I'm just happy that we're being provided with videos of this gorgeous new car. Thanks autocar, we honestly do appreciate you publishing these videos for us!
its a class looking car, sophisticated not hung up to be radically modern. only those who understand design and style evolution and not hook up by trend can appreciate its design. it brings all the classic sports car highlights towards the modern world and further with its looks, paint and leather interior feel, all major ingredience since early astons. i want one NOW
i completely agree. i even emailed aston themselves saying something along the lines of "i've been on your website, done tonnes of research but i cant see the difference" db9 is meant to be the comfy one, dbs is meant to to be the fast one (but not now because of this vanquish), virage is the middle one. vantage is the baby one, (but not now because of the v12...) the one77 and zagato are special ones, those are easy to understand, and the cygnet is the toyota they sell to help their co2 targets
That's a valid point I guess, although I seriously doubt the majority of the owners or potential buyers will care very much about sharing a platform, if they are aware of it in the first place. I think stepping up in the product range in itself is a far more decisive factor. You know, showing your friends you're doing even better than before.
Thats true! Chris is numer 1 for sure. But Steve is bloody amazing as well. Its a well deserved number 2 spot for him, and there is nothing wrong in being number 2!!
hey aston your missing one, come to massachusetts for pot hole and shock absorbing work! if it can handle here and still be comfortable it can pull it off anywhere.
yes. i work for a main bmw dealership. last tuesday we had a delevery of 1.2,3 series and a demo M6 when unloading them i was thinking about how alike they are. i remember a while ago when i first started there they each had there own charistics. now they seem to be copying one another
AM has the Vantage, DB9 and Rapide in different guises to choose from and a 4x4 is being planned under the Lagonda name. I'm not even counting the Cygnet. How is that different from the Porsche approach? Why wouldn't a Vantage driver upgrade to, let's say, a Virage?
I think you will be able to get most out of the car and enjoy it more than an F12 or Aventador. I have a feeling it will be more satisfying overall. It had also better be cheaper too.
Aston Martin has done the right thing by NOT doing the power race that every manufacture is doing; Mercedes, BMW, Lamborghini etc. I have driven a 530bhp Jaguar XKR-75 and believe me, that is shit fast. Anything more than 600bhp is just nuts and quite frankly not usable. Yes power is massive part of the equation but its not the be all and end all. Its about handling, style and grace. Aston has plenty of those. So well done for such a small company of highly talented individuals.
Bentley and premier Mercedes? What the hell are you talking about? Astons have always been sporty. They've turned their head towards racing and developing race-inspired and race-derived cars for the last decade or so. Even though racing has always been important fo Aston Martin. Everyone and their sister fell in love with the DBR9, I still think it's the baddest, most brutal and attractive GT1 car the world has seen. Astons are still exquisite, and they don't compete with hypercars, at all.
Anyone who doesnt just blindly "love" one brand no matter what would agree. They look IMO even too much alike. They look good but are difficult to distinguish unless youre are very familiar with each models. There is more and more of this each year in the car industry.
it seems like you need plenty of other cars in the garage to fully appriciate this cars potential. If I had that money Id buy a 458 but for an all around GT car, this is almost impossible to beat unless all you care about are numbers.
That's an interesting view actually. I think a car with a steady look for a longer period of time will depreciate slower than a car from a brand that changes their models radically every few years. Example: Ferrari 430 and the Enzo are outdated by the 458.
If you are somebody complaining about Aston's power, than you don't get the point of Aston's cars at all. 500+ bhp is already extremely fast and is believed to be fast enough for a road car. People who want to go even faster than that buy an Italian sportscar to take it to track. The point of Aston is to have a fast, but elegant road car.
i wasnt saying all cars look the same.. was just saying that the range of cars that aston martin offer look identical. im not trying to start an argument btw.. but its just my opinion on the matter..
I was head first into the One-77 even before they launched it. Just a I knew about the Huayra before they launched it, and the Aventador, and the McLaren P1, and this Vanquish... and nearly every sports car, super car or (yes) hyper car the car world has been expecting. You're a kid. The One-77 doesn't compete. It wasn't meant to compete. It was supposed to be the ultimate Aston, not a marketing stunt. And Aston Martins are super tourers, they're nothing like Bentley.
Rather than comparing it to Aventador or F12, I'd prefer Mercedes CL63 as its direct rival. Both has around the same amount of power, the CL63 is bigger and slower and doesn't handle as sharp as the Vanquish. But Vanquish is much more expensive, but in trade it's got better styling and (I think) better interior.
They're not in the same market as the McLaren or Pagani. Excellence isn't measured by outright performance, unless that's your goal. I think Aston is trying to be the best grand tourer with a basic design and a few varieties to choose from, depending on whether you're more sports or comfort minded.
This IS based on the Virage, which was based on the DBS, which was based on the DB9. Saying "all" cars look the same is idiotic. Sure some do look similar but I never have any trouble distinguishing them. Sure all Audi's look the same but guess what, it's called brand identity. You don't want an Audi to look like a Benz do you? Now that Benz changed their style everyone is saying that they're copying Hyundai or vice versa. The idea is that people always complain, no matter what.
Nice car, shame it was so dreary to watch. No need for fancy words, just passion and enthusiasm will do. Was the Aston engineer standing nearby when you were summarizing at the end or was the conclusion a secret?
The One-77 doesn't reflect Aston Martin's marketing philosophy. It's like the case with the Ipods. They were all prototypes leading up to the Iphone, but apple decided to sell their prototypes. The One-77 is Aston Martin showing others that it CAN make cars just as competitive as the rest. But that it chooses not to. Read up on my previous replies. All the way I've been trying to tell you that Aston went sporty a long while ago, but not supercar-sporty. Luxury-sporty
You'll hardly ever come across a car that will beat an Aston in a race , when you do , you might aswell not even try because a 458 , or 911 turbo would abolish it , Astons are about cruising , swagger and British passion , that can go very fast , even if you did pull up next to a 458 at a traffic light , I hardly think the drivers gonna be laughing at you
How and why are people comparing Ashton's martins to Ferrari and Lamborghini? Aston Martins are GT (grand touring) luxury cars like Bentley,Maseratii. Cars not made for speed but for prestige.
It's pretty. Problem is that it's pretty because it looks like a DBS... Which looks like a Virage that happens to look like the very pretty DB9. It's not that it isn't ambitious enough, it's just that it looks like all other Aston Martins from the 21st century. Come to think of it, the only recent Aston it doesn't look like..... Is the old Vanquish
I know they are not in the same market, it was an example of what AM wants, that's why they don't have a brand new car (design) every few years. AM's mission is power, beauty and soul. It's very similar to Porsche's approach, the 911 basic car and improved in many ways, however Porsche has alternatives, which AM lacks. Porsche Boxter owners can upgrade to a 911, will a 2004 DB9 owner upgrade to a vanquish? unlikely. I feel AM is scared of failing by dragging this design for as long as possible
In my view, the Vanquish makes those other 200K pound super cars look a little crude, or in the case of the Lambo Aventador-one of the most hideous designs ever to have escaped a design studio-laughable. Ian Callum and associates have hit it out of the park. This is, to my mind, among the most beautiful pieces of auto design ever. Eat your hearts out Pinin Farina.
