Awesome video! Setups are tough to get into, especially when you're dialing it in and have to do 3-4 lap runs to make minor adjustments. But this guide is really helpful to get the gist of tuning a car. 1. I always set gears: a) to nearly top out at the end of the longest straight, and b) to have comfortable downshift points around the course. Something where I can select a gear for each corner that allows me to put power down without having to worry too much about wheelspin. Getting a comfortable balance between the peak torque and hp bands is ideal, but sometimes you have to sacrifice power for stability. For a novice tuner, adjusting individual gears is not the way to go, final gear is what you wanna focus on. 2. I used to always use default tire pressures until I realized I wasn't getting the most contact with the road. If you don't opt for Sidekick, my rule of thumb is to try to get tire temps within 20 degrees F (around 10 degrees C) across the tire, with the inside running hotter than the outside. This goes hand-in-hand with camber and toe. 3. It's important to make sure the car doesn't bottom out, but a lower car is usually a faster car. Lowering the ride height does affect suspension travel, and doing things like running split/stagger (lower front, higher rear) can affect handling as well. 4. I adjust more on aero than anything else with my AC setups. You want just enough rear downforce to keep the rear planted in fast corners (too much slows you down on straights), and just enough front downforce to keep the nose guided through a corner (too little=understeer, too much=oversteer). Usually you won't see the effect of your aero until you wear your tires a bit. 5. Camber is a difficult adjustment. I use it in unison with toe angle and tire pressure to keep tire temps fairly even across the tread, with the inner temp about 5 degrees hotter than the middle and 10 degrees hotter than the outer. I find this usually works best. 6. Brake bias is pretty simple. You want it as far to the rear as possible without losing control under braking. Too much to the front can cause a lockup or create understeer getting into corners. 7. ARB is something I feel can be adjusted to your driving style. If you tend to attack curbs, less is more so to speak. You want to manage roll (especially at the front), but going too stiff can cause unpredictable corner exits. More roll can help the car turn mid-corner, but also makes steering a bit "numb". The car won't react as quickly to steering input. 8. I barely adjust diff from default. Usually I'll lower it if the car tends to shoot out of a corner wide, or to help the car rotate mid-corner as I come off the brakes. 9. Underrated tip! Lowering fuel with the adjustments you made shows you what the car will do at peak performance due to the lower weight. I tend to make my micro-adjustments when in qualifying trim (enough fuel for 3-4 laps, on the softest compound).

Especially given the fact that physics of each sim are suprisingly varied and often require different changes in car sertings. Thank you for this video. Just a very important note: Decreasing height WILL causa understeer. So if you're struggling with that on all other settings, the Height is the main culprit. At least, for me it was, in every setup I made. And compensating that by decreasing AERO may not be an option many times.
@LaurenceDusoswa

In theory yes, less height can introduce lots of factors. But in AC I don't notice it as much as you would in real life or other sims

very helpful thank you! The Camber Extravaganza app 6:39 has really improved my lap times (>20%). This vid is the best how-to-use Camber Extravaganza. But it took some time to understand its numbers. This may help or be TMI: Yes, getting green colors on all turns is the goal, but that's impossible as all turns are different. So, you have to decide which turns on that circuit are more valuable, in lap time, to set camber for. The little number under each tire is showing the actual camber at that moment, not the current camber setting. Only when the tire goes green, the little number is saying "this is the correct camber to use in setup", but only for the outside tire of a turn, as close to racing speed as possible. Reading that tiny number while driving is hard, so, watching a replay can help. The 2 larger numbers in the app, if set to Delta, can help somewhat, telling you to add or subtract camber in setup. A positive delta is saying "move the slider to the right", negative delta "move the slider to the left" in the AC alignment page. But the delta number is an average of both tires (fronts or rears), not tire specific. Even after you have correctly set your camber for a tire, and it is green for the important corner/s, the Delta won't show zero because its an average of both tires. Since everything is related, after other adjustments (aero, ride height, gear ratios, springs, anti roll bars etc.) recheck camber again. Proper tire pressure is extremely important. If under or over inflated, they will be too hot or too cold; and even though Camber Extravaganza is showing happy green tires you'll slide wide in all the turns.

Very helpful video. One thing - I have the soft slick tires on the car I'm using (Ferrari 599XX) and I've set tire pressure according to Sidekick and Camber according to Extravaganza, but I can't get the tires to stay hot. I have the tire blankets set, so they start green, but by the second turn on the circuit they are dark blue (using the default tire display). The changes to pressure and camber seem to have improved my cornering, but I can't help but think the cold tires aren't helping.

Hi really great video & tutorial; may I ask you about "ride height" ... if I lower it, should I see the the car "lower" (nearer to the tarmac) ? or what I see in game does not change ?
@LaurenceDusoswa
@LaurenceDusoswa 2 года назад
yes you should, but with some cars you see it less than with others. You can even see it 'per side' if you raise one side to max.
@seamountseamount
@seamountseamount 2 года назад
and a second question: in other simulators it's important the tyres temperatures and the difference within the same tyre; I mean the I / M / O temperatures. Should be care about those values in AC, or we just need to analyze the "core" temperature. in other words only one "generic" temperature for the tyre ?
@LaurenceDusoswa
@LaurenceDusoswa 2 года назад
From my experience, AC's tyres aren't that fussy. As long as the pressures are right, the temps stay ok. I know that's a bit of a chicken and egg situation but the sidekick app makes life a lot easier. temps are less important than the pressures in AC.

Hi i'm struggling to fine a "safe" setup for every car. I would like to have a setup for endurance and not hotlap, something more forgiving, because in 1hour offline race sometime you will make mistakes. Which are the the most important setting to change the car in a more predictible "way" ?
@LaurenceDusoswa
@LaurenceDusoswa 2 года назад
Yep, higher aero is almost always the answer in Assetto corsa. Just maintain the balance between front and rear because too much rear wing can actually make a car difficult to turn in

@SheetFiber 2 года назад
Personally, I would turn the traction control down to half or less to better feel the car reaction
@LaurenceDusoswa
@LaurenceDusoswa 2 года назад
Depends on the car but yes it can help. Also bear in mind that traction control in Assetto corsa is backwards. 0 is off but 1 is the highest setting. The higher the number, the LESS traction control interference there is.

Sidekick will tell you how much to adjust them. But your tyre pressures when in the pits are completely different to your operating pressures once driving and tyres are warm. What pressures need to be in tyres at operating condition depends on what you're driving really. With sidekick, you don't need to care. You just want to get the values on screen as close to 0 as possible.
@horrgakx
@horrgakx 3 года назад
@@LaurenceDusoswa thanks, so the + amount is how much I need to change the pressures by so they are all equal?
@LaurenceDusoswa
@LaurenceDusoswa 3 года назад
@@horrgakx yep, then do a few laps and that value should be close to 0. if it's still +0.7 for example, just add 1psi and the next time you do a few laps it should be at a consistent -0.3. The closer to 0, the better.

I'm on console so these apps won't work are there other ways to help with tire pressures and other things to help fine tune the cars?
@LaurenceDusoswa

unfortunately I have no experience with consoles really. however, you cannot install apps on console. There may be console specific guides out there
@taxi615
@taxi615 2 года назад
@@LaurenceDusoswa yeah it's sadly the big downside of consoles. I'm sure they could find a way as xbox has full access to the web so is it laziness or something else. Playstation took web browsing completely off for some stupid reason. I just don't want to build a 3000$+ PC just for sim racing. Probably will at some point

why won't it tell me the speed of the wheels when I burnout the car but the speed of the car, and whether it can be adjusted
@LaurenceDusoswa

There’s no wat to adjust that. It’s the game telling you the physical speed of the car, not of the wheels.

If only the table with the wheels and this guy's face wasn't in the focus of the video instead of the actual game footage, it would be 10/10 instead of 7/10

@@LaurenceDusoswa Ahhh, okay. I'm really new to the game (bought it just 3 days ago), so I'm still learning stuff, but I'm liking more racing on roads with street cars rather than race courses, which explain why I didn't see them. With cars like the AE86, Skyline or the Quattro, you can only change the type of wheel, not the compound, AFAIK at least.

One thing you forget! This is just a game! Every simulator game works only in the virtual physics world what the game created! Every sim game different, because the virtual physics world of the game is different! And every game is not CLOSE to the real world physics and working of a real car! So many people forget it! Just because you are good is a virtual world with virtual ruled physics, you will die in the first corner of a real racetrack in a burning GT3 car, because real world physics not equal to virtual world physics! Every sim game have different rules for physics so these "settings" are valid only that sim games virtual physics world, that you play.
@LaurenceDusoswa

You cannot say that what you learn in a sim doesn’t help you in real world racing. It may not be like for like, but someone who is good in a sim is far more likely to excel than someone who as neither sim nor real race experience. That has been proven many many times.

@@LaurenceDusoswa Learning track is the most advance of sim games. Norbert Michelisz, Gabor Weber and Norbert Kiss practiced tracks on GTR2 and Race07 in the middle of 2000s. Weber said Race07 was 90-95% true to life if you want to learn a track with a front wheel drive car, corner exits etc... (rear wheel drive cars not so realistic in any simulators they said) But he said the lack of the real wolrd things - like real G-forces, and the most important thing the lack of fear makes this games easy than real life.
