I'm not even an AC fan, but COME ON this story translates into a film so easily, HOWWWW do you fuck this up?

My problem with this, not enough time spent in the past. That’s Assassin’s Creed.

What is the obsession with translating games specifically to movies? In my opinion, games are better off being translated to SHOWS, not movies - Movies are just too short for something like that

I actually really enjoyed this movie. I've playing most of the Assassins Creed games so I basically already knew the premise of the story going into it. But I didn't ever feel bored in the movie.

Videogames translate perfectly into movies... they simply don't care to do it well.

I think the better way to adapt Assassin’s Creed to the screen would’ve been as a television series, not a movie.

I feel like The Matrix should have been a blueprint for how long to spend in reality and how long to spend in the animus. It also showed that you can have the person sitting in a chair in real life and the action in the matrix/animus is still interesting. You don't need them miming that shit, it just looks stupid and fake. It breaks the fourth wall in a bad way. It reminds you that you're watching actors. So, I guess if you want to watch a good Assassin's Creed movie then go watch The Matrix.

I don't know about the rest of you but I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. It follows closely to the the lore of the games and has some great performances by the cast. The action scenes are a little off putting since it was done in that annoying shaking cam but that's my only complaint. I personally rate this movie 8/10.

Just finished watching this movie, and as someone who is very nitpicky and critical when it comes to movies and TV, I am genuinly surprised this film was received as badly as it was. In fact, I actually found myself enjoying the present day plot more than the past. A quite unique approach to the usual AC stuff.

A Portal movie directed by Denis Villeneuve will save us!

As a fan of Jeremy Jahns, I strongly recommend not letting his views and opinions dictate whether you like a movie or not. I just got back from seeing AC and I found it enjoyable. The present day scenes didn't bother me because it's essential to the storyline. Go in to the movie with an open mind.

All the movie needed to do was: -STAY IN THE PAST for like 65% of the movie - The Present day story is the element that keeps all AC games in continuity. Without the modern day story, the AC saga would be like Final Fantasy -Focus on building up the universe for movie goers and the central characters - AC I did that by establishing Desmond, Abstergo, Assassin Brotherhood, Animus, etc. -Don't change the lore of the games - Ex. Agular cuts off his ring finger (in 1492) in the beginning of the movie. However, AC Revelations established that Altair fixed it to where the ring finger didn't need to be cut to access the Hidden Blade, 200 YEARS PRIOR TO AGULAR. Also that scene literally takes place during the 30 years seen in AC II. Ezio Auditore didn't even cut of his finger when he was accepted... right around the same time as Agular.

I thought it was ok. Not breath taking. They could've done a lot better and did character development with his ancestor. There was non for him and the girl assassin at all. That's why I wasn't too torn up when they died, cause we didn't fucking know them.

The editing gave me a headache, that's quite the accomplishment.

This film does not deserve half of the dislike it is receiving from critics. Everyone has the right to there opinion, but this film is absolutely worth seeing for yourself. I guarantee, you'll at least say while leaving the theater, "That was better than I expected."

I actually really liked this one, yes i would've loved to see more of the actual assassin but as a whole i enjoyed the movie. It has many flaws but as a starting point i think it came out pretty good

The closest thing to a video game to movie adaptation is the warehouse scene in BvS, that felt like an action scene right out of Arkham Knight.

I don't understand the hate in this movie. Played the games up to assassins creed 4 even the spin offs like bloodlines and Altair chronicles and just recently picked up unity rouge syndicate for dirt cheap. Loved every game except revelations that one was okay but the weakest in the main series. As for the movie, I had no expectations at all. I walked in blind, and walked out satisfied. The action was awesome little shaky here and there but as a whole it was great the overall scale was just incredible the acting was on par with what the movie was trying to be. It wasn't looking for Grammy awards it was meant to be a fun movie for fans. They stayed true to the source material with some changes which I agreed but didn't agree with too. But overall I enjoyed the movie, I really did and even my girlfriend enjoyed it without ever playing a second of any of the games. Is it a Grammy movie? No absolutely not but it was an enjoyable action movie and a nice little nod to the gaming community, would I say it saved movie adaptations of video games? No I wouldn't but was it maybe the one ruby in a coal mine? Yes I would

I enjoyed the movie and I think it was amazing. Sure they didn't go to the past a lot but they did make a pretty good start middle and end to it. Be the ending when he realizes that he is an assassin and decides to keep the apple of eden safe that was amazing! Just my opinion don't hate on me because your favorite utuber told you it sucks! There was something that bugged me from the movie. First of all, Aguilar should not have had his ring finger cut off, but rather brand because Altair invented the new hidden blade that did not require the finger to be amputated. Also we see that Ezio branded his ring finger around the same point in time. mic drop. Flies away

Finally gotten around to watching it and I'm confused by the positive comments. The movie was terrible, it should have been set entirely in the past and they never really set any stakes. ALSO CLIFFHANGERS.

Just saw the movie, and it wasn't great but it wasn't horrible. maybe it would have helped if the FIVE YEAR OLD sitting in front of me would have stopped standing up and saying what's on the screen every twenty minutes, or the guy to the right of me would stop coughing and rubbing his hands the entire time, or the women in between the two, a few rows down would stop checking their phone!

It's so easy to hate on this movie. I think they did a good job portraying the games story and gameplay in the movie in the time slot allotted for movies. There is too much story in the games to show off in one movie. They have to introduce the premise and also set up a sequel. The were never gonna make just the one movie with the massive story that is in Assassin's creed. If this is not your taste that's grand. But objectively this movie is good and if you like the games it's a very well done.

Thank you Ubisoft, for keeping true to what Assassin's Creed is supposed to be, and not listen to people like that who only care about action sequence of assassins moving around and killing dudes at random. The interesting part about Assassin's Creed is the duality of past vs present. Why are ACs 1 to Revelation praised by the fan? Because after that the present was drop. Because the general public just wants to play games that require minimal brain activity. Desmond's story is what makes Ezio's or Altair's story meaningful. The assassins from the past are only here to provide support to the actual main character, who lives in the present. The entire plot revolves around events that happen in the present, how could the movie spend all its time in the past, and still be revelant? Sure the movie is not perfect. It does not explain the context of Assassins vs Templars well enough, if you've never played the game, I doubt you'll care about the Apple (or even understand what it is), the Templars and Assassins are somewhat simplified, and the secondary characters are not really given any depth. But still, the story IS the one from the original AC, with some adjustments obviously, but respects the original material, and is true to what the series was about. Anybody can make a story of super ninjas fighting a world dominating organization in the past. It takes far more creativity to link it to the present, and invent an entire, credible, world about it, that can be used in an infinite number of different stories, in different time periods. For that being true to that idea alone, the movie is great. If you expect it to be like the newer games (understand without true meaning, and action for the sake of action), you'll be disappointed. But you don't deserve to call yourself a fan of the series. If you expect a movie true to the original philosophy of the series, then you'll most likely enjoy yourself.

Jeremy you're my go-to reviewer most of the time but I feel inclined to disagree on this one; I honestly don't get the hate. There were a few flaws, but honestly I found it 10x more interesting than the first game. The action was superb, the CGI was amazing, the costumes and setting were done very well, and the bleeding effect actually made sense here. When you say that he "only goes into the animus 3 times" makes it sound like very little time at all, but it takes up a very large portion of this film's runtime, and the present day stuff was still really cool to me (I always enjoyed the present day stuff in the games because that's what actually matters to the plot where the stakes are high as opposed to the past where everything is already laid out for you). I loved how everyone in the past spoke Spanish 100% of the time, giving it that immersive sense of realism that the games could break sometimes because they switch between English and whatever the native tongue is. I was constantly in awe of all the fighting and the fast moving parkour and knife throwing because it was actually awesome. They nailed how it felt in the games to be frantically sprinting away from an army of guards and made it even cooler. I don't think it's fair to say it's a movie that "you probably shouldn't see" as you said, but more of a film that a bunch of people are disliking, but Assassin's Creed has been the victim of bandwagon hate for so long that it's not fair to tell someone that they're not going to like it before they even see it. It's a good movie, and I hope not too many people are discouraged from seeing it because of this.

I don't get it. I thought the movie was great. Especially the part with the young prince being found and the slow mo on the Assassins. Epic

Man, there was a glimmer of hope when I heard they were making this with Fassbender. Then I saw the thumbnail. It's a shame, as Jeremy said the source material is great, Assassins Creed has a brilliant and dare I say original idea. Of course Hollywood, even after 25 years of trying, still haven't made a single good video game movie. And sad thing is that now they don't have an excuse. A lot of games now days have a brilliant narrative.

Could we just have a AC film trilogy on Ezio, I bet most of the audience would rather pay to see a Live Action Film Series of Ezio's life. 1st Film = AC 2 (maybe have him study Altair aswell while going through the films) 2nd Film = Brotherhood 3rd Film = Revelations just skip out all the Desmond shit

I was really excited to see this movie with one of my friends who had played the game. I ended up falling asleep and getting him upset but what am I'm supposed to do when this movie makes no sense!

I don't understand why people are so surprised this move was shit. people are too gullible when they say A-list actors and cool trailers but completely ignore the fact that the directors only real move was 2016s Macbeth.

I just saw the thumbnail for this video and said, "Aw, fuck", because I knew it meant this movie ended up sucking. I haven't watched the review yet, because I try not to watch Jeremy's reviews if I haven't seen the movie yet. I was just really hoping Assassin's Creed broke the streak of great video games and their storylines made into horrible movies. Plus, I think Michael Fassbender's a great actor.

I saw this and thought it wasn't bad. It entertained me somewhat.

This makes me afraid that The Last of Us movie will also bomb... But Neil Druckmann (the game director) also writes the screenplay for that movie, so I still have my hopes up for that one. Mortal Kombat... It has a chance to become a great videogame-based movie. The first MK movie was great for its time, and the Legacy shorts are good as well. Not perfect though!

When it comes to Movies adapted from Video Games/Books(Comics)/Anime this is how I judge them. *Especially* if/when I know the Source Material: If I have to give context to *anything* that's going on to whomever is watching it with me, then the Movie is shit. The one job the Movie has is not even be good, but at the very least explain what is happening. So if I'm watching The Maze Runner with my Mom and I need to explain who in the fuck W.I.C.K.E.D. are and what the shit they want *while they're explaining it*, or if I'm watching Assassin's Creed with my cousin and I have to explain how the Animus works and that what's going on in this scene is just a dream then the Movie is shit. What annoys me is that most of this stuff, certainly in the case of Assassin's Creed, is pretty easy to follow.
