Ubisoft’s problem is that they have so much new content and they’re decent with stories and characters, and they give new content quick but they’re scared to innovate and try new stuff. I’ll probably try this down the line still. The game is fun at times
Its kinda sad too, Unity was a huge innovation as far as combat and traversal but since it was so buggy and people skipped it, Ubisoft assumed people didn't like that direction.
They are stuck with same formula they introduced 10 years ago with Far Cry 3. They are now more focused on microtransactions than innovate any gameplay.

People are seriously overreacting. It's a DLC. The main game still is about Assassins and Templars. This is just some goofy, side story for people who like over-the-top action. Remember that nothing that happens in this DLC are real. So, no. Ubisoft didn't ruin this franchise. It's not a part of the main AC Story and it's not even real so stop crying.
Funny thing is, Ubisoft has been revealing this type of stuff since the older AC games, they just so happen to finally create DLCs about it and finally show the ancient isu civilisations that have been in AC lore since forever. They’re all just trying to find an excuse because that’s what people do when something new comes out.

Now the DLC is available si let’s resume it: -8h to finish the story, 15h for the 100% -a bland story -always the same thing : killing bandit, clearing camps, make offerings, … 100% fun and original -Op power strong enough to let you roll on the game in maximal difficulty -the price of a new game …. Ragnarök is the Toba Catastrophe, the event that wiped out the ISU. It's just presented as Norse Mythology because we're seeing it through Eivor's eyes as she's reliving Odin's memories, whom Eivor is a Sage for, and she can't comprehend the REAL version of the ISU so she perceives it as Norse realms, mythology, Gods etc as it's basically the closest reference she has. The fantastical stuff is just an overlay, this is in fact the fall of the ISU.
The price is ridiculous..... It's an expansion for god's sake, most of the assets look exactly the same as the base game. Ubisoft is really milking this crap
From a once excited and hopeful fan it is shameful to witness the fall of another great franchise at the behest of a company so entrenched in what they know to be profitable, such that they fail to embrace the notion that they could still have their cake and eat it too. The talent embedded in the studios is marred by the rigidity of upper management failing to recognise that they could remain true to the Assassin’s creed franchise with tales of the creed in the style of earlier entries in the franchise and also spinoff the RPG into its own league of games with a ‘warrior’ franchise rather than slowly failing to provide both at the same time. Dissenters have displayed they are yet to lose all hope of redemption and Acolytes also show an interest in embracing a new direction for what would become their own franchise.

Since Odyssey and Valhalla mostly explores the Isu side of the lore, it could've been a new IP sold as a spin off to AC. Like how Portal and Half Life are different IPs set in the same universe. One is a first person puzzle, and the other is a first person shooter, hence why they're titled differently. It's really that simple and people's feelings would be much more different on the series...

Feels like Ubisoft games are just recycled games with different characters... They should do some creative evolution because all their games feel like they are all the same ...
They tend to stick with the safe formula of making games, one that's proven to earn them a lot of money by microtransactions rather than innovating. At this point we shouldn't be blaming companies for making 'em but blame consumers who keep buying them. However, in this day and age not everyone is a passionate gamer who holds high standards when playing/buying new games, as a matter of fact most gamers just play games casually. They see the title "Assassin's Creed", "Far Cry" or another famous franchise and they'd wanna get on it so can you REALLY blame them? This became the new norm, loot boxes and microtransactions. Passionate gamers back then already saw them as bad news but a lot of people didn't really care. These companies don't care about what we think unless it affects them financially. To these big corporations, games are just business after all.
Well it's not like we didn't expect it to be just meh. Valhalla in its entirety was a complete drag to finish. Minutes felt like hours sometimes cause of how boring the quest and world were, especially after origins (best of the new trilogy in terms of the world and story) and odyssey (which was fun and had some fun concepts + the exploration was super fun imo).
Assassin's creed is in a state of going downhill since Odyssey. And not just AC, other ubisoft games suffered from this too such as Far Cry. Changing core gameplay with RPG elements, if they keep this up they'll lose customers for sure unless they innovate on something new and BETTER.

This DLC along with the Asgard and Jotenheim sections should have just been a standalone mythical RPG game by itself, without the AC title namesake. It's obvious Ubisoft wanted to throw it's name in the hat of mythical RPG's like Witcher and the Soul's games so they should have just developed a new IP with Odin being the protagonist traveling all 9 realms to prevent Ragnarök instead of masquerading this as an Assassin's Creed title. It still would have sold well, if not better because it wouldn't have turned off the traditional AC fanbase.

@@zomberkay Canonically Eivor is a she. 'Male Eivor' is just the Animus putting an Odin skin over Eivor due to her being a Sage for Odin essentially giving her two sets of DNA confusing the Animus. Canon way to play Valhalla is 'Let Animus Pick Gender'.

They made a billion dollars in MTX alone. Another billion on base game, and another billion on season passes. That's a billion more than their previous AC, AC Odyssey. They ain't stopping.
Fun to see how little this series has evolved since changing it's course for the worse with Origins. AC didn't have to innovate a lot before because it was so reliant on the setting and new, but smaller gameplay mechanics. Now every AC is an enormous, empty open world with a long grocery list of repeated quests, devoid of any historical interests.
it's so disappointing to see where this franchise has gone after i've been loyal to them so long. idc if it's "the best selling game in the series" if anything, that's just an impressive mark by the marketing team getting people overhyped about this game. other than that, it's a worse version of the witcher with AC easter eggs in it
Ac Valhalla is a step-down from the fun perks and stats we had in Odyssey, because in Odyssey. In Odyssey, you had the Demigod Armor set which gave you +30% extra damage, in Valhalla you have boring perks that give slight armor. Really do not enjoy the current perk system where 99% is so weak.
I'm just sitting here wishing for an assassin's creed shogun in my lifetime 😭😭😭😭 the fact that they haven't touched Japanese mythology and history so far is such a waste.

This may sound old, but lord. If they called this Valhalla, kept the story and dlc, took out Layla as a focus point, killed Basim, and called this a spinoff with AC lore...they could have made more money and interest from fans off it cause then they could focus more on another AC title while if they ever decide to end the series could continue with spinoff titles like said Valhalla
It's a dlc...not a whole new game...you were expecting a dlc to have completely different mechanics from its base game? That's an idiotic expectation on your behalf. Also anyone who buys this obviously loved the base game enough to purchase the dlc. So I'm sure they're not picking it apart. They're just happy to be playing more content.

People need to accept the fact that if they kept doing what they were doing with the old games it would get boring and repetitive fans just need to accept that games change and plus they already said they are going to go back to their roots in the next game with basin so fans that are stuck on nostalgia will be happy and will stop complaining

If you don't know the rules and lore of this universe better not to say anything about it
Yet, the 'mythology' of these peoples has been declared non-existent and downright fantastical by the franchise's actual lore. The 'gods' don't exist, they were merely an older, much more technologically advanced, race who basically enhanced humans to become slaves through the use of their own technology. What Ragnarok is showcasing doesn't make sense to this lore - it would have been better to showcase what the world looked like under Isu influence and what Odin and the rest of his 'pantheon' were doing alongside or in tandem with other Isu groups to stop or evade the incoming solar damage. This would have better fit with the overall franchise lore, and would have allowed a combination of a bit of existential crisis on Eivor's part, realizing and then acknowledging that her (/his) gods were not gods, while also giving the chance for her (/him) to reconnect with their past life who was sealed away at the end of the base game...which in itself would allow for further story developments. These could have included awakening Sigurd's connection to Tyr, the ability to craft more Isu-influenced technology for Ravensthorpe that would be seen by outsiders (and Templars) as magic and demonic things, further instigating the hatred for the Viking invaders and a push for Eivor to finally take up the mantle of Assassin to fight against the wave of Alfred's new Templars.
Odin is an Isu… haven’t we seen Isu since the beginning? Minerva? Juno? Have you forget about it? What’s wrong with playing with an Isu in the Isu world for the first time?
@@allanmhanson because the game just feels like a generic open world game, where it just happens to have some characters and ideas from the assassin's creed franchise. Yeah, you play as an isu during parts of the game, but because it's put through the lens of norse mythology, it just feels like an extension to england rather than a completely new and different world
Horizion Zero Down Frozen West is the best version of this style of game play and Elder Ring has complete smash the genre in to pieces with there style of play.
This reviewer is really out of reallity. What is one to expect from an EXPANTION, it means that something is being expanded and not reinvented! It can not be judged on the basis as if it was supposed to be a completely new game! Get a grip!
IF ANYONE WANTS TO KNOW HOW TO GET PLATINUM INGOT EASY: If you have bought gear and items from the store example the shattered Axe or Blade if you downgrade them at any blacksmith in the svartlheim you'll get 3 ingots from them, then just save then reload save and can keep doing the same
I’m not here for them to change the formula, I’m here for them to delve deeper into and expand the Valhalla story, that’s exactly what they’ve done, plus most people won’t have played this in 8/12 months so it’s refreshing to revisit
