hardly have anything to do with Assassins or Templars, and their simple ideological differences. The storytelling, consequently got weaker because the premise was forgotten.
The first impression of Edward that made me love him immediately was “shut your fucking gob before I fill it with shot you hear me?” Made me die laughing 😂😂😂
He probably wasn't a pirate long enough for scurvy to set in. & also, he was a privateer before he turned against the crown, which meant that he knew better than most pirates out there about keeping his teeth healthy.
I mean those are fair assumptions but the truth is simpler, I think. It'd be fucking gross to play as someone with teeth and hygiene accurate to the time period
I went into this, fully intending to watch no more than the first minute, and I ended up watching the whole thing. I had forgotten how much I love this game.
@@loucar1067 But Haytham forces Templar beliefs on Connor. Which Connor said to him (Its not right to force allegiance whether the british crown or templar cross) before Connor breaks the allegiance with both Haytham and Washington.
No. Edward always taught Haytham to follow his own path. See things in different ways. Haytham decided to stay as a Templar, because he believed he was on the right path. I think Edward would be proud because Haytham thought in his own way.
I love how Edward turns from a greedy pirate who doesn't take the world seriously to becoming a noble assassin that snaps and watches his friends die in a world that's becoming more civilized and the age of pirates ended
Same. He watched his friends either die, go insane, change allegiances. Not to mention his greed. But eventually he gets a change of heart and begins to set things right. The part in the end when he remembers all his friends is the saddest part for me.
Edward and Ezio are my favourite assassins creed characters then Altair and Connor .. but yeah I had so much fun playing blackflag I feel like the assassins creed games haven’t been hitting since this one
Templars: Our beliefs and moral high ground are sky high. You can’t steal our pride. Edward: Keep it, for I’m more than comfortable down here at sea level.
He’s supposed to have a dashing a rogueish look to him so he has to be reasonably handsome and good looking. Most of the characters look the same way. Welcome to the world of fiction.
He killed one of the best master assassin, he wiped out all the members of west indies templar, he cleared spanish galleon alone, he was in the middle of battle between british and spanish, he also sneak out to the assassin hide-out, and he joined the assassin in order to make amends of all calamity he made
