@@ModernLifeForThe70sMind i recommend Sigrid-Dynamite( acoustic Vevo1) im not posting the link cause YT acts up and erase my comments sometimes if i do.
@@ModernLifeForThe70sMind Ane Brun has a fantastic duet with the band Madrugada in the song "Lift Me". Madrugada singer Sivert Høyem is an exceptional vocalist in his own right.
@@ModernLifeForThe70sMind Dynamite is a great place to start, she has many great songs, releasing new once a month, and she's great at concerts, people love her energy.
Bob info: Astrid Smeplass is a Norwegian singer and songwriter. In 2013, she placed fifth in the Norwegian version of Pop Idol, entitled Idol - Jakten på en superstjerne. In 2020, she released her debut studio album, Leave It Beautiful, through Universal. She is 25 years old
One who van compete with them is the singer Katerine Stenbekk in Kalandra. Try Brave new world (Live) (as the book from the thirties). Strange with all the female artists from Norway that are so Good. In Sweden we only have Skott who sings in the similiar style.
@@ModernLifeForThe70sMind Kalandra is super awesome. Have a look at Brave New World, as recommended above. You will love it ! And the singer's vocals ??? Sweet Lord above, have mercy. LOL
Great reaction to Astrid S, Bob. The S stands for Smeplass, her last name :-) As you have understood, Norwegian artists tend to have a different vocal style. Cleaner voices if you will. VOCALISTS, not just singers. There is a huge difference IMO. But we do have both. Aurora is a vocalist. And Angelina is a SINGER. Dunno if you agree :-) Anyway, if you're interested in hearing one of MY favorites by her (and she sings in Norwegian), then go ahead and react to her "Når Snøen Smelter" (When the snow thaws), the soundtrack to the Norwegian version of "Three wishes for Cinderella". I think she sounds even more beautiful in her native language :-) Here is the link : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qehdAKRYf9w.html And while we're at it... I heard you mention Sigrid as well. She writes all of her own material and she has a BEAUTIFUL voice. And her stage presence is second to none IMO. Still, my personal favorite by her is her acoustic version of her song "Dynamite". It's just her and a piano. I think that's a great introduction to her. Here is the link for that one : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Bwo6_qGhptQ.html And here is my feeble attempt of translating the lyrics in "Når Snøen Smelter".... LOL : I thought a home Was a small place With firewalls And a family I have tried to look To find the way myself But when you go alone It is difficult to find your way. [Pre-Chorus 1] It's easy to lose But when you find it The feeling of coming home [Chorus] Like when the snow melts Over an icy fjord Like when the sun radiates Over frozen soil Because when someone sees you In the storm and gives you shelter Then you know that there is a home Which is not a place [Intermission] Hm-hm-hm ... Hm-hm, hm-hm ... [Verse 2] On a mountain Is a tree I'm sitting by Where all my thoughts Just fly away And just her I remember you said You must never forget Where you come from [Pre-Chorus 2] It's easy to lose But you gave it to me The feeling of coming home [Chorus] Like when the snow melts Over an icy fjord Like when the sun is radiating Over frozen soil Because when someone sees you In the storm and gives you shelter Then you know that there is a home Which is not a place [Bridge] Who will show the way Always be there Who will take you, as you are Who will show the way Which can give you shelter [Outro] Then you know that there is a home Which is not a place Looking forward to your next reaction ! I love them. Greetings from Norway :-)
Hi. I went ahead and bookmarked it. Since you supplied the lyrics (and due the name) I'm assuming it's not in English. That's fine. I'm starting to really enjoy songs in different languages. It forces me to look the song a bit differently which is always a good thing. Thanks so much!
1996 was a god year in Norway. Astrid S, Aurora and Sigrid was born. U know Aurora and Astrid S by now. Now Try a third, Sigrid. By the way, Aurora and Sigrid know each other from when they both lived in Bergen. Try her acustic version of Dynamite! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Bwo6_qGhptQ.html
Oh boy Bob, with Aurora, Angelina and Astris S you have just started your Norse female vocalists journey. You're still at letter A :) There are many more who write their own material and shine. Girl in Red for instance is all over the place in talkshows and doing gigs. I have easily 30-40 more names for you. I second Tom's suggestions below. Susanne Sundfør is by many seen as the mother who plowed way for all these girls with 7 albums, film score, lots of concerts and great collaborations with other artists. Her voice is just soo good, and her melodies very varied, clever, great. Try Undercover first ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-A-uRyOu4YV4.html , then The Silicone Veil - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MTz1aGXL41c.html .
Hey Nils! Actually her and Sigrid are likely the next artists from Norway that I'll check out. Tell you what, I'll do Undercover first, then something from Sigrid. I'm working on a plan!!! LOL
Hello😃 What a lovely surprise, Astrid is lovely, she is well known and I love your music. I have some suggestions for you. Her voice is sooo clear and clean, and she does so good live. Here we go: Leave it beautiful (Live at Lindmo), I don't know why (Live Acoustic), Emotion , Years, Når snøen smelter (norwegian lyrics), If the world was ending (acoustic Cover) and at the end..... In 2019 a norwegian program called HAIK was shown on norwegian television(the program is not texted in english, but I think you would like the show). It is a program where the artist was invited to play a concert they knew nothing about beforehand. Program manager Christine Dancke had secretly invited friends and the artist's biggest fans to create an unforgettable concert experience. Astrid S - S HAIK (concert) 2019. If you choose to check this out I hope you like it😃 love from Norway.
Hi Anne. It's so strange that I've discovered and have fallen in love with so many singers from Norway. It definitely wasn't something that I expected when I started this channel not long ago. It's been fun. I'll keep those in mind as we move forward. Thanks for listening to my channel. I really appreciate it!
Ha. I understand. I try not to rate which ones I like the most because I'll most likely anger some people! LOL I definitely have a list in my mind though...although it does seem to change depending on my mood. Ha
Do you have a Lotta Norwegian singers listen to this one ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LzfkxexhcQg.html Marit Larsen Coming home official video Marit Larsen, was born on July 1st, 1983, in the city of Lørenskog, just outside Oslo, the capitol of Norway. Her mother is a pianist, her father plays the cello in the Oslo Phillharmoic Orchestra. At the age of five, she met her friend, and future co-band member, Marion Ravn. Birth Place: Lørenskog, Norway
Too funny. I'm thinking that I may want to head out there just to hit a bunch of shows. I'm actually quite jealous...at least I see AURORA in a couple of months.
@@ModernLifeForThe70sMind Sissel is our national treasure, a crossover soprano that has entralled us for 4 decades by now. She does a lot of genres, leaning to the classical end. She has toned down her professional performing life, focusing on family, but still in 40 years she has done A LOT. 10 millions solo albums sold. She sings mainly in Norwegian and English, but has also sung in 15 other languages (incl. maori, russian and japanese). 12 Studio albums, 6 Live albums, 5 compilation albums, 16 music videos, 18 singles, 13 sound tracks including on Titanic, The Little Mermaid and Lord of the Rings. 2 Grammy nominations in 2007 with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. (check out Prins Igor) but I'll choose two for starters: The Old Castle with lyrics by Sissel - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wI8t1F1teDQ.html and My Tribute (To God Be The Glory) where she really lets loose - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3U1TzCz5ufA.html .
There are so many fine singers and musicians in Norway. Many of them sings only in Norwegian and are therefore not so famous abroad. But they are big artists in Norway. Try out Odd Nordstoga and Ingebjørg Bratland. They sing in their own dialect which is one of many in Norway. They both have many beautiful songs, but here is one with the two of them together. It's a cover of Ry Cooders "Across the Borderline" called "Landet imot nord" which means the country towards the North. It's a live version from a fundraising for the Fillipines in 2013. It's very beautiful. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-F_lkY6n-ZHQ.html
LOve you reaction to Astrid S Bob, she is one of my favorites who writes most of her material and has quite a catalog by now. In 2021 she was not that productive since she was asked to do the lead role as Cinderella in a new movie, which she did very well, top critics. In December she released a new song - Pretty - which she did with another popular singer songwriter - Dagny. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-niaMHbhsV5E.html it's very ... pretty and catchy. Love it.
