Awesome video Van. I think a big difference between you and me is that there are now segments of you banging your head on the wall with assembly at a stand still :) good work!

you should use loctite 574 on your case halves. only coat one side and have your other case half ready to go on before applying the sealer. case nuts need no sealer and they need to be new. they have a red seal made into them

Very useful and interesting video! I definitely have it now in my favorites, as I am a 914 enthusiast and probably am thinking of buying one next week....thank you a million!!!

Two mistakes... 1. Sealant applied to both case halves. 2. Sealant applied to the oil pump cover @ cover gasket. This will cause loss of oil pressure, resulting lubrication issues and early engine failure.

How many mechanics do you know of that use a claw hammer for automotive use it's just a small amount of trolling but the right tool for the job. Also looks like some kind of el cheapo torque wrench and also waaay to much aviation permatex on the mating surfaces.

Really nice. I would love to see more videos along these lines. I am thinking of buying a 914 engine just to play around with it . I put this video in my favorites file.

I also use a type 1 oil pump on type 2 builds 30 mm but I have to machine the back of the pump housing pump shaft and the cam bolts are you using a smaller pump

I have seen substances of every color and texture used to join air cooled cases together when all you need is a LIGHT coat of Permatex gasket maker
@dielauwen
@dielauwen 6 лет назад
Permatex aviation form a gasket , approved by lycoming or Hylomar blue approved bt rolls royce is the only sealer to be used for aircooled engines . Never a leak when applied correctly and set up for a night.

I assume type 4 lifters can be inserted after the case is put together - I've not yet done a T4 build myself.

Hi, I am currently reassembling this engine for the first time (I am confortable with other classics in line 4 cylinders but not this one), can you tell me what the guy is installing at 7:05, is that oil pressure or temp sensor? thanks for your help !👍👍👍
@danleitner1635
@danleitner1635 3 года назад
@@diso41 That looks like an oil temp sender. Normally the oil temp sender is installed where the orange plate is at upper right. The normal location is not good as the plate is often very hard to keep from leaking. The location where the "temp sensor" has been moved to looks questionable. That is to say the engine would need to be removed to change the "temp sensor" since it's behind the fan housing. A massive project on a 914.

Needs music. Find a nice funk bass solo or something. Jazz. A jazz number. That would work. Something that just moves.

Please don't follow this guy he is a beginner with no training! If u build one of these engines please use a ring compressor and clock the ring gaps in the correct position! I'm sure his engine had it leaks oil and smokes out of the exhausts upon startup after about ten thousand miles.
@gbushsux9378
@gbushsux9378 9 лет назад
Sorry but the 914s puny horsepower just doesn't justify the huge outlay in cash to rebuild it.I put the Chevy V8 in mine and haven't stopped smiling yet.71 thousand miles and no issues like oil leaks,adjusting valves like the type 4.No more getting outrun by Grandma in her Ford Fusion.Just keepin it real.
@20110102
@20110102 9 лет назад
except you know, you have to butcher the rear end of the car to fit the v8 in there. not to mention the outlay of cash required to do all the fabrication work. And on top of that, its no longer porsche. You would be better off just throwing a 918 fiberglass shell on a spaceframe.
@1400IntruderVS
@1400IntruderVS 9 лет назад
GBUSH SUX Kind of changes the driving dynamic of the car but I understand. I like the light weight engine and the more balanced handling. It makes the car fun with out being a handful. Playful. I have seen T4s smoke modern corvettes with enough work. They scream. they're probably temperamental and they also kind of break away from the dynamic of the 914 experience. More power is great. Too much power and, why did you buy the car if you didn't appreciate it's character? The platform wasn't designed to hold the added weight or the stress associated with big power. Expecting a 914 to be more like a Pantera is a bold but there are plenty of other cars I would rather butcher for that. Solid 914 are getting harder to find. Never the less, that must be one bad ass warrior with a V8 in it!

+1400IntruderVS The goal of my project 914 was to build a car for ten grand that handled better than 1970s muscle cars I used to build and had the Porsche look without the high shop bills of a exotic.I looked at a few 911s but they were either ragged out or the nice ones cost $30,000 or more.The 914 can be beefed up with a chassis stiffening kit and a roll bar which makes it quite up to the task of handling the V8.Even with a stock 1967 Chevy 283 V8 this car is way more fun to drive.Almost every part for the T4 engine is expensive.The stock 914 fuel injection system is temperamental and hard to find parts for.(did I mention expensive?).It doesn't cost any more to go fast if you spend your money wisely.You don't have to modify the Chevy V8 to make this combo fast. I did this to prove you can run with the big boys without a fat wallet.

LOL, are you serious youre not using a torquemeter to build an engine? Are you serious that you put the shaft oil retainers with a hammer directly without using a soft piece of wood of the same area to cover the retainer completely and apply equal pressure to all sides? OMG are you sure you did apply the RTV sealant with that brush?...................................................

Why rebuild a T4 for your 914? Prices on some have gone past $30,000. Prices for those with 350s haven't. Few people care about having such a hybrid.
@LovingChrist4Ever2
@LovingChrist4Ever2 8 лет назад
+jockellis If you look at the website 914world there are quite a few of us that love the V8 conversions and there are quite a few guys building Porsche 911 powered 914s. I don't have anything against the stock 914s but to me it's just too cool of a car to be slow! I myself can't see thirty large for a 914 but if I had that kind of money to invest in a stock Porsche it would be a 951 (944 Turbo) or a 964.Just my opinion.
