Is anyone else shocked that there are over 8 Assassins Creed games, yet none of them is set in Feudal Japan? The closest thing we have is Assassin's Creed: Chronicles but that was set in Imperial China and was a spin-off. C'mon, Ninja and Samurai are perfect for this franchise. I want to cut down corrupt magistrates and duke it out with the Shogun and Yakuza. Make it happens Ubisoft!
I 100% agree. The Sengoku Warring States period would be awesome to play in with plenty of stuff to do. For a more refined and civilized setting the early to mid Edo period would work well for missions too.
3x the size of black flag? KILL ME. Black Flag had a RIDICULOUS amount of "padding" with repetitive missions and assassination targets put across the map in areas that took up to an hour to reach in some cases. Once again, what people refuse to understand is while size is a nice factor to have in a game, it means nothing without meaningful, hand-crafted content filling that said area *cough cough* No Man's Sky *cough cough* MGSV *cough cough* Black Flag
i don't have any trust in the black flag team, they may do a good job at the gameplay perspective but i have a lot of fear on the storyline itself..... i lobed the ezio trilogy but after that (this is how i feel about it) it just went downhill

Just to be clear, they haven't doubled the development time. These games take 3-5 years to make. They're not starting the next game after the current one is out. They're developed concurrently. They gave this one an extra year to give the franchise time to breathe because their sales figures were going down
It was another duplicate that's what. We already have more than 6 AC games, we didn't need a copy. The characters were boring, the story was meh, and it wasn't really anything new. Which is what the AC series NEED. They need something new, not just the same old "become assassin, assassinate target, get uplay points" route.
I would also include Mass Effect: Andromeda but lately, Bioware has been hit or miss with their games. Doesn't help that lead devs, writers and producers have left since DA: Inquisition. Nonetheless, I hyped for another Mass Effect.
sparda hellkin DA: Inquisition was step in the right direction, especially when compared to the the stripped down ME3, however it felt too MMO like if that makes sense. Also, the world barely had anything in it. Big empty open world with fetch quest galore. I'm hoping the go back to their RPG roots similar to DA: Origins or ME1. Witcher 3 is perhap is prime example where you have an insanely dense open world with a shit ton of stuff to do. And to think that Cyberpunk 2077 is going to be twice, if not 3x larger than that.
The only game that has blown me away since The Witcher 3 is Far Cry Primal on Expert/Survivor Mode with Permadeath on. That is just an incredible game like that. Try it sometime with all HUD options off.
Agreed. ACIV was great except the backstory sucked, don't give a shite what ppl say I liked the present day stuff in the first 3.5 games and DA;I was way to much like an MMO good story but was imo an open world DA2
I've wanted this for years. Tenchu stealth assassins was my favourite game ever, waaay back on ps1. Assassins creed in japan and china is a monster game, just waiting to be made. The ninja is the perfect assassin. Why it hasn't been seized on yet is a mystery.
Assassin's Creed series has to be one of the best series I've ever played but after 2 it went down hill I said back then that if they continued to modernize the game it would kill it for me, guns then they simplified the controls, then the yearly releases creeded me out and now I have not played it since black flag. I would enjoy it much more if they shed light on Altair's life when he went to Asia, they talk about it in Revelations but you never experience it, that would be sick ECSPESIALLY with samurai or ninja assassins
Yes! All I wanted was another Altair game with modernized graphics and controls and what not, instead we get Egypt with a non talkative character unlike ezio who was a favorite for myself. Hopefully this game turns out amazing at the least.
I remember in Assassin's Creed 2 in Mario's basement where he had Altair's armor there were statues of past assassins who changed history there was one of the assassin who killed Cleopatra. Ancient Egypt lasted a long time; maybe Empire will be just at the end of ancient Egypt when the Romans were taking over from Cleopatra, and we can either meet or be the one who killed her
Just because they are taking an extra year to develop the next game doesn't automatically mean that it's going to have an extra large amount of effort and care put into it, it just means that it's going to have slightly more care and effort put into it compared to the last 2 games, which, undeniably, are glitchy and messy as hell(syndicate was better but still)
An extra year for a dev period is actually is a significant extension, especially for an annual franchise. You'd be surprised how much an extra 12 months does for a game.
B Chahley you're correct in the fact that it does a significant amount for a game, but considering the average quality they have set for themselves with Unity and Syndicate(when it comes to glitchyness, even the games before that had a lot of glitches), them adding more time to get it more cleaned up, brings it from shitty to simply good

What you mean, one more year does not guarantee a great game and I second that. What you said is contradictory mate, they realized their fuck ups and are putting in extra care and effort into it. If it will turn out to be good, we don't know, but they definitely are putting extra effort. If not, look at Watch Dogs 2 and how they listened to their audience to the point of perfectly optimizing it for PC and removing towers to unlock the map
N3WR3N41554NC3 you are right in saying that they are putting more care and effort into the game in order to make it great, and I could be absolutely wrong when it comes out, but my main point is that just seeing as this game would have continued the Ubisoft trend of putting a game out every year, and would have most likely been super glitchy(and mediocre like unity when it comes to story as compared to ACII), making it a relatively fine or good game, putting this extra time doesn't automatically make it great and amazing, it no doubt could in fact be great, but we can't simply take that leap in assumption simply because it has gone from a game that would have been rushed out to a game that is simply coming out at a relatively normal pace)as compared to the speed at which other game series come out). Again, I could be totally wrong when it comes out, but for right now, we can't just say it's going to be levels and levels above syndicate and unity just because it's taking an extra year to come out, from 1 year(which is crazy) to 2(which is also kinda fast, but closer to a more normal pace)
I hope they still put real, iconic people, and landmarks in it. I hope they don't change how the story goes. It wouldn't be Assassin's Creed without the History behind it, that's truth.
I agree. I love being actually able to learn some history in a fun way while I play a game. I've lost count now of how many times I've heard questions on TV quiz shows and knew the answer because I read about it in an assassins creed game, like the Tea Party, or the french revolution etc....
+2ndMOUSEofficial Exactly. I got my inspiration to learn Italian from Ezio, in all honesty. I think he's the better, and more experienced Assassin, because he was educated by the same creed Altaïr led on. I feel Altaïr and Ezio really define the core of the Brotherhood.
yeah I agree. The backstory was really definied in the original games too. Once they ditched the whole desmond / precursor race thing, it got a bit "whats the point to it all now ?". I enjoy the later games too, but they feel much less connected, less integral to the plot, and I hated how one minute you're sailing a pirate ship then the next minute walking around abstergo with a tablet hacking into peoples workstations...doing some nice hacking puzzles, but which ultimately didn't have a great lot to do with the overall story.....but, the attention to research and details really is fascinating, and a good way to get kids not only enjoying themselves, but possibly actually learning something too.
2ndMOUSEofficial holy shit MY PEOPLE WHO UNDERSTAND ME. why doesn't Unisoft get this?! we liked a background story I've played every assassin's creed that's ever come out but after revelations I was literally like what the fuck is the point if there's no underlying greater story with Desmond?? why would I go back in time to do shit pointlessly. since assassin's creed 3 forward I literally gave no concern to side missions just went straight for the story missions and I realise I wasted my time as it didn't tie into anything greater
I do understand where you're coming from, as well. I think I understand where they are going with the over-arching story with the Precursors and the whole "ghost in the machine" bit with Juno, but I do agree that the urgency, the "reason" just isn't there anymore. With the apocalypse averted thanks to Desmonds sacrifice there's no tangible threat besides a vague one by Juno who... hasn't really done anything besides offering cryptic strings of words despite proclaiming that she'll rule over humanity. One of the things I didn't understand was that whole WW1 side mission in Syndicate. I like the fact that Lydia played a large role in World War One, but other than the one-or-so new gameplay mechanic it offered I wondered to myself "why is this even here?" That was until Juno started to explain to "you" about this secret cult that apparently the Templars aren't even aware of. They have apparently been secretly worshiping her since before the Fall of the First Civilization. I then realized this whole side mission was just one big exposition dump/set-up for Empire. I really hope this is a set-up for Empire because... you can't just introduce the idea of this secret society that has been around since the dawn of mankind and NOT do anything with it. Especially this late into the series. In all honestly, this feels more like a ret-con if anything since as far as I know it... there hasn't been a shred of evidence that this cult ever existed until it was brought up briefly in the Rift mission for AC: Syndicate. Ah well, I'm still looking forward to Empire.

Assassins creed 1. Decent story, Decent story, quite boring as it was literally the same thing 9 times but solid game for the first in the series 2. Probably the best game, great story, great new gameplay mechanics, great characters, lots of new areas. Revelations.- Good story to wrap up Ezios story, Bit repetitive, good new mechanics 3. Decent game that was very different to previous games, good switch up on the story though you didn't become an assassin till half way through the game. Main character was pretty dull and boring, Decent villains and side characters moderately made up for the poor protagonist 4. Great "revolution" of the assassins creed formula, Greater protagonist, Story that I actually cared about and great emotional ending. variety of side missions. I don't think you technically became an assassin till the end of the game though. Rogue - Didn't play it Unity- Good concept and they tried to switch things up, could have worked but there was a poor story, dull and forgettable protagonist and other characters, and of course the release day bugs Syndicate- Used Unity as a base and greatly improved it, good switch up, better side missions, memorable side characters. People hate on it because they have memories of Unity and just hate on it for the sake of it without playing.
Abdul Samad oh yeah. Brotherhood - Good continuation of 2. not as revolutionary as 2 was but still a slight improvement. good story, lacked a bit of discovery because Rome was the only city in the game (yes it was big but you didn't have the change and unique variations like AC2 did)
I'm not too thrilled until I know more, I feel this is a turning point for AC if this game is bad it could doom the series until a hard reboot, or it can save the series and set it up for a few years

They should make the character a prince who got dethroned by the "Beings" got made a slave then Juno created the Assassins to kill them for her own plans, recruited him to claim his rightful place for his Empire. Templars are the Beings guards. One Being controls Egypt the other Greece etc...hunting time "once we were many but now few" (AC2) ...things I think about for AC lol

I also agree with the Egyptian comment, I am also looking forward with an ancient Egyptian play on assassins creed. There's just so much that they can do with it, and with this extra bit of time it's making me excited that they MIGHT make a good game

The Witcher 3 is the best game I've ever played with the most fun and rewarding combat system on Deathmarch difficulty. Open world was absolutely incredible. Only wish that you could parkour like Assassin's Creed Unity. People that complain about TW3 being too difficult or that it has shitty combat just fucking suck at the game. Really hope they go with the free form combat system in the next AC and walk away from that shitty, wipe out entire civilizations with counter kill garbage that the series is plagued with. The best AC combat imo was Unity. Even with the bugs it was the best AC, except the main story.
This actually sounds really interesting. I told myself I wouldn't buy another Assassin's Creed game after Unity but this one is definitely up for consideration. I can just imagine playing as an Egyptian assassin and fighting against Roman guards that have occupied Egypt.
Anas Abderrabi being an old gamer who started playing around 86 I don't care much for the graphics. Last pop game on PSP was a great game and it was just a 2,5D but platform gameplay system was so brilliant, game's story and environment was like a tale from 1001 night tales.
I agree, the core of the game ain't about the graphics, rather about the gameplay & story. But nowadays the competition between gaming companies has rose (/ risen?) in the aspect of graphics and therefore, if we do get another pop game, it will have fantastic graphics for sure. But hey, in the end it's all about the gameplay.
Ancient Egypt + Assassin's Creed = my most favorite thing I will ever own. I love Ancient Egypt as well and I'm also thinking about becoming an Egyptologist. Plus Assassin's Creed is my favorite game franchise in existence.
I'm a Black Flag fan, would not mind a complete game based solely on the pirate theme without the AC stuff. I started AC with 3. Had potential but did not imperess me overall. I got Rogue then Unity then 2 and 2.2, 2.3 and am a fan now. Waiting for the latest one to come out used so yeah, can't wait to see what they do with Empire. My biggest hope is to live to play RDR2.
Lunare Crepuscular this ancient stuff could be really cool. they totally have to take it to SHAOLIN and ancient Japanese ninjas and samurai.. he could be a Buddhist or something. in a later game. but yeah the way it's all linked to the templars who are like the knights of Christ or whatever it would be interesting to take it back to that kind of stuff. but Egypt has such a huge timeline it could be anything. probably when the Romans were there like Marcus Aurelius or an ezio ancestor.. obviously because it's a bloodline..
YES!!! i totally got excited when you mentioned the same team who developed AC Black Flag is working on AC Empire. Black Flag was arguably the best game when the PS4 first launched. That game blew me away, i loved the open world exploration, the main character was bad ass, and the naval combat was stellar. I really enjoyed AC Rouge on the ps3 as well.
well black flag was my favourite ac game , so the fact that the same developers are making empire and have an extra year is pretty exciting, plus they're working with an updated engine

im a massive fan of assassins creed and I'm excited for the same exact reason. originally I was really annoyed about the gap year but the idea grew on me. can't wait!!!
I was the same kid, obsessed with ancient history, Egypt in particular and ur right there arent many good games about Ancient Egypt. A lot depends really on how ancient do you want to go, since a lot of the 'facts' of those times arent really facts, they are mostly unconfirmed theories, so its a really good ground to do the usual AC storyline with the artifacts of the Gods... And if they will move from Egypt to Greece after this, its probably going to be the best AC trilogy for me, just because of those worlds and how they will make them come alive, cant wait, thanks for the heads up i didnt even know something like this was coming out =)

+Kevin Lentz I think Unity was too lacklustre. The level design, mission variety was a big improvement. But Arno was a forgettable character and the combat was pretty unpolished. And of course, the bugs. But I don't think Unity sucked. It was just disappointing. I never got to playing Rogue. maybe I should sometime. Syndicate was great for me. They kept the good things from Unity and eliminated the bad things. The two main characters were great. The combat from Unity, which felt like a prototype, really took shape in it. I actually think Syndicate was my second favorite game in the series.

I only recently started playing Assassins Creed and so far I am loving them I have completed Black Flag and I am almost halfway through Syndicate and so far it has been pretty good. Anyway I think that going back to Ancient Egypt was a good move because the best part of Assassins Creed is the stealth and hidden blades so taking out all the guns and stuff could be a good move.
Main villain is going to be Cleopatra. Just finished a glyph in AC2 where it shows a bunch of famous people being assassinated. Cleopatra of Egypt was one of them.
If Luke is a major Egyptian fan, then I am a super Ancient Greece/Rome fan, their society and mythology etc really fascinate me. So the actual concept of an Assassins' Creed game being set in Ancient Greece is far more exciting to me than one set in Japan. Although I am still a really big fan of Japan and Samurai and Ninja and would love a game in that setting, just not as much as one in Ancient Greece.
I'll remain sceptical about the next Assassin's Creed game. But personally my most anticipated game of 2017 is God of War 4, if it's confirmed to be released in 2017.
Assassin's Creed in Egypt is a great concept and such an interesting place for the lore. I don't know how they can do it though... They will need a good balance between open space and houses and such. I don't think Ubisoft will ever create anything as special as the Altair and Ezio games, and the arc with Desmond. Those games had great story, lore, interesting events and gameplay was always good. I still like the others after, I just think that was the height of the series. I'm yet to play AC Syndicate which I should have by ow, but I have a feeling I won't enjoy it as much.
I have traveled through a number of asian and oriental countries amd still surprised they have not seen this as a great opportunity. The fighting would be so interesting like sleeping dogs, then it would be great free running and fashion and just the grand and heavy history that lies in asia.
AC Brotherhood was my favourite, 100% completed the game and just loved calling assassins out of nowhere to kill guards that might spot you. I'm excited.
Ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome could be really interesting. Remember all those assassin statues in the villa in Monterrigioni? I would want to play as this Roman assassin who was the first one to use hidden blades.
That trilogy would work quite nicely - especially if its Rameses II era. You could have battle of Kadesh, the exodus and potentially even the trojan war in that
Imagine a much more modern- hit man type AC set in a large city such as New York. Or if they used the entire United States as your stomping grounds. Being able to form underground connections, and upgrade to afford expensive flights and such. The police (Templars) would be your threat in this game and I think it should be a bit like GTA in being able to kill anyone or fuck anything up. THAT would be BADASS.
