I used to be a Musician and Songwriter myself.. Not so successful, but I did manage to get a couple songs on the radio in the 1980's.. One of the first songs my first band learned was "Try A Little Tenderness." We did a version that lasted at least 5 minutes. That song got more requests than any song we performed at the time... I loved Mr. Redding and his wonderful Music. When I learned he had written Dock Of The Bay, I decided I wanted to become a Songwriter! The Beatles had already made me curious about Songwriting. However, I was certain I was going to work hard to become what Mr. Redding had inspired in me! I am a white boy who was heavily influenced by Motown artists. I loved James Brown, Aretha, Marvin Gaye, 4 Tops, Temptation, and Wilson Pickett. Jimi Hendrix was a world changer for me! I cried like a Baby when Otis, and Jimi passed away....... Glad I caught this video! Now, I'm gonna listen to some Otis!!!
My thoughts are with ya all for the coming Otis Redding festival this Month , last year I had the amazing pleasure with my daughter and future son in law of meeting all of The late great MR Otis Redding's family at the festival in Macon Georgia , his version of MY GIRL ,I dedicate to my late wife , it was the song that started the ball at our wedding , St paul and the Broken bones are one hell you an act , you will pay homage to the late king of Soul Music have a ball of a time , David
Thank you! I'm so grateful I got to see your pops live in SF when I was a teen before he passed away. I've been to the spot in Sausalito where he began to formulate sitting at the dock if the bay. Almost brings tears. So many wonderful friends I have never met are waiting in heaven. My granny from Georgia favorite song is Ray Charles' Georgia on my mind. I was also fortunate to see him live at the Boarding House live in San Francisco. He also had the Raylettes with Merry Clayton! She was great too. Sh 22:26 e did Gimme Shelter with the Ston😂es. GBY. Jim
Have always loved his music. My favorite word is pitiful! Didn’t realize that it was a name they called him. I have a watercolor painting of him and my first love artist Sam Cooke. I was a teen when they were my favorite artists and has not changed to this ripe older age!!!♥️♥️♥️♥️
Thanks for the info. Sorry for your loss of Otis the lol, n I was in High school when (father) Otis Redding Jr. died😢 n I will always remember that. It was a sad, sad day for all of (students) us that day. We heard it on the radio n after announcing it, the radio played his song, " These Arms of Mines".
