It's based on Yasuke, he was one of the Retainers of Oda Nobunaga in Feudal Japan, born in Mozambique. Pretty much Nobunaga, Hanzo, Yasuke, Date Masamune etc. are the more popular people from that time period in Japan.
Mirage is a tribute to the origins of the saga, a game made without much desire, just to please players who ask for a "classic" game. "red" is supposed to be the icing on the cake, as it has been in development for 2 years before Mirage and they invested $300 million in its production.
I am currently playing Odyssey on the most difficult level, my favorite game All time is AC Odyssey so if this is in any way similar to that i will be pumped.

Black samurai is a slap in the face to all Japanese people. As someone mentioned before, Black samurai is like a white main character in Ac Origins. This is not right.
Suppose there are still NO multiple animated kills when enemies are close to each others, or you can't deflect their weapon and counterattack. INSTEAD, you are still going around throwing axes after a stealth kill, a terrible and repeated decision in the last 3 chapters. In that case, THIS will be my 4th big disappointment AC easy skip. If they won't understand that the firsts AC gameplays were about what an assassin does, then the franchise is completely and officially out of its own context. Especially in this chapter, it should be more Ghost of Tsushima than Ghost of Tsushima, not another "The-Witcher-smashig-buttons"! Cmon guys... Bring Back AC already! The last 3 chapters are NOT Assassin's Creed games!

I can tell that Mirage is more AC than the last 3 chapters, and yet not AC enough like the first 3 chapters. SO I bought MIrage just to contribute and let the devs understand that we need Assassins back! Taking enemies weapons with bare hands and killing them all with animated chain kills, like it was before the terrible changes adopted from Origin, is all I wanted. That being said, even Mirage has a teleport multi-kill skill, which should be more like the final skill unlocked when you finish the game instead of the standard go-to skill, what a waste...

If it has the same mechanics, controls and combat styles as the recent games, I want nothing to do with it. Brutal executions and dynamic movement were what made me love the franchise. If they're out, so am I.😢
I just hope that the yasuke storyline gets droped as the ninja/samurai/ronin would be more desireable. Hidden one's lean more towards a character thats ninja rather than a samuray, so for me, that would be preferable.

I think your missing the point behind how people feel about the character. NATURALLY, if a game is going to be based off a certain country and culture, and a specific time period at that, then the people of that country represented want it displayed accurately. It's sentimental to them. It doesn't mean they are racist people. It does mean that they are proud of their heritage. Each and every one of us feel that way deep down, well let's not speak in absolutes, so I'll say the majority of us feel that way about our own country's culture. Seems to me that your twisting that knife into what you want it to be to try and make others look bad when deep down you have some racist issues of your own that aren't resolved. Ubisoft falls short because most of their games are the same as far as mechanics go. The division series, Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, Break Point smh it’s all the same. Their games are fun for a few hour at best. Then there’s the micro transactions. I enjoy them to a point but again it gets boring

@chonkhampter the female ninja, is Japanese, so the black samurai works for me. You can play the rise of ronin or ghost of tsushima and play a Japanese male in Japan once again. Im glad Ubisoft is brave and creative enough to take a different direction.
