To reduce the weight and make it last longer in storage. The heavier something is, the more energy it takes to get it to orbit. The more energy it takes, the more it costs. Lighter food = cheaper to get to orbit. They recycle the water on the station, and ship it up separately in tanks on the resupply vessels.

The micro gravity physics are so trippy to watch, it looks like a lot of fun though, although you're very limited at times due to the environment and not able to treat situations like here on earth. It's amazing that even eating becomes a tricky task.

I Never knew watching someone eat an asparagus can be so... Fascinating.

They got a lot of of bigger plastic bags to mix the food instead of mixing it in the small foodbag..and it can be mixed in the toilet section..thats made for keeping a mess away from important stuff. Where there is a will..there is a way =) we sould contact elon musk..to bring up a kitchen/eating department for the station. Its good for the long term..with a few plastic bags to mix food in, no worrys about floating edibles..etc. Good food will make the heros stay floating.

Imagine floating around then smashing into a piece of equipment and knocking out the life support

in my mind I can imagine a 2 layer bag , where everything could be pushed in from one end, mixed in the middle, and pushed out of the other end. Also I guess you would have to mix the same type of meal in such a bag, so you dont get flavor contamination. And lets make sure our astronauts are happy up there, send that food up there well seasoned! the last thing they need to be thinking about while there fixing some superspace centrifuge thingy, is how bland their tuna sandwich was! seriously!!!

They need a framed mixing bag that they can place the individual containers in one at a time and empty them then mix them together and eat them.
