I filmed this footage for Performance Portfolio back in 1994. It was presented by Dennis Foy and filmed around Derbyshire. There are two more vehicles to view, as shown at the end of this video Jaguar XJR and Spectre R42 from Poole.
I was 13 years old when this was made, and I remember to this day sitting in one at a car show my dad took me to when the car was new. Can't remember the place, but I can still remember the feel and smell of that glorious magnolia leather interior and the lush shine of the dark green paint. I've never seen one since, but that early show car made a lasting impression that'll never leave me. While my school friends had posters of the F40 and that tennis player scratching her bum on their bedroom walls, mine sported the Aston Martin Vantage. It was the only thing I wanted back then.
I worked on Virage and it's derivatives (Vantage/Volante etc) for 10 years, I've seen this car countless times BUT it is still a very special car to me, It's highly likely that some of my wiring harnesses are in this car. When I left Aston Martin in 1999 I moved to Spectre cars, the subject of the next video in this series, unfortunately the facts in that one are not so accurate.
Great longer video of one of the very greats. Met the owner of a V600 randomly and he ended up coming down to my house and taking me out for an hour. It was incredible and defines the owners of these. Gentlemen
His Name is Philip and I think he sold it a few years back. It was Ferrari Grigio titanio with deep red leather and was displayed on the AML stand at the Birmingham motor show around ‘97. He was/is a busy wealthy guy however he went out of his way to give me that experience of such a rare car. Wow your friend had one- enjoy it!!
In an ever-changing automotive world, the Aston Martin has at least tried to compete with the austere of the others, but has lost a bit of panache as a result. Don’t get me wrong, there isn’t another car quite like the Aston and man do they sound like no other beast on earth! I work for a company that processes them from the ship and readies them for the dealer. I think Bond should stick with an Aston. 🇬🇧
The best Aston Martin ever made as far as I’m concerned. V600 even faster.0-60 in 3.9 seconds and 212 mph deresricted. Just need £500000. Or could buy its Australian cousin the manaro vxr500.6.0 v8 supercharged and 500 bhp. Just the £30000 needed then.!!
Problem is the superchargers were unpredictable, the power delivery was not smooth. People described it as an unpleasant novelty. The better version would’ve been the Vantage chassis with the V600 hundred suspension, but the 6.3 L engine not the supercharged engine.
@@fendergibs9098 I wouldn’t buy one, but it’s my favourite Aston, iv always been a vxr8 fan, so for the £500000 you would need for the Aston I’d buy a hsv gtsr w1. 6.2 ls9 supercharged v8 640 bhp.
I’m only getting 19 mpg in my 1999 Saab 93 convertible!! I knew I should have bagged one of these when the prices dropped as they went out of fashion. Now everyone wants one…! But my 93 is super easy to drive down country lanes, all’s well. 🧐😎😜
@@stuff2share564 Indeed, have had a few before. 1982 900 Turbo was the best. But this one is automatic and ridiculously thirsty. Crazy during this current fuel (and everything) price hike insanity.
Not true, The LM was the last of the Vantages, available in both 550 and 600 bhp versions, The production Vantage was 550bhp standard, The V600 was a performance upgrade offered by the service department
@@nigelwest3430 the last Vantage was just after the LM, they made 9 Aston Martin Vantage Volante Special Edition, that could be ordered in any configuration V550/600 Vantage body or Le Mas body with either interior dash. The only Vantage offered as a Volante from the factory production in early 2000 at NP
@@nigelwest3430 LM were exactly 40 produced to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the race. The special Edition could be ordered in Vantage or LM style, or a combination of both but it was a convertible and not part of the LM run of 40. Only nine were made and were available to previous establish customers only not to the open market.
@@fendergibs I believe there was also a one-off Vantage Volante LWB that was offered to Prince Charles, but it was declined as it wasn't thought to be good form for the future King to be driving around in a gas guzzling 1 off brute
Elephant in the room is the fuel economy of between 4mpg and 15mpg at best as reported by some owners. Not a car for anyone but the very wealthy. The brand wasn’t and isn’t the most reliable. I was put right off Aston about 6 years ago and instead bought a top spec Lexus when someone who used to work at Aston regaled stories of his continued embarrassment selling cars he knew a good proportion of which didn’t even make it home without some fault or breakdown and that was from new! He defected to Lexus which he rated far more highly for build quality and reliability. I’m on my 2nd Lexus now and have to say it was the wiser decision as they are fabulous cars. I still admire the form of Astons just not their dubious reliability.
