Hello! Please help me choose a laptop. I choose between Omen 15 ((2018) i7 8750h, RTX 2060, ssd256 + hdd1Tb / 7200, ips144hz) and Strix g531gv (i7 9750h, RTX 2060, ssd512 + hdd1Tb / 5400, ips 15 "120hz). Omen or Strix (not SCAR )? What is the real difference in screens, in materials, build quality, autonomy? Thank you, I will wait for your advice. Between Strix g531gu(i7 9750h+gtx1660ti, ssd512+hdd1Tb, ips15" 120hz) and Nitro 5 (i7 9750h+gtx1660ti, ssd1000, ips15" 120hz)😏

@@prometheus5359 if I had to choose i would go for Strix since 2018 Omen runns pretty hot and you can't control fan speed. You shouldn't notice the difference in screen refresh rate unles you're a pro e-sport player. Strix that you mentioned has also more storage and the build quality is good enough.

Hey thanks. As i said in the video only the 15" models are Max-Q and that's only for RTX 2070 and 2080. 15" RTX 2060 is full size. However the 17" models of Omen have full size RTX 2070 and RTX 2080.

I found no issues with the display. Just remember to open the laptop grabbing the middle part of the display

So did you just used the latest version of the XTU or you had to use the older version? I have i7-9750H CPU. The latest versions of XTU isnt working om my omen 15t. much older version of XTU worked even thought I did not UV yet as I am not sure if using older versions could cause issues.

I always use latest version. When i was testing these laptops i had the latest version of XTU and it was working well. It is possible that BIOS updates might cause some changes so it's not working now.

Update on omen 17t with 240 gsync panel, i9 9880h, rtx 2080. Outperforming all my expectations especially with thermals even more so if your willing to tweak like you have mentioned. For $2400 or less there isn’t anything out that I’ve seen that even compares. If you are able to get a review model please do because I think you and your viewers will be amazed at what you get for that lower than normal price tag. Love these videos please keep up the amazing work!

Hy there! I just got a HP Omen 15 and i have NVidia 1660 Ti and I7-9750h and i got just 60 Hz. Also, in the Omen Command Center i don't have the max fan option. Did you perform any update for Bios? Also, i undervolt the CPU a bit and i have 83 °C. It annoying that HP user can't control the fan. I have a Samsung SSD m.2 512 gb and i add 8gb of ram as well. I think Europe have different configurations.

There are various configurations as same as display options. Are you sure that you bought the 2019 model? (all black and silver logo on the lid)

@@TechFinds hy there! the look of the laptop has red accents like 2018 model, but the hardware such as the cpu ( i7-9750h ) and gpu ( 1660 ti) are present on 2019 model. The 2018 model has i7 8th generation for cpu. I hope that not having the wrong information's here.

I just got the omen 15 with rtx 2060. Its been great so far, temperature stays below 90 degrees Celcius when playing AAA games with max settings (play in a room with ac tho). I would recommend this laptop for sure!

Thanks for your kind words! Unfortunately every gaming laptop is very loud under heavy load. If i'm saying that one is quieter than the other it means that both make a decent noise but one is slightly quieter. If you really care about fan noise then HP Pavilion Gaming 15 (2019) was the quietest laptop that i've tested. There was a big difference compared to other laptops. @@TechFinds I've bought 17" HP Omen2019 with 2070 to my sister for her birthday, and I got to say that the noise level is very acceptable, far better than my 2 Asus strix laptops. That's why I ask. I know that they cannot be silent while playing games. :) But there is big difference. I am considering now the new Asus scar 732LWS, (300hz refresh and 2070Super), will you be making review of this laptop anytime soon? (Asus Scar 17)

I am getting me a OMEN 17.3", with RTX 2080. 9 times of 10, the most gaming I do is Dovetail games train simulator through Steam, so i'm assuming the OMEN would be more than I really need, but I will be ready for the future downloads I may want. Do y'all agree, please let me know something . James

I'm considering buying the hp omen soon, I'm also into music production. The omen looks good in my opinion. Look for a laptop with a large storage and at least 8 gb of ram. It will run smoothly with fl studio.

You should contact HP to replace it or at least check with them if that's normal.

Install throttlestop and disable the turboboost. The CPU otherwise always run in the turbo mode and uses more power. I also put the power brick on a stone surface

HP Omen for the win. Much cheaper, more elegant, and it has Thunderbolt. When I bought the laptop I also got the Omen gaming Headphone (which has a thermoelectric cooler for the ears), Mouse, and the backpack. I also got great framerates playing Doom in ULTRA settings. Worth

Undervolting - I was tanking about it in the video. I always use Intel Extreme Tuning Utility (XTU) to undervolt Intel processors

None of them. :P It's a thermal paste lottery. If you don't like high temps you should check out 2019 Acer Predator Helios 300 or MSI GE65 / GE75. But if you wanna choose between Omen and Scar then i think that you should go for Scar unless you can tweak the settings to get lower temperatures with Omen.

What do you think of the OMEN 17-cb0220ng with the RTX 2070 I'm thinking about buying it, but I'm not too sure it's about 1599€ here in Germany, The scar 3 is 2000€ with the same specs. And many people complain about the Asus drivers or the thermals. Should I go for Omen? Or would you suggest something else?

If you're talking about the 2019 Omen (all black) then I think that it pays off much better in your country. Scar 3 is a good laptop too, but it's the matter of price that vary between countries. Also as I said in the video there is a thermal paste lottery with this laptop - in general it has a good cooling but you may bet a bad unit with bad thermal paste or applied incorrectly.

If i had to choose i would go for Omen as it has some fan control at least. Both run pretty hot but in Omen you can tweak the settings easily and undervolting does a big job here.

I was waiting too long for this exact video. I'm still trying to decide between Asus and HP and I have no idea which one to choose. Both are 17'' with RTX 2070. Asus model is with 240hz monitor. Any opinions on the matter?

I did my best in this video, but the choice is yours according to your preferences. :D Performance-wise both will be good. If it comes to display 240Hz looks way better but you won't really benefit of such fast refresh rate in games, because even RTX 2070 won't provide 240fps in AAA games.

I have an Omen Hp, and I can tell it's really fast, but really loud. The space isn't that high, could play fortnite for around 3 months till I had no more space to install the next update. I just bought an external storage item and it's better on this statistic.

I don't care about thunderbolt, keystone, 240hz display or even performance. I play 15 year old games but I program / write for uni a lot so my main concerns are: keyboard, longevity, thermals [not while gaming] the prices in uk are: Omen - £1530 [with 10% student discount applied] Asus - £1900 [no student discount] If you have any other suggestions for laptops that would be super nice, I watch your videos as soon as they are released, but so far those 2 laptops were the only real contenders.

Why not. If you like Scar 3 and you don't mind the price then buy it. But as i said in the review, you can have Omen with RTX 2080 for less.

I dont understand why Asus use plastic material in a notebook not cheap... by the way i am also surprised how the g-gync display of HP omen is slowly, 9ms vs 3 ms no g sync display of Asus scar 3?? maybe because the display that you tested was not g-sync? maybe the g-sync version is more fastest than 9ms?? thanks

To be honest you'll not notice any difference between 9ms and 3ms. Only G-Sync may look a bit smoother

Make sure you confirmed changes. In some cases UV may not change much, for example when thermal paste is applied incorrectly causing overheating. Which laptop are you talking about.

Yes, i had the best results on performance mode with -0.130V undervolt and max fan speed was enables in all tests.

@@AT93x You can try, your laptop will not explode, don't worry. :D With auto fans you will have higher temperatures, but the performance may be not affected depending on game. It's all about testing

@@Rareheree may be as you say. Unfortunately I had different configs, so I can't confirm. However in my opinion it's important to take the benchmarks approximately, just to get the general idea of what to expect. Everybody will have different results as it's dependant on many random conditions.

I'm torn between the two honestly. The difference in price is around $240 being the Asus is more expensive. The HP omen 15 Ive found doesn't have RGB lighting (which doesn't matter to me honestly). My only concern is thermals. I've heard that HP laptops don't have good thermals and can overheat often which may affect the life of the internal components on the long run. Which one of these would you recommend as one of them will be my first gaming laptop?

For a first gaming laptop i think that Scar 3 will be better as it donsn't really need special care. If you're talking about 2019 Omen like in the video it has good thermals, but in order to achive that you have to tweak settings.

Hello my friend! I think you may have the solution to my question. Thank you for your video comparison. I had the HP omen i7 9750, 16 RAM y nvidia 1660 ti and I was great, I played games like dota2 with 100, 110 FPS, Shadow of the Tom Taider 80 FPS with no lag. Now I got the ASUS ROG STRIX with exactly the same hardwares but the Dota 2 gets only 50 to 70 FPS, tomb raider gets lag something in the game. Both laptops with set up in the high performance experiences. I REALLY DO NOT KNOW WHY, they’re exactly the same components, why the ASUS is so much worst. Please could you give your opinion? Make sure to enable overboost/turbo mode. Also check the temperatures while gaming because it may be because of thermal throttling

I didn't test speakers latency, but that's what you should consider. Scar 3 is probably not the best in that, but idk how about Omen. Bot if it comes to other things I think that both laptops will be perfectly suitable. Just the matter of your preference about design and features.

Bought an Omen 17 cb050nr with i7 9750h cpu and full 2080 rtx gpu. I was also going between scar 3 and omen but omen had better pricing. Same price but you get 2080 rtx vs 2070 rtx. Happy with my purchase.

I'm here because I have to make a choice between - Asus G731 with 512 ssd + 16 ram + RTX2070 at 1500 € right now, with a great offer on Amazon.es... - HP Omen 17 with 512 ssd + 16 ram + RTX2070 at 1820 € on Amazon.de, or wait for a likely future offert at 1500€ (it has altready been at this price for Black Friday from various Amazon here in europe, but unfortunately i was not looking for it). I would really appreciate the TB3 and the SD card reader of the Omen, but my priorities are: - sturdy hinges.... very, VERY STURDY hinges, having breaked dozens of hinges in the past 10 years as laptop owner. - high brightness display - good thermals - no throttling - acceptable fan noise Which one is the best fot the latter 3 points is much debated on the web, most claiming the Omen to be far superior in thermals and low noise.. On Laptopmedia site i can read this about Omen: "However, we were astonished by the size of these fans. Honestly, they are roughly the size of fans found on a desktop GPU blower type cooler. This not only provides an enormous amount of airflow, but it ensures the quiet work of the entire system." And, always on Laptopmedia, i can read this about the Asus G731: "However, it’s worth noting that the laptop was pretty noisy under load, unlike the HP Omen 17 2019, but it appears to be a trait to the ROG Strix gaming laptops. Well i think that no gaming laptop will tick your "acceptable noise" box. Every gaming laptop gets lout under heavy load. Omen is one of the quietest out there tho. With Scar 3 you can set silent mode for quieter fans but the trade off is CPU power and maybe temperature. Lower temperatures = more noise. I think that Scar 3 would be better option for you, because you can easily switch between fan modes depending on your actual needs. Display is great, thermals are good if you'll get a model with good thermal paste, but Scar 3 will not tick the box with acceptable fan noise if you wanna have the best performance using turbo mode. It has good and loud speakers tho :)

I'd go for the HP Omen, but it's 200 dollars more expensive here than Asus. I'd go for Acer Helios 300, but it's 200 dollars more expensive than another Asus in the rank. The Lenovo Legion that matches has the HF CPUs which means instant drop even though they're so well built... I have no choice but Nitro 5 and Asus if I want a powerful and versatile laptop.

I was looking at an Asus Rog Strix G17 G712 but.... TN SCREEN!! Both my heart, my gf's heart and seller's heart sunk... so now Nitro 5 NH.Q9BEX.004 is the only choice reasonably priced, 17" options are really few and far between.

I like all black Omen as well. However there are also people who may prefer more fancy design. ;) In fact this is a gaming laptop and to be honest the light bar and tons of RGB create really nice ambient for gaming when in the dark room.
