A new fast cycling route is being constructed between Assen and Groningen in the Netherlands. Parts of it are already finished. This new section is not yet finished, but there was nothing to stop me making a right turn, so I did.

It would be wonderful to see a video showing the whole journey from Assen to Groningen when work on this route is finished. Thank you for sharing this with us!

Do they use something else than the typical red material for this?

Not all Dutch cycle-paths are red. Many cycle-paths are made of asphalt and with this it is relatively easy to achieve a red colour (though far from every asphalt cycle-path is red). But this cycle-path is made of concrete. Concrete is much more stable (we have 30 year old cycle-paths which have received minimal maintenance but still are of excellent quality). It is rare for concrete to be coloured. There is more information about concrete cycle-paths here: www.aviewfromthecyclepath.com/search/label/concrete
