Yesterday I disabled 'turbo boost' and CPU temperature (during gaming) dropped from an average of 93°C to 73°C. And the performance still seems the same. Thanks!
I just picked up the G15 as my first gaming laptop, coming from a surface pro. Stumbling across your channel has been a god send, thanks for the tips and tricks. I appreciate the extra mile in timestamps, description links, and cutting out fluff. Hope your channel continues to grow!
@@tylerpage6508 There’s a newer model out with more goodies but if you can find a great deal on the ’21 model, you’ll be just as happy. The trackpad is amazing, I love the feel, and real estate. The response and placement of the keys are nice. I recommend the 1440p display, it’s fantastic for watching movies on. Games are stunning, gameplay is just as good. It’s great for traveling as well, slim for its size, not a huge footprint, if I turn off the gpu and run only on the cpu for Microsoft office, adobe, chrome (youtube), spotify, wifi, BT, LED keyboard etc. I’m getting 8 hrs of use. It’s a solid laptop.
Awesome video, so much information packed in and the editing is clean. Just got the G15 and this is going to save me a ton of time avoiding the Reddit rabbit hole. Thanks for sharing.
Also last question I want to get a docking station will the cablesmatter work through a dock and do I still need to keep power cable plugged in? The reason I ask is the dock I'm looking at has pass though power Anker 577 Thunderbolt
Massive thank you for taking the time to make this video. That’s a massive help to noobs like me that struggle to understand why there are frame rate issues with their expensive gaming laptop. I have an ASUS F15 with a GTX 3060 and 16gb of ram.. it has been a huge learning curve coming from console gaming. Your video has been a massive help.. Happy holidays brother 🤟🏻😎
Just picked up the m16 zephyrus, first gaming laptop, first expensive laptop. I was freaking out about temperature but after you said 90s while gaming is normal I calmed down. Appreciate all the information in the video! Really helped
I know this is a year late lol. But i just got the new m16 2023 with the i9 and 4070 in it and mine was running around 90. I bought an IETS cooling pad and it dropped it 10-15C. I watched a bunch of videos and that’s what everyone recommended. It is a bit pricey at almost $100 USD but worth it. Plus it has RGB lol
I just bought my first ever gaming laptop and your video was so helpful for a noob like me! I can't imagine scrolling thru reddit for 2+ hours and probably still not doing things right, thank you!
Extremely helpful man! I just picked this laptop up, the exact one and loving it. Dude...your guide helped me learn so much about the deeper tweeks, I can't thank you enough.
Using registry edit, I set the minimum power state of my G15 in silent mode within advanced power settings of control panel to 0%. This ensured that during light uses on battery, my CPU clocks stayed below 2Ghz and power consumption dropped by at least 0.5w
Hi there, looking at buying this and I really want a laptop that is completely silent for recording music. In silent mode do all fans turn off and it makes no noise whatsoever? Thanks
@@yashanand_eh it's kinda hard to get used to it at the start, updates are annoying and not having Alfred just kills me every time, but overall for my use case it took me about a week to get fully used to the new shortcuts and just how the os works.
Honestly man I’ve been wanting some sort of gaming laptop or pc for a long time and I finally got one as an early bday present and I’m so stocked busy using your tutorial on setting it up at 12:18am and you are a huge help
Really do appreciate you for making this video because it’s helping me understand how to work the laptop and what to do and what not to do and how to navigate everything so really man thank you so much
@@JoshCravesTechdo you have any other tips for starting my new gaming journey on a Laptop (still watching your video and currently doing the AMD software 😂🙏🏻)
This really helped me a lot. I literally was way behind on my updates for the amd drivers. Couldn’t even play Halo infinite on medium settings. After updating I’m playing on ultra high settings with no problem. I also upgraded the ram to 24gb and put a 2tb m2 into it. Thanks for the great information. Subbed!
It's funny you mention that huge rabbit hole. Who hasn't played in that way too long too many times. It's nice to point it out. Kind of puts things in perspective. It definitely helps getting out that hole
@@edwinsanchez8698 just lookup regedit for the asus laptop I think the specific setting is the registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\PowerSettings\54533251-82be-4824-96c1-47b60b740d00\be337238-0d82-4146-a960-4f3749d470c7 Right click it, change attributes to be 2 (when it was previously 1)
Absolutely a great video, in-depth and intuitive, please if you have anymore info of tips for the G15, keep them coming, you saved me hours of time optimizing my G15, and I appreciate it, thank you and love the content 👍
My g15 is arriving tomorrow. Coming from a 2015 MacBook Pro, there is way more setting and customization than I am used to, so this will be a great initial setup video as well as a gaming settings tuning help video. Thank you so much for making this
@@andrewfreeman88 I do not, but I also do not use the touch pad much as I use a mouse. My touchpad was very stiff and clicky right out of the box when I was testing and checking everything though
What was your fix. I was getting amazing fps. I got nvidia, windows and asus updates and I took a hit across all games. Really frustrated with windows lately
Thank you so much for bunch of advices. One more tips for cleanning dust The fans (both) can take off separately(of course, the tiny power cable still connected), so that you can use a small vacuum cleaner to remove deeper dust in the fan as well as part of heat sink. I think this is a really convenient design coz I need to remove the whole cooling moudle before. That means you have to replace the thermal paste most of time for a better cooling.
these types of videos with clear title and clear content explanations are very helpfull and really appreciate the effort that muat have gone into this. thank you
You're a lifesaver man. Couldn't get starfield to work on my brand new asus rog strix g15 advantage edition despite it previously working on an older computer a couple days ago. Would continue to crash after loading a save. Calles with ASUS, factory reset my computer to make sure I had all the right drivers installed. Turns out, I DIDN'T. Asus must have been outdated. Did the AMD radeon installation like you said and they have more up to date drivers. I installed the drivers from there, tried running my game, and first try it works again with incredible performance. Thank you so much.
Josh keep going man, if you keep this up you'll be monetized in no-time! Your audio is really clean. What mic did you use? Also good amount of tips and clearly explained. Let me give you a little boost and share your video! 1k subs is within reach man.
Thank you so much! I’m literally using a $100 Behringer mic, lol. The Behringer B-1 😂 I own more expensive mics but it just sounds so good. Also a musician so I use Waves plugins to compress and clean it up. Really appreciate it though!
Wow! They should have this video link pop up at first set-up. Thanks so much for being detailed, no matter how long that was needed man. Appreciate you
Same here. Before this G15 I had the M15 with the Geforce GTX 1660 Ti, and my only gripe with that was that the screen and its brightness could be better. Otherwise, that was an amazing laptop too! I am really happy with my G15 so far as well. The sleek black color is amazing! I think they call it Eclipse Grey. ASUS is amazing too. I induced ESD accidentally while trying to install a new 1 TB SSD on my M15 a few months ago, had to send it to ASUS as it was within 1 year manufacturer warranty, and they installed a new motherboard that runs amazingly! Anyway, Enjoy your G15! ASUS laptops startup and shut down SOOO fast, right? Other gaming laptops don't, it seems (from my experience). Remember you can always use Armoury Crate to change/edit keyboard lights. The mouse I use is the Corsair M65 wired mouse. Ok, I'll stop. Enjoy!!!!!! : )
@@zuhairreza Yo same here!! I also had the M15 with the 1660TI 😂 also a great laptop. G15 is obviously better but that one was what got me paying attention to Asus. Since then I’ve tried HP Omen, Lenovo Legion 5 Pro, Legion 7i, Razer Blade 15, and here I am back to Asus, and for good reason!
Thank you for this, you have very high quality videos for the amount of subs, its the quality I expect from a mil sub guy. Honestly dont even know how your video got recommended to me but good thing it did : )
This video is downright amazing. Wish I'd found it sooner. You've basically summarized all of my countless hours of reddit scouring in just 40 minutes. Just a quick question though. I've got a strix g15 advantage (with the RX6800M) and it runs really well but really hot. The GPU TGP exceeds 145W and idk whether to be worried or not. Edge temperatures are alright (~70-74) but hotspot temperatures (usually AAA titles on 1440p high) touch 100C. And I've got a 5900HX so that stays locked in at 95 as well. Haven't tried undervolting yet but I have improved airflow by raising the laptop while plugged into an external monitor.
my zephyrus g14 with the 3060 has just arrived. i think this thing is going to be an absolute powerhouse for gaming/editing, and i'm loving how portable it is. thank you so much for this guide, i think im happy with how it's setup so far, but i'll be sure to return here if i need help in the future!
@@alecpedersen7063 So I actually just sold it and instead got an M1 macbook air. I just did that because I got bored of gaming and wanted to switch to MacOS, but it was great when I had it! Also it was superb for blender 👍
Thank u so much, i only noticed high temperature after i put m4 thermal paste instead of liquid metal onthe cpu , now thx to ryzen controll and your video all is fine ❤
Hats off to your effort and to the end to end guide for this laptop. I am looking for laptop where I can work and do some gaming. So my top 2 choice was a asus strix g15 else zephyrus G15. I am leaning more towards Zephyrus G15 as it looks subtle and can blend in everywhere without screaming GAMING laptop. Came across this video and it turned out to be A Holly Bible for zephyrus G15. Thank you for making such in-depth guide. #subscribed! 😉
Hello Josh, Thank you for responding, I really appreciate it . Well I am from India, and I am not getting the RTX 3070ti model. I went to ASUS Rog for the same and they are saying the new RTX 4000 series is about to get launched that's why older models like 3070ti is not available. What would be your opinion ? Should I try to find the G15 with RTX 3070ti (with Ryzen7 or 9) or wait for the new cards to get released and get the newer Zephyrus (2023 model) with the RTX4XXX series cards, probably RTX4060 or 4070? Thanking you in advance Good day!!!
If you can, I heavily recommend reformatting your drive, then doing a fresh install windows yourself. You can install armory crate yourself get rid any bloat ware, another tip is a app that can delete apps that windows it installs itself, boost your speed plus have way lower ram usage on idle.
Bluetooth prevents the laptop from entering sleep when the lid is closed. All I have to do is to turn off bluetooth in the settings and it will go into sleep shortly after closing the lid. Im able to replicate the issue every time but turning bluetooth back on and it will again not enter sleep when the lids closed. Turn off bluetooth and then give it a minute after closing the lid, put your head next to the fans and you should hear them turn off within around 30 seconds of closing the lid.
incredibly useful, free of the standard humble bragging and overcomplicating every minute details. that you normally find in PC gaming videos. I hope your channel continues to grow.
I have the Zephyrus GX501 GI Notebook ^^ it's so good, I love it! The keyboard is perfect and all, even makes ARK, but slowly, I should let someone look over it and maby update/... it. Also getting an gaming PC
great video, really informative! one thing though, for me personally the windows default graphic settings (15:48) was causing issues with framerate. my frames would spike and then drop and that was just the case the whole time until I disabled both of those settings, no issues since. hope that helps anyone that may have been having framerate issues.
Thank you sooo soo much!!! Really helpfull Can you make a video on how to change out keyboard rgb options as well. I cannot seem to changed to solid color or anything. Thank you again
7 Months out from when this video is made. I just picked up a g15 open box and having it charge up right behind me. TBH a lot of what i found on this video, I do on my gaming desktop. I upgraded from my old Asus FX505dt and never fully utilized Armory Crate. Seems like this will really help me get the most out if the laptop.
My 3070ti g15 usually runs maximum on 1680MHz with 881mV. I managed to get 2 presets which have 1635MHz with 768mV and 1650MHz with 775mV. With 793mV it is also possible to get 1675 but i don't feel any difference at all. Might as well do the opposite and try to increase my up to 1750-1800MHz on 881-900mV. Who knows, maybe i won't brick my laptop
Hey I watched this video back when I got my new laptop and it really helped Now my friend got one and recommended him this video❤️❤️ He’s got an issue with steam When he launched a game from steam And after the game launches Steam automatically closes without any warning Tried it multiple times And after steam closes like that a prompt pops up and disappears Or random apps open up Btw it’s a brand new hp victus laptop Also I’ve got an issue too My black point are realllly dark Like pitch black When I tested the contrast test box image Almost all the boxes were black And in games Shadows were fullll black Colour bands are also forming. It’s really annoying It all started after restarting my laptop a few days ago It suddenly changed to a bright washed out colours
Have your friend uninstall Steam using Revo Uninstaller! It gets rid of all the hidden files and everything. Then reinstall and try again. As for your issue, I think it’s probably a color setting in either Nvidia Control Panel or AMD Radeon for you. Both of those software have color settings. If you’re on an Intel laptop then it’s Intel Graphics Command Center is where the color settings are. You can adjust contrast/gamma there which should fix the blacks.
Im buying ROG strix g15 HQ358t and I think this laptop is very sick :D cooling performance is Awesome i played minecraft with shader and my fans worked quiet and my degree is 60-70 around. I dont Know english well i hope they understand this comment :D (Turkish)
Turned of boost mode with the registry edit and power plan change, so much better now, dropped almost 30°, gad damn, I know these laptops can take the heat but I can't , I feel very uneasy watching something hang on the threads of 95° constantly, fresh out the box for that matter
