I like that this set is basically just a commander set but they made it modern legal while not forcing it to be a modern horizons style set. The more wizards uses the eyes on commander to draw people to eternal formats the better

What's cool about Smoke Bomb is that since it is symmetrical, you could also use it in response to a pump spell or an equip. In many cases, you might just be able to think of it as a colorless counterspell/stifle for anything that targets a creature. Still not great, but it has more utility than just protection from removal.

Shao Jun + Ghyrson Starn will fit nicely together.

Smoke Bomb can also be used offensively, to fizzle an opponent's attempt to pump, enchant or equip one of their creatures, since it gives specifically Shroud, and not Hexproof. Imagine an opponent swings in with an apparent chump attack, obviously holding up a combat trick spell. You 'take the bait' and block, they smugly cast their Temur Battle Rage or whatever, and then you smoke bomb it, blowing out their attack, and setting up an unblockable backswing. Still not going to be a staple, but could be good for a sideboard card I guess to deal with rogue boggles or the like.

Yes Aya triggers on legendary and artifact creatures, but also if you go to the trouble of casting Opalescence in a Saga deck. Which is totally a thing normal people think of, right?

I really wish this wasn't modern legal... I really like Assasin's Creed, but I'd rather this be a commander product and keep modern a "magic" format without pop culture stuff. Just seems whack to me. Makes no sense to me that we have Lord of the Rings in modern either, hate that I can play a character from this card game I've been playing for decades that has lore, and my opponent can play Gandalf. I'm probably a minority, but keeping magic games "magic" is important to me, otherwise where does the road end?

Ghirapur Aether Grid being able to ping creatures was a big reason why it saw play as a sideboard option. Shao Jun only pinging opponents is not that interesting to me in modern. It's only going to be a commander thing I'm pretty sure.

Don't Havi, Saffi, and sac outlet already infinite loop each other? And depending on the sac outlet, we'd get infinite mana, or damage, or etc. I dont know why we need another legend

There really wasn’t a good reason to make free running have to include the commander; they should’ve just grouped in multiple logical typings into it along with assassins like Rogues and ninjas. It’s weirdly insecure of wotc to feel the need to baby players this much with cards and mechanics like this.

Making this set modern legal was completely unnecessary, especially considering that 100% of the cards spoiled so far are far too weak for the format. I'm not complaining, I hope zero AC cards are modern playable, I just question the decision to make the cards legal in modern. Universes Beyond should remain in the anals of edh. Modern is actually super great right now so it would suck if the format became ruined because of UB sets. All it takes is one poorly designed card and we have another One Ring situation where the card spikes to $70-90 and WotC refuses to ban it because it sells packs. That's how you kill modern.

Set looks nice from an art-perpsective and atmosphere, but so far fairly weak also.

Mjolnir is HUGE for Rhoda and Timin. It actually gives the deck a win-con besides Rhoda commander damage beats.

IDK if I'd call Mary Read OR Anne Bonney 'assassins' tbh....... Though I suppose there are arguments one can make for Anne since she does end up 'sorta' a 'secretive' sort who vanishes from history to hang with Edward's crew for awhile... Mary Read was in NO way even arguably an Assassin... though both were Pirates... hmmmmm I guess it hinges on if one thinks Anne counts... I'm not convinced she does.

The first ability on Connor is sweet flavour text. He can move through the trees above you, totally unseen. So you can't target him or block his first attack when he finally jumps from the tree.

Re: Shao Jun and Malcolm: you’d need the opponents to be evenly damaged before starting the loop, because if you get to 1v1 you’re no longer infinite.

Seth says that Curiosity draws a card whenever enchanted creature deals *combat* damage, despite being the only effect of it's type that specifically triggers on all damage, not just combat damage, and the entire reason he's talking about it.
