@@lucasyoshikawa5933 He has a permanent effect because he fell into the Cauldron (without burning himself apparently) when he was a kid. That's the reasons that's always given. Getafix (Panoramix in the original version) always says: "No Obelix, you don't need to drink potion, it's effect are permanent on you, you fell into it as a kid remember ?" But no further details have ever been given since this is a comic series is driven by cartoon logic so trying to explain cartoon druidic magic rationnaly would be stupid. My headcanon however is that while drinking the potion give you it's effect temporarily, kid Obelix got got covered in it (and probably halfway drowned) from head to toe for a while before we could get him out of the cauldron, meaning that he "absorbed" the potion like a sponge and it's now part of his system. Re-drinking the potion while already under it's effect does not turn you into stone however *as long as the amount you re-drink is very small.*

@@clementcachico5240 since he can drink a full bowl of it without draw back at one point and that he needed a full cauldron again to turn to stone it also means there is an upper limit to get turned to stone. also my head cannon is that the more you drink the more your body becomes hard from an increase of mass since it would be needed for your muscles to become stronger and also make you nearly impervious to anything, if you take in enough its simply that too much mass is added to a limited amount of space and turns you into a rock-like substance until the effect runs out (or until someone finds a way to remove the powers from you)

Fun fact for non-french audiences: the trumpets at 0:17 are a reference to a really popular show in France, "Kaamelott". It's a parody about the tales of the knights of the round table, and main actor (in the role of king Arthur) / writer Alexandre Astier is one of the producers of this movie.

Whose french name is Oursenplus, a pun on "teddy bear"; his voice actor, Alexandre Astier, plays Arthur in the aforementioned Kaamelott, and Arthur means bear in... I think Latin? I can't remember, but it means bear. The man is famous in France for his oh-so clever writing. His series has become almost a cultural conerstone here. Sadly, most of his humor only speaks to French people, and can't be easily translated, if at all.

demonix and getafix backstory is pretty interisting honestly how demonix actually won the competition with not a flashy magic but a practical magic yet he turned little mad in the end and how getafix improved him self to be more practical with his magic and demonix on other hand ended up teaching the red hair guy a flashy spell insted i wonder if getafix would have trusted red hair guy with his potion recipe if he showed his berry separation magic

The first sip made him fireproof - the whole cauldron made him a living volcano. And the problem is... remember what happened the last time someone drank an entire cauldron of magic potion? You know, a LONG time ago? The effects of the potion became PERMANENT. And since the base for the volcano potion is the very same as the magic potion...

Heres the Facts about this Movie: 1- It is absolutly Great! 2- All Dubs shown they actually Care to do an amazing Job. 3- But as much I love the English dub, the movie was originally Frenched so sometimes it doesnt match the lip sync, wich is a shame because I know it would be good. But I love this movie anyways.

Exactly. While admittedly, he did have a point with the blinding potion, in that there’s a good chance it will backfire on them, he doesn’t have a valid point for the speed potion. He just blatantly insults the guy. As for the growth potion, he just kicks the cauldron out through the window, which just bites them in the ass later on. As suggested in the comments, the best solution would be to combine the speed potion with the growth potion. How would a Roman legion take down super fast giants?

I have a theory of why he could drink and be around hot things and why he gained powers. His name in French og was sulfurix and he was using it I believe, that pouch. That plus the other items must have switched it around so that the potion which gave gauls superhuman abilities which the potion base must conduit the potion and what the last ingredient is an element that will give powers corresponding of the element, ie sulfur is combustible
