Asterism are an instrumental power trio from Fukuoka, Japan. They consist of: Haruka Noma, guitars (“HAL-CA”) Miyu Yoshinaka, bass Mio Yoshinaka, drums They were formed in 2014 when Noma was 11 and the brothers were 12 and 14 respectively. They were all playing at a talent fair for young musicians in their hometown, when one of the music scouts noticed them, had a hunch and suggested they play together. Most of their current youtube catalogue is fan-made live video footage, much of it at the Hard Rock Café in Fukuoka. There are also a few clips from their one tour in the U.S., when they played Austin and Los Angeles. They are all phenomenal talents, but the big draw has been Noma, known by her first name Haruka or by her stage name Hal-Ca. She has been likened to a reincarnation of Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan all in one. Even in the Japanese scene, with its overload of extraordinarily technical shredders, she stands out. She also writes most of the band’s music. Miyu is a virtuoso on the bass, plays both 4-string and 7-string, and has his own shred solos in a number of their songs. Never heard of Asterism? But now you have learned about him and met Hal-Ca (Haruka Noma) - the most gifted guitarist - wunderkind in the world of the last decade. She is 16 in the video. Outstanding composition with an epic solo is "Dawn". Весьма одарённая девушка. Причём в избытке, по самую макушку. И ещё утрамбовано сверху чтобы больше влезло. Многие музыкальные критики называют её сильнейшей гитаристкой мира. По факту нельзя назвать ни одного имени, равного ей по харизме, эмоциональности и технике игры. Синтез Сатриани, Вая, Мальмстина и тд. Шред-гитаристка. Cейчас ей 19 лет. Свою группу, Астеризм, создала в 11 лет. На данный момент выпущено несколько студийных альбомов.

The odd look of the bass player is because he is essentially a co-lead instrument, so his playing is a lot more active and intricate than typical bass. With only three instruments and no vocals, there is a lot of musical space to fill.

Well, you may try your luck and ask them if they want you 😉 Asterism in general is an instrumental band, all of their songs on their so far 2 released albums are. Though they recently did two songs where Hal-Ca, the guitarist, sings too. They are still so incredibly young (19, 20, 22) but also incredibly good and doing this for a couple of years now. Hal-Ca, out of all that fantasticly good japanese guitarists, is propably my favorite now. Please watch their newer songs "Church", "Then&now" or the must-see "Dawn". Thanks.

Sweep-picking on the bass, with his thumb, just wait till you see what he does with his 7-string... Yeah, Asterism's ludicrously good. "Dawn" is *the* song, but you might also want to look at "Scuttle Buttin'", doing a SRV cover is daunting at best, and HAL-CA, miyu and mio do it proud (imo). Other than that... Gunfire (simply awesome), Church (that bass), Rising Moon (because MV), anything else they've done...

I have seen a few recent live clips of them doing their own singing but it is still a bit rough. Their recent CD Guernica +a is pretty good and there are video's of them in the studio live (Stars, Gunfire, Church and a few others I believe).

Nice choice. I don't think they get nearly enough attention. They played a bunch of small gigs in and around Ausin, Texas during SXSW in 2019. I was lucky enough to see them in a small club in L.A., just before they headed back to Japan. Those are their only US shows so far. Their most recent releases, 'GUERNICA" and 'GUERNICA + a', are their most progressive so far. Some folks were concerned when they signed with Amuse, Inc. (home of BABYMETAL, Perfume, etc.) that they would get more commercial. Instead they've become more experimental. And HAL-CA has more Rock 'n' Roll attitude in one finger than a lot of full bands do. Although they are primarily instrumental, they've done some collaborations with Metal singers, and they're starting to do some singing of their own on some of their newer, unreleased songs.

That right there is one of the most talented Bassists Miyu. The style he used was "sweet picking" with Bass. You don't see it often, because it is very difficult.

Hal-Ca is my favorite guitarist! Asterism is my favorite trio band! The talent is great here!

I have purchased all their albums and EP's and they are incredible musicians . They have a Wikipedia page . Live studio performances have great sound quality . Fancam footage from club concerts , the sound quality is not that great . " Dawn " still my favourite .

This performance is a few years old. They are even better now, with more sophisticated compositions.

If Asterism visit your city, you may try your luck and contact them for collaboration, as far as I know, Asterism has tradition to covers local music when they do concert outside Japan, in US concerts they covers Stevie Ray Vaugh's Scuttle Buttin', and they do the same when they playing at South Korea and China... Hello @Anastasia, please check out a japanese band called Dir En Grey, they one of the biggest in Japan, all the musicians are virtuosos and their vocalist called Kyo has a 6 octave vocal range, possibly even higher, up to the 8th octave. His clean vocals are absolutely amazing, and he's mastered every type of growl and scream. He's known to switch voices completely mid-song or even mid-sentence. His voice bottoms at A1, and he's hit into the 8th and possibly 9th octave live (debated on whether or not falsetto and whistle notes count, but he belted out the G#7 from the diaphragm). They DO need a singer! But you'll not convince them of that! They're amazing, but purely instrumental music gets really old really fast, no matter how good it is (with the possible exception of orchestral classical music).

At last you reacted to Asterism! 😀 This is not one of their best recordings to be honest but then again they've been stuck down playing these tiny little club gigs for a long time (as one reactor put it, "playing in Babymetal's basement") and these are mostly fan-cam recordings. In the last year they signed up with Amuse (Babymetal's agency) so perhaps now, with a bit of financial backing behind them, they might gain the exposure their talent clearly deserves. Don't be cradle snatching Anastasia! Hal-ca might be sexy but she was only sixteen in this video! The whole "do they need a singer?" thing is a bit of a controversy around this band. On the one hand the purists who love them as an instrumental band say a singer would ruin their uniqueness. On the other hand the band themselves don't seem averse to the idea since they've had a couple of guest vocalists and Hal-Ca has tried her hand at vocals too. I'm not sure about Hal-Ca on vocals in truth. She's far better sticking with the guitar. She can make that old Yamaha sing just dandy. Personally I think that a singer could bring a new dimension to the band but it would have to be a damn good and powerful one; somebody, if I may be so bold, as good as you in fact. Give them a bell. I think you'd have the voice and charisma to front this band. They're familiar with the US as well since they've already toured in the USA albeit in small clubs and venues.
