Remove the turn based combat and actually keep the partner system who each have their own unique overworld abilities to solve puzzles and this genuinely could have been an AMAZING game. Yeah, not the RPG fans were hoping for, but if they wanted to make it a puzzle adventure game akin to an old LucasArts style game, they could have nailed it with a few tweaks.

I never played this game when I bought it for cheap 3 years ago but you’ve convinced me to give it a genuine shot 👏

Only found out about you this week. i like your style and you got some great production values. Lookin forward to the probably eventual TOK video, even if I remain one of the only people who thinks it was bad.

Origami king is definitely better than this, even if it does have its own issues, and still not to the level of the previous games like the first three, but definitely better than the other two of the modern series

The main criticism with Sticker Star was the battle system, they did want to fix it but it was too far in development to change.

10:27 Sadly, the CRAZINESS of the GameCube and early Wii era... was probably a bit too much. I mean.. Peach is shown taking a shower in TTYD, Mario playing basketball with Rick Mahorn, Waluigi doing the Crotch Chop, Daisy in Mario Strikers Charged does the HOT STUFF pose and... xD Nintendo is like "NO. We are ending this nonsense NOW!!" And... there ya go. Outside parties aren't allowed to go as wild as things once were. But now the OPPOSITE problem is happening with _Paper_ Mario.

I honestly liked Color Splash now I’m not fond with many paper Mario games the only ones I’ve played were PM64,CS,and TOK and for all of those I’ve played I’ve enjoyed all three of them I never finished CS due to losing it but for as much Ives played I enjoyed it now of course there’s a lot I would like the game to nit have such as how you lose a card if you mess up using cut out and running away isn’t based on skill but I still liked the small charm of the game and it’s design over all plus the card battle system isn’t hard to me or difficult I was able to have the exact amount of cards I needed for a specific battle now will I say TOK is better? 100% I enjoyed way more but I still liked CS for what it was now no this isn’t me saying PM64 is worst than both of them or PM64 is better than them I just enjoyed the 3 neutrally

Haven't played PM O.K. BUT color splash and sticter star . . . I might be the minority but they got me into paper mario thus making me go back to previous games to see whats new about them and what not.

I always feel like did the wrong Color Splash when I hear people talk about how funny it was and the "characters" "personalities" I didn't find it very funny at all and I always forget about the jokey Toads until I watch a video like this

StarFox zero is a great Maine Line starfox game it just has weird controls but you can play It the normal way its cool

I hardly ever hear people complaining about how the concept art characters look so much better than the actual game. That would've made for some good material when begging for more REAL Paper Mario games all those years ago.

The plot is bad because Miyamoto wanted Paper Mario to have NO STORY When Sticker Star released he said that Paper Mario doesn't need a story He pulled a bit back probably after its bad reception but still wanted a simple story One petty old guy ruined the entire series

For the recent games they have said they stick with a system until they master it then they move on

You make a great point. Color Splash has SOME good qualities. One of the all time great soundtracks, decent art style, some very fun puzzles throughout… so WHY is it turn based? Why have they insisted on that foundation for 3 games in a row? These games would ALL work much better (except mayyybe Origami King) if they were platformer-based like Super, rather than RPG-based (because they are, let’s be honest).

2:18 I personally believe 2018 was the biggest nothing year for Nintendo. It was hell being a Nintendo fan in 2018 and that sucks because the Switch was so new. Really gave the console a bad first impression.

i mean paper mario color splash i played all the time and it broke but sticker star is now my fav 3ds game

the newer ones have a certain charm, I love the music and the games LOOK so amazing, but the mechanics are just lazy its sad

Some of these issues resonate with my experience playing Origami King. As someone who skipped the last two, I still notice a lot of what’s missing. The pointlessness of battle still rings true, for me anyway. The puzzle circles are just s o _t e d i o u s_ . Regular fights merely serve to halt your progress. However, I will say that the system shines when it comes to bosses. Now, *those* were actually pretty fun. Other than that, witty writing and beautiful set pieces were certainly pluses. The generals, while literally designed as “moving office supplies” were surprisingly entertaining in the moment. The villain, while being original, is pretty shallow when you learn his motivation, though.

You should review paper Mario the origami I think you will find it to be very average

The personalities in CS isn’t that good. Many characters are forgettable one-liner jokesters, whereas the first three games had actually characters that had different dialogue as the game progressed! They don’t even have names!
