I think I'll stop watching these reviews, as it's just a lot of fandom whining and hyperbole. I went in expecting The Acolyte to be terrible, to the degree I wasn't sure I'd bother checking the first episode. But I've been really surprised how much I've enjoyed it. Ep.3 was the weakest, partly because of how it relied so much on two young actors. They're not Jake Lloyd bad... but they're not exactly great. And I'm not sure they're dealing with the apparent mystery of the fire very well. We'll have to see where it actually goes. But I thought the witches were interesting - an enclave of Force users wanting nothing to do with the Jedi. I wish they'd have shown them actively resisting, however. Plus we need information on why they were particularly interested in the twins. If there's a reason, it doesn't help the narrative if we're in the dark. So yeah, some fumbles - that might work better/less poorly with more information. The first two eps were stronger. Amandla's a good lead, and her dynamic with her old master is engaging. Disney shows have often had atrocious CG and effects, but this is back to a decent standard. The twin moons of two colours is a very cool visual. Also, fantastic score across all three eps so far. Star Wars ideally always needs good music, and this really delivers. Michael Abels could do an awesome SW film score.
Disney doesn’t have any more of an idea how to explore this universe than Lucas ultimately did. They’re going to regret chucking away all the Expanded Universe stories as not canon.
jeremy, i literally have not once thought about watching the acolyte, but i just cant resist jeremy jahns content, so thank you for watching this show so we dont have to
This episode was just bad. The child actors were very one dimensional, story made no sense, and making children with the force pissed me off. There’s so much lore in Star Wars from legends that can be made really good
I have just been watching RU-vid content about Star Wars for a year or so since I cancelled my Disney+ subscription. I am an old Star Wars fan (emphasis on OLD, since I was in high school in 1977 when it started), but I have been unimpressed with the majority of recent Star Wars content. I will probably resubscribe to Disney+...eventually. Probably when InsideOut 2 gets there.
I had hoped that Ahsoka would be a return to form, and while I was watching the show, I realized that other than a few outstanding moments that I was bored. I realized that Star Wars was a toxic relationship, and I haven't been back. I didn't finish the bad batch, I never watched Andor, Tale of the Empire I heard was hit and miss, and I have no intention of rewarding company that clearly hates me. I'm so over Disney/Lucas film Star Wars that I haven't even felt the desire to watch the original six. Mainly everything that came after shit all over them.
I made it halfway through the first episode, paused it because I got frustrated and I haven’t bothered to go back and pick it up again. Considering how I watched the Return of the Jedi so much I deteriorated the cassette tape and we had to get another one, it’s so disappointing to see how far the franchise has fallen
Here is the thing. If you want to write a show where its told from the view point of people who don't like Jedi? Fine….:that would be interesting. Of course some would find them bad people. Its like telling a story from the Sith view point. I could get down with seeing that. If done correctly. Like how Joker did so well. But with how Disney has handled it? It just looks like you hate the product and fans
Also, its fine, i was never in love with anything really that really came out of the prequels. Dont understand how the force created Anakin to balance the force against palpatine's tinkering, and then just ended up going full dark side anyways. Seems like no on really knows how the force really works, so im not about to blast a minor religion and their beliefs on how the force works as they understand it as a thread... And also, as a catholic person, its insane to say that a "Holy like" organization is above reproach and they didnt do very ugly things, and then try to cover it up.... Do i need to mention pedophilia in the congregation, and then the subsequent attempts to cover it up and continue to do so even recently? I dont know. im just trying to enjoy new stories within this universe. I could feel salty that not everything ties together perfectly, and that Jedi are somehow above corruption. Considering we have seen that over and over and over again throughout the history of Star Wars, from the beginning til now. Every institution we have ever known, has had some really fucked up shit happen that they tried to do, was in service to some image they had, a means to an end, etc... im rambling now, but im just going to enjoy the shows for what they are. IMO, Rogue one was the only great Star Wars movie made. Star wars has always ever been a political drama. And no one can get me off that hill.
I was defending the show for the first two episodes cause when ever there’s a new show people like to bitch and moan.. but this episode is total trash. Just garbage.
god forbid star wars is depicted from the lens of people other than the jedi. Why should we be so unquestionably loyal to the jedi & republic? After all, the jedi's hubris is what allowed the republic to fall to Palpatine in the first place. A good narrative/world isn't binary, and isn't held down by concrete principles, it forces the viewer/reader to question the actions of the protagonists and empathize with the antagonists... It is a good thing what the episode did with the predatory take on the jedi. Because after all they are kidnapping children, coercing children to leave their families & homes (look at Qi Gon Jin's recruitment of Anakin - promising him and his mother freedom only to have Anakin separated from mom and give up his freewill as a Jedi). Of course I do agree the way the episode played out was lackluster though.
At this point star wars has become just an opinion in youtube about star wars. You influencers do the heavy lifting of watching this crap and we enjoy your take. No need to waste our times and betray your brave sacrifice :P I already wasted time watching rings of power first two episodes and it became the lowest denominator of quality. Surpassed barely by rebel moon. It s a sad time to be a fan. Gladly video game series are doing well so I can t complain on that front.
My theory is that the mysterious sith-coded character is at the center of everything. I think he's the reason the fire spread and the reason the witches are dead. Put another way, he's the reason that Osha believes Mae's fire killed everyone, and he's also the reason that Mae believes the Jedi killed their mothers and the rest of the coven. He likely found Mae, took her as his student and fed her a story about how Osha's love of the Jedi got her and the coven killed. I also believe that Mother Aniseya likely created the twins with his help. This is why she tenses up at the idea of the Jedi finding out how the twins were created. He's probably conducting the earliest versions of the experiments that eventually lead to Plagieus' work. Finally, I think that the Jedi were probably on Brendock investigating the sith-coded character. Possibly, as a disturbance in the force. I believe that somehow the Jedi's actions provoked sith-character to do all the things I stated earlier. They likely all feel responsible because they believe their actions lead to the deaths of the coven. It's not the tightest theory, but I think it works.
I watch Star Wars and read the books, I don't watch Disney Star Wars or the Disney books. To this day I saw TFA once, I saw TLJ once, and have never watch Episode 9 and never will.
Honestly when I first heard about this show I thought it was going to be set much further in the past. If this show was set 1000 years ago I could easily see the Jedi being more cult-like. All major religions have periods in history of doing awful things in service of their beliefs. If this was 1000 years ago I could totally appreciate a Jedi that steals children and kills anybody who uses the force that doesn't want to be Jedi. That seems like a past that the Jedi could have had. But 100 years ago is BARELY in the past. Also as far as I'm concerned Anakin is still unique. From the dialogue in this show and in The Phantom Menace Anakin's parthenogenesis was the WILL OF THE FORCE. Whereas the parthenogenesis of these twins was the will of this witch. It seems like she created them by using a geographical force nexus. Their birth was not the will of the force even though the force was used to create them.
