That laptop is stunning and I was seriously concidering it but I ended up with Asus N56VZ instead. I miss out on the portability and battery life but I love this laptop, it is absolute amazing!

Dear mkbhd, This has been my very first full RU-vid video on my 7 hour-old Galaxy Nexus. Your reviews of the phone played 89.6% in my conviction to go for it. Thank you.

Finally, an ultra book that isn't the worst of both worlds between a tablet and a laptop. Ultra books as a whole had disappointed me up until now, since tablets were better for portability, and laptops were better forgetting actual work done. This gives me hope for ultra books as a whole.

My college bought 500 Transformer Prime pads last winter, now they are suggesting an "upgrade" to these when win8 hits the shops, cant wait! :)

Yes. Sorry I ran out of characters to elaborate. My original thought was that tablets, mostly newer ones, can act like a big PSP Vita, with similar graphics (Tegra 3 is baws). Higher end laptops can sometimes even replace desktop gaming rigs.

This Zenbook is next on my list. I was wondering if you would do a review on this...and what a coincidence. You did. Thanks man! love your vidz and keep em coming!

1) Keyboard - try typing consistently on a tablet, it's not only hard on the finger, but you can't touch type 2) USB ports - you HAVE to connect a tablet to a computer to get data off of it (via wifi or cable) 3) direct connectivity to printers - some tablets will print over the air, but using the USB ports you can connect to virtually anything 4) ability to plug in external drives - this one is a no-brainer 5) power - the laptops will be better than a tablet for processing power & memory & more

I miss this old outro
@THEMrFill
@THEMrFill 12 лет назад
1) If you can touch-type, you can ALWAYS type faster on a keyboard than just with thumbs 2) not everything is Bluetooth 3) not all printers are Bluetooth or Wifi, unless you spend more on them 4) you won't be able to plug in your hard disk anywhere you go, but you can plug in the portable drives to a netbook/laptop 5) my Netbook (with extended battery) runs for 13 hours, or 8 hours on it's normal battery saying all those things, I have a Nexus 7 & a netbook, so I get the best of both :-)
@TheStuntastik
@TheStuntastik 12 лет назад
1) You can type on a tablet easily with practice. You do it a lot thumbs-only already. 2) Bluetooth 3) Bluetooth/WiFi 4) That new Seagate WiFi HDD. My Nexus 7 can directly connect to external drives with an OTG cable. 5) My Nexus 7 can last all day with moderate student-like use. That being said, numbers 3 and 4 are a pain to manage, and a cable is less of a hassle. A laptop is still more productive than a tablet, though tablets are catching up. Plus they double as big portable game console too.

Just a correction: the Zenbook Prime series are actually denoted by an "A" on the end of their product name and not an increase in the number (ex. UX31 - UX31A not UX32)

If I had to guess, it's because you can actually get the full MS office suit (including OneNote), so it makes it much easier to take notes and view other files at the same time. On a regular computer, you can just Alt+Tab between windows, so you can have multiple PDF's and your notes open and quickly switch between them. That would be much harder on a tablet.
@TheSlipKnot981

I own this computer, and I can say it looks great in sunlight, but that's mostly due to how ridiculously bright the display is. The matte coating helps a good deal, but it's mostly due to the brightness.

Marques, notice when you look at the laptop on the side, all the weight is in the lower side and the thinner part is only the screen. I think now the should change that concept and make the screen side is the main body that holds everything, and keyboard side should be the thinner side instead. If that Asus was engineered this way while maintaining all thes specs that it has now, it'll not only truly prepare it for windows 8 (w touch screen), but it'll be ahead of ALL laptops.

It's not complaining about his style, its just that phrase in this video. I actually like what he has to say and I have watched several of his videos as well as subscribed to him. I am a fan. I was trying to give him constructive criticism. Oh yeah, and to make it more fun he could like hide a box of Cheerios in each of his videos. I found it to be amusing.

Nice! People go on about how its a copy of the Macbook Air and how they're copying Apple, but I don't see the Macbook Air with a 1GB NVIDIA dedicated graphics card
@MysticalMastodon

The Zenbook starts at the i5-3317U and maxes at the i7-3517U. The MacBook Air starts at the i5-3427U and maxes at the i7-3667U. Both the standard and max CPU options on the MacBook Air are superior. MacBook Air supports just as much 1600MHz RAM. Both have 2 USB 3.0 ports. But then you add that the Air uses pure SSD and can be outfitted with a 512GB SSD and yes, I'd say the MacBook Air is quite superior.

The Air uses Ivy Bridge, and the GPU isn't that much better than the HD4000 found in said Ivy Bridge CPU's. The higher res is nice, but it's kind of poorly scaled for it's physical size. Windows doesn't handle UI scaling nearly half as well as OS X does, but that's totally personal preference and how good your eyesight is. I haven't heard the speaker in this thing so I have no idea how it compares, though I recommend headphones for ANY laptop if you can't use external speakers lol.

Marques, Great review man. I just got a Nexus 7 a week ago and love it. Thinking about getting the 10 for my dad. Question....if you had a contract with at&t that was up and you also had unlimited data (which I do) what android phone would you get this holiday season? Would you wait a few months for the S4? Thanks and keep up the awesome work!
@TalesOfWar
@TalesOfWar 12 лет назад
That 1GB is there to push the extra resolution, which while nice, is kind of a two edged sword as it can be a bit of a pain having such a high resolution on that physical sized screen without the proper scaling.

The MacBook Air's are actually the cheaper option in most cases, and for better specs. They're thinner and lighter too than most. Some of the things other OEM's call "UltraBooks" are hilarious. They're thicker than my 2010 MacBook Pro!

This is def a nice machine. Prob include cost in the videos (or did I miss that)? More robust than Apple competitors, but I have to admit, it borrows many design queues from MacBook line. This is where consumers get a "win" with choices.

ANYTHING is better than a Macbook Air - it's an over-priced, under-powered machine, but it's made by Apple, so obviously the iPhans LOVE it, so matter how average it is...

You should pimp out that UX32 like you pimped out that Mac Mini. Add a 8GB SODIMM DDR3 1600 RAM and replace the 500GB mechanical drive with an SSD and make it FLY!
@TalesOfWar
@TalesOfWar 12 лет назад
You can use the GPU to render the timeline for real time effects and stuff, but you can't (and shouldn't) use it for exporting the video. That is unless you have a $1300 plugin that gives you this option and it's only supported by QuadroFX cards anyway. GPU exporting is something you should only really do for draft encodes. The CPU is still the best way of doing it. Also the 560M is VASTLY superior to the 620M in this thing. The 620M is marginally better than the Intel HD4000.

There are plenty of 27" monitors out there with that resolution you can connect to them, though I guess you mean all-in-ones like the iMac right? If so, no idea. Maybe it's because they can't get the same kind of pricing on the components that Apple do so it's not worth them making such machines. All-in-ones, tiny form factor desktops and UltraBooks are areas Apple stuff is EXTREMELY competitive on price and specs. It gets a bit less clear cut as you get to notebooks and workstations though.

Great review....Cnet can learn a ton from you.. If possible, do add an approx price range. That would help... Cheers
@THEMrFill
@THEMrFill 12 лет назад
I'm sorry, but the Air has a lower spec-to-cost for the ultrabooks, with Apple convincing customers that you're paying more for a "better" computer (meaning fewer ports, and STILL using the Thunderbolt connector rather than HDMI, meaning more out-lay for a converter) - yes, they're close in price, but the Ultrabooks will always out-spec an Air for the price, plus the accessories for the Air will cost you TONS more, because they're Apple it's Apple policy, give less for higher cost

I dunno, Tales. We've never seen a notebook like the Retina MacBook Pro, so how could we properly examine how it stacks up? I have no trouble believing that the MacBook Pro is double the cost in parts compared to the MacBook Air. As for the Mac Pro. The thing is incredibly outdated now, though still powerful. It is sad what's happening to the Mac Pro, but I wouldn't include the Mac Pro in any comparison until Apple has introduced a model that conforms to Apple's 2012/2013 vision.
