Wow! I'm very impressed how Asus manage all the space needed in this Zenfone 6 while maintaining a huge battery, triple slots for SIM and Micro SD, camera module and a HEADPHONE JACK!!! This is the most space efficient parts on a phone ever!
@@TheVincenzo800 It wasn't too bad, pretty fiddly as you'd expect with everything being so small. Taking it apart enough to replace the board wasn't too bad, I found putting it back together a bit trickier. Those black and white cables that run down the side have a conduit at the edge of the phone that they run through to keep them safe and out the way. Getting them to stay in there whilst putting the other parts in around them was by far the hardest part as they kept slipping out. Aside from that I'd say it was fairly easily done given the right tools and if you follow enough of the steps in this video.

It actually will. I'm dealing with ZenFone 6 for 2 years now, and despite all the times it felt down and all the things it survived, only now I suddenly have some issues with it, which are battery related. The phone itself is working perfectly fine. Even the screen quality is amazing, I never had to repair the screen, no cracks at all.
So the final piece in this teardown. Is that the lcd? Because i smashed the glass on mine and i'm thinking about fixing it myself since the closest asus repair show for me supposedly takes over two months in fixing asus phones and also takes a about 100$ admission price just for leaving the phone to them, and then the repair costs and parts on top of that.
yea the screen is held on with adhesive you just need to heat it up and pry off the old screen and apply new adhesive and reapply the new one and reverse the disassembly process
no wonder even after i sent my phone to the service centre, there still some problems, some devices gets even worst after services maybe because technician are not careful enough to handle it.
Nice video, but i would like to see the phone working again after reassembled, not just booting. Specially the camera. Just to see it back to where it was
Ya should have added the camera in use afterwards. Ill see if it will let me add onto the end of the video, if not I can upload the video of the camera in use and link you to it.

Any idea how people manage to break that flip camera in disassembly or reassembly process? Even Jerryrig broke one in his teardown video. And many comments say they break their camera too. I'm going to repair Zenfone 6 soon and just want to be sure not to break the camera during process. Thanks for the video anyway. :)
Hi Mobile Master!! I was wondering if I need to change the fingerprint sensor, How should I take down the sensor? Also If I changed to a new back shell, how do I glue them back? what glue would you suggest?. Thank you very much.
Hi, it's held onto the back plate with adhesive. Just heat it up gently with a hair dryer or heat gun and pry/pull it off the back plate. Usually replacement back plates come with pre-cut adhesive. If not, then you can use 300LSE adhesive or smartphone red tape or another type of smartphone adhesive tape to cut stripes down to size and apply on the frame then apply your back plate back onto the frame.
Hey, could you please tell me where/on which part of the phone is the main mic? Is it the power supply(I need to by new on)? Mine just stopped working after I've cleaned it with compressed air. Greetings from Germany.
Thanks for this helpfull Video. At the beginnig you've cut a cable on the left side and this also happend to me. You didn't show how to reach this little fucking cable!
You would have to remove the back cover and then just remove the screws on the bottom speaker assembly and remove that to gain access to the charging board. You wouldn't have to do anything with the top portion of the phone.
Ya I would have thought I would see something, possibly a copper heat pipe but I guess since its not really a gaming phone, it doesn't really require it but would have been a + to have it anyway. Thanks!
One of my main concerns is that it's not ipx dust/ water resistant. Is there anyway to add water resistance through disassembly? Otherwise, I think the phone is almost perfect.
Would be hard to tell, you can try adding water resistant adhesive, and covering the ports internally somehow with filters like those that go over speakers. But not sure if it would for sure make a difference or not.
@@danielmartuniac9928 I'm not sure you understand supply and demand. Case manufacturers focus on the most popular phones because they will net the most profits, especially considering the r&d involved with making cases for new phones. The fact is the Zenfone 6 will sell 1000x less phones than the Iphone does. My point is there is no waterproof case for the Zenfone 6, and there won't be one because it's not popular enough to warrant the case creation.
My Z6 does not reliably charge anymore as it keeps dropping charge. So I purchased a charging board replacement and attempted to remove the backplate but it won't budge at all. I warmed the back with a hair dryer and used several suction tools but it won't separate. Any advice?
You can use a thin razor or xacto knife or something (even though it might scratch up the frame) to get it under to left it up. Then you can get a plastic pry tool in.
Most likely on ebay from someone who parted one out or buying a used one with a broken screen or something else so you can use the mother board from it.
Hey! Thanks for the video! I'm struggling with the lower motherboard of my phone, looks like itś glued. In the vídeo you took off lower mother board easily
Always whenever your phone gets in water (when its not water resistant to handle it) you need to never try to turn it on and take it apart as soon as possible to disconnect the battery. Because every time you try to use it, you can short out your motherboard or other parts in your phone. You need to take it apart, make sure you clean out any water in there and also brush off any corrosion on the chips and connectors with a small brush or tooth brush. After making sure you dried out any water and cleaned off all the corrosion around connectors and chips, put it back together and see if it will start working again. If not, its possible your screen needs to be replaced or also possible a circuit or chip on your board has fried and you probably would need to get another phone because repairs on things like that are not easy and very few places can actually preform repairs on water damaged stuff.
Which board has ROM? My phone died, but sometimes it can be turned on for a moment. It's charging, but sometimes doesn't indicate, only the powerbank is saying it's charging. I tried even another battery and it does the same. Looks like the main board is dying and it doesn't care about the battery level. My question is, can the main board be replaced without losing data, keeping software intact? Or is there a problem in the charging module? Like it says to main board "hey, we don't have enough juice, do not start?"
You can try placing the main board which you can see @2:46 in the video into another zenfone 6 and see if it will power on and work fine, ruling out a main board failure. All your data is stored on the ROM on that main board and would stay on that main board so moving it over to another zenfone 6 would retain your data if that main board is not bad.
yea but honestly in the past 15 plus years I have never had any issue with ESD and I have taken apart thousands of phones. Now I wouldn't suggest working on carpet and doing it but I have always had pretty static free work areas so yep :)
It would probably be easier if you can find the entire camera assembly to replace. If not you would need to take apart the camera assembly as well by prying it open. I believe it's held together with adhesive.
Those "Phillips" screws actually aren't Phillips at all, but JIS. The center joint of the "cross" is more angular than a Phillips, which is slightly rounded. If you have a hard time getting a Phillips bit to grab onto them, try a proper JIS bit.
Thanks for the info. It's possible they are JIS screws (first I am hearing of this) but the Phillips screw driver opened them with no problem so both should work I guess.
Hello sir, what happen if i unplugged volume cable ? Can u try it ? I dont't know that if the camera engine need that cable to work :'( Pls try just 1 time.
So an ASUS update bricked my phone. Now dead. No charging LED, no amount of button push combo will bring it back to life. Pretty pissed off! So where can I order parts for this phone online? (Specifically the main board). Cheers
The main board usually isn't sold unless someone parted out a phone and listed the board on ebay. Your best bet would be to find a used phone and take the board from that but at that point you might as well be using that phone and not transferring the board. Have you tried reflashing the phone with the original firmware? I know you said it has no signs of life but sometimes there is ways around it. Check on google for unbricking your device or how to reflash the firmware.
@@PBKreviews thanks for replying. The phone is totally unresponsive and isn't even recognized by a PC. XDA forums suggest it's another main board fried by ASUS software which ASUS knows about and have acknowledged is a potential issue. Being out of warranty my only option is replacing the main board myself. I would never trust buying a used Zenphone 6 after my experience (already had the Usb charging board replaced under warranty) and with the multiple failures experienced by a lot of poeple.

Hey, I don't know who to ask but recently my battery had bloated of Asus 6z and then I took it to the service centre and changed it. Now after two months suddenly the front panel started to look loose. Like there was light emanating from the corners and today suddenly the front panel near the charging spot suddenly opened a little, revealing the inner parts.. should this be happening? Or do you think the service centre has done something intentionally? Please help me I have no idea who to ask for help
It's possible the repair center removed the screen or front panel and they didn't apply the new adhesive properly so its pealing or lifting off. You can contact them and let them know.
How did you manage to fit a guitar pick in there? I'm having issues with mine and I can't even get a razor blade in the side. If anyone is curious about my issue, the phone won't charge. It originally locked up when I tried to charge it about 2-3 weeks ago, but now all I get out of it is the red low battery led for about 30 seconds when I plug it in, and then the light goes out.
You need to heat the backplate with a hairdryer or heat gun, then use a suction cup/tool to help you pull the back plate up slightly to give you some leverage to place your pry tool in. If you don't have a suction tool you can use a razor that's thin enough to press in between the backplate and frame of the phone to lift up the back plate and put a plastic pry tool in but that may scratch up your frame a bit.
It's held down with adhesive. Once you have the lower portion of the phone taken apart, you can apply some heat with a hair dryer to the motor area and gently pry it off.
@@PBKreviews my vibration motor stopped working after I replaced the charging board one time. I assume the motor is the circular thing that the charging board curves around right?
Yes generally you would want to re-apply the thermal paste. I try usually to scrape off the original thermal paste and re apply it afterwards (to make sure it has no air gaps and a good application) so I use the original one since thermal paste vary in conductivity levels so I don't want to risk using a thermal paste that is more conductive and can cause a short if it gets around places it shouldn't etc.
Do you happen to know if the asus 6z has two microphones? Mine seems to record video audio only on one ear, and the microphone doesnt work entirely if it is not recording through loudspeaker. I bought a new part and tried replacing it, but it still records that way, which leads me to think that it probably has two microphones and one could probably be on the earpiece. What do you think?
Hi, there is a primary mic on the bottom charger port board (its the goldish color rectangular metal piece on the corner) and there is a secondary mic on top left of the main motherboard. There may also be a third mic in the camera assembly, but that one I am unsure.
My suggestions: - Move the camera, above the smartphone and it's okay to place it abit farther since your video is 4k, it's clear enough to see even if it's not close up. - And I notice that the camera is constantly bothering you since it's between you and the phone,. - Try to use bigger and softer light source. - Try to talk more slowly and clearly (I don't have any problem understanding your voice, but maybe not for other non native speakers. The internal design is amazing, it house that huge rotating camera module, triple-slot sim+sd tray, 5000mAh battery, and still have 3.5mm jack!!

After replacing broken LCD the Proximity sensor has stopped working. Since Proximity sensor is inside LCD module, is there any other possibility than the replaced LCD module being faulty?
Sometimes aftermarket companies either wont include it, or will not have certain rubber gaskets around the proximity sensor preventing too much light hitting it etc. Also some companies sometimes don't make the glass over the screen correctly and paint completely over where the proximity sensor would lay underneath (instead of leaving a small dot area unpainted) and this makes no light go through the glass to the sensor so that might also be an issue. These are things you can possibly look into if you pry off the screen from the frame and see why the sensor is not operating.
@@PBKreviews I should have mentioned that I replaced the screen + frame from Asus authorised service centre. He told me that the proximity sensor is not working so I'll have to wait untill he receives another part from the company. Service centre are work very slow here and takes weeks so I accepted the screen without proximity sensor working and decided to fix it myself. BTW all the points you made makes perfect sense when the replaced parts are not original.
@@PBKreviews one last question.. Please.. The best adhesive which we can use (as a tech for fixing mobile screen / mobile back door replacement).. Cuz I'm not satisfied with the current adhesive which I'm using..
@@aj_cgsvideos3446 I always try to find a back panel for example which comes with the original precut adhesive since those adhesive strips are stronger and also help retain any water resistance a phone may have had. But since they are not always available, you can either buy 300LSE or smartphone red tape etc. You can also buy an original precut adhesive for a phone in a similar size to your phone and use that adhesive strip to cut it down to size since the original manufacture strips for the phones in my opinion seem to be best and any of the rolls of adhesive I have tried usually are never as good as those. So for example if I see there is say a galaxy s9 precut adhesive on the market but not one for the s10, then I may buy the s9 one and if the s10 is larger in size maybe buy 2 of the s9 and use 1 and however much of the 2nd I need to make sure I got adhesive all around. Hope this helps.
I don't have that phone anymore its been a long time since I made the video, but I believe the camera lens cover is held on with adhesive so you should be able to head it up and pry it off if I'm not mistaken.
Thank you for making such a well made video. I have had my zenfone 6 for 3 years now. Last week the screen started to flicker and then go black. The phone was still on as I could see the backlight working but the display was left black. I did a forced shutdown and now he phone is stuck in a black screen bootloop. Do you happen to have any suggestions as to what I could do to fix this problem?
Hi, if there is any liquid damage causing it, then you would need to open it up, dry it out and brush off any connectors or chips which may have corrosion with a tooth brush and see if it would help. Aside from that, I would try a hard reset/factory reset which would erase all your data (but if the software is corrupt, you sort of have no choice). Most phones your able to hold the volume down or volume up and the power button for 15 seconds to go to bootloader or recovery settings to wipe the phone. You would need to google how its done for this phone since I don't remember off the top of my head. If that doesn't help either I would think either a bad battery or something shorting not sure.
@@PBKreviews Thank you for your response and your information. I was able to get it to boot properly but the screen is still acting problematically as it does not want to work most of the time. It tends to shut down by itself, most of the time it flickers before this happens. The backlight still works but the screen will appear black. Then some other times the screen seems to be working fine. I am still not sure what the issue would be as I have never gotten it wet and I keep it clean.
Hi sorry, I don't have a video of it or the phone to do one. After you take the phone apart, the screen is held on with adhesive. You just need to heat it up and pry it off. If you can find a complete screen assembly with frame already installed, that would make it much easier for you to replace since you can just follow this video.
You can heat it up with a hair dryer for about 20-30 seconds moving it all around the back to evenly heat the back up, then when your able to gently lift up on one corner or get a pry tool in underneath one corner, you can keep applying heat as needed (to keep the adhesive loose) and work your way around prying the back panel off. If needed you can use a razor or thin metal tool that would fit in between the backplate and frame so you can lift the backplate up giving you room to put your pry tool in, but I don't recommend doing this since that increases your chance of scratching up your frame or if you put too much pressure breaking the back plate. So a suction tool would be best.
Thanks for the video. Do you know how hard is it to change the camera motor? My edition 30 motor died yesterday after dropping the phone, I ordered the motor, but I have no idea how to change it and if you need any special tools.
You're welcome. Is it just the motor or the camera assembly with the motor? I didn't take apart the camera assembly to not damage it, so not sure exactly how difficult that portion would be. But disassembling the rest of the stuff is not too difficult but not very easy either.
