I just found this and it's incredibly helpful; thanks so much! I hadn't bothered with much of the automation (aside from canisters and a bit of use with the arm) so far, but this really opened it up for me. Hope you're having fun with the CHEER update if you're still playing! :)
Thanks. It has been a long, long time since I have played Astroneer but having seen all of the new equipment I was enticed to go back to it. But I do see that some things have still not changed, which is why I am here. Why can they never give clear instructions of how to operate equipment? I don't expect them to show what I can do with the items but please, give us some basics like how to connect . . .
Hey, this helped a lot! I needed a way to streamline my fuel farm on Calidor so production doesn't halt once the sun goes down: now I have a battery bank that kicks on the self-loading coal generators when the cells are dry/off when they're full, AND an ammonium autoharvester!
You solved my frustrations by telling me I could pick up that yellow cross... Damn that eluded me and I was what is this crap power sensor thing... Thanks for a good and simple intro to how it works, without spoiling best setups and stuff.
Good Info. Note: If you had connected to the platform rather than the individual fireworks, you could have launched them all. Creative mode was introduced a couple of updates ago. P.S. Spelling "Beginner" incorrectly on thumbnail is an interesting way to get viewer count up ;-)
thanks for the detailed explanation of how to connect several machines with several segments to one sensor by using BRANCH ! that was something difficult or almost impossible to find out for me as a beginner, even when I otherwise have no problems with logic circuitry and almost no problems with sensors.
Being able to enable a coal generator when batteries drain is a ctually super nice. I was constantly micromanaging that and now it's auntoated. And you can even refill those generators supplies if you need to. Well then, looks like I need to play more Astroneer again... For some reason, I totally skipped all the automation stuff till now.
I came here to automate gas production on Atrox. It used to be it would deposit a full canister and start again with no outside activation, but now once it has a full canister, it will turn off.
I have a generator system that uses 2 arms, sorts the carbon from the smelter and puts it into medium cans, then another one grabs them and puts it into medium generators. Great for backup power if needed.
Wondering what one would use to provide enough power for an "Auto extractor" underground? As they need 8 power to run and the only source that gives that is a large solar array? Any tips? Thx for your video.
Use a large wind turbine and a few medium batteries, wind like light isn’t always available so as long as you have the battery power output that should be good enough, caves are difficult but doable with patience and enough resin for your platforms
Great video, I didn't even think of using the arms on a vehicle. An auto scrapping rover sounds even better now. You pronounce Terraria kinda funny, no insult, I pronounced it wrong too. It's pronounce TEAR-ARE-EE-UH
there is (at least now, a year after this video) a power switch: with F you can toggle power flow on and off. the text for power sensors is a bit misleading (at least, it was for me): power gained and power lost does not mean increasing or decreasing power (producing more or less than is used), but lost means "power network has been lost = network is down = has completely lost power" and gaining is just the opposite "power has come back, no matter how little" to make sensors useful, i will have to invent something like attaching two sensors for "power lost" and "batteries full" since the usual way signals (which really are just "push F") work is to send a signal eg when no power is available at all or when any power is available (no matter how much is available). thus power generation would be toggled off as soon as it starts producing the tiniest amount of power, then immediately toggled on again and on/off in rapid succession. probably a (very small buffer battery) would be useful that is filled, and only a sensor on that battery then turns power generation off again when it is completely full, after a sensor detected power loss (and not "power or no power") and started the power generation. attaching this battery sensor directly to one or more big batteries would cause the generator to work for quite a while and use lots of fuel even when in the meantime it is a windy day already and solar panels and wind turbines generate lots of power again. ps: i started playing only last week, and the problem of some machines to not properly restart seems to still happen sometimes as described in this one year old video for the arms, and i probably (if i didn't use them incorrectly) noticed something similar when trying to switch empty big resource canisters between "emptying" and "filling", or maybe there is a third state for "empty" and thus two presses of F might sometimes be required to completely cycle through three states ? need to do some more experimentation ...
The Storage sensor wont work for me... Tried it out on almost everything i found to plug it onto but still it wont send ANY signal. Can anyone help me over here?
You mean to say the if/then logic is that simple? I gave up learning python just for this reason. My mind was making it way more complicated than needed...
Repeater is a good way to toggle multiple things at once when they don't need specific automation. Perhaps you have a lit mineshaft, but only want the lights to be on and using power when you are acctive in the mine. You could drop the repeater at the door, like a light switch. ITs uses are more limited in automation obviously, since its a button.
it needs a lot of fine work. we need to select a place for the circles outselfs. and let it pick up only a TYPE of object. like refined ores only or just the ones you want to refine. say i dump my inventory from my truck. and a bunch of arms sort them in my storage for me and put the smeltables into the furnace and it's kinda ugly. i can't get my truck to turn on the generator i put in the trailer or the front when the internal battery runs out also the battery sensor needs a "fully charged" mode that turns stuff off. i wish they also added more minecraft like stuff. the ability for you to maybe make a "home" and do more. the replayability of this game is kind of limited after you unlock all the planet's cores which took me and my girlfriend 30 hours? it's a lot still but I just love this game to death
this is probably the worst implementation of automation in a game like this. It's so finicky and basic. was really hoping for something more from these guys
