Alberto Espay, MD, MSc, University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, OH, discusses the assessment of functional movement disorders in clinical practice. The functional neurological diagnosis requires a neurological evaluation by a neurologist familiar with the broad spectrum of neurological manifestations, such as tremor, myoclonus, and chorea. Two elements important for the diagnosis are the inconsistency of the expression of the phenotypes, and the extent to which the manifestations observed are incongruent with the rules for the different movement phenotypes. This interview took place at the 2022 International Congress of Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders in Madrid, Spain.
