Two acoustic guitar recordings, one a fifth up from the other. The one that is a fifth up is phase modulating the other. Later, an oscillator is used to phase modulate the acoustic guitar sample.
Hey I got a8 thanks for your help! It’s an amazing sampler! I found out you can do some cool stuff sending cv from Ableton and using an arpeggio to arpegiate the pitch of a sample without retriggering it at all, things just get so dynamic with cv
Nice, glad you like it! That’s a really neat tip arpeggiating the pitch without retriggering, I’ll have to try that out with my Morphagene (or maybe even the a8 again in the future when I inevitably buy one again lol).
Ryan Palma Yeah no problem. I was actually looking for posts related to Assimil8or and Morphagene PM myself when I stumbled across your post. I had no idea Morphagene even did PM until recently or I may have gone a different direction with my setup!
joez2103 what’s your take on the a8 overall? Does it work well with longer loop type samples like the Cars song in the demos or is it frustrating? Any general anecdotal info would be valuable to hear :)
Ryan Palma It’s straightforward to use, and it has a lot of voices available. On my other video I uploaded for instance, I have a bass oscillator, two higher oscillators mixed together FM’d by another modulation oscillator, and a stereo sample playing with modulated loop start and length, and the sample is PM’d by another modulation oscillator, and I still have one channel left. So that’s one stereo sample and 5 single-cycle waveforms running on just the Assimil8or. It’s easy to browse and load samples, and sampling itself is quick and easy. Working with loops works well for the most part, but the biggest problem for me is trying to modulate loop start and length via CV. It’s doable, but without some tweaking, it’s liable to play through the entire sample when I’m just looking to loop a small portion of the sample, while constantly modifying start time and loop length. On the Morphagene you just modulate Gene Size and the Slide parameters and it just works. I was really hoping to use it like the Morphagene in this way, and while it gets me 80% of the way there (and makes a lot of tasks much easier, such as splicing a sample), it’s not quite as easy or as playable for this one use case.
joez2103 thanks for the detailed reply friend. I think I will get both a8 and Morphagene, I have to at least hear the a8 with my samples (which are legion), they say the pitch shifting algorithm is second to none
