Mariusz "Maniek" Urbaniak, a former operator of JW GROM, served 21 years in the military, including 13 years in GROM. In 2013, he received the Knight's Cross of the Order of the Military Cross from President Bronisław Komorowski. In 2019, as the first Pole, he was awarded the title of International Medic of the Year by SOMA, the Special Operations Medical Association.
