Well this video aged a bit like milk... Super excited about The Thousand Year Door Remake though! Hope this means more original games in that style are to come. Also, will definitely be doing a video on the remake when it drops. :)

and then nintendo had to pull one of the most unexpected pivots in their history, and remake TTYD to give classic paper mario one more chance

I'm gonna be entirely honest, I love Origami King. The regular battles are a bit iffy, but besides that holy shit I adore the rest of the game. Banger soundtrack, great characters, and it genuinely made me tear up twice. You can probably guess where. And honestly? As long as the next Paper Mario game has a soundtrack on the same level as this, I don't care what form it takes.

i guess i am someone who is easily amused because i personally love origami king to bits! the battle segment is so true they toootally drag and im so bad at puzzles i always used the coins to help (especially in the bosses where it will give u guide arrows which i absolutely needed) but my counterpoint is that it is LITERALLY, PHYSICALLY, turn based. t...turning the battle stage.....GENIUS. and ik u didnt go into the plot much but olivia my dear. her character development is so GOOD!! i think this one also has the best music got DAMN. why do i get funky fighting a hole punch. and LOOKS beautiful! game is just a nice little romp. genuinely think it is a big leap in a good direction. yay yay hooray good video!!

When they said their main goal at this point was for Paper Mario to be less of an RPG and more of an adventure game, I was totally down for that, but like…that’s all the more reason to bring back partners with overworld abilities!

Imagine if Mario’s partners from the first Paper Mario or TTYD were there. Or heck imagine if Count Bleck and Tippi accompanied Mario on this adventure Unrelated but if The Thousand Year Door got a remaster, I bet that the classic Paper Mario fans would be trying to get as many people to buy it in the hopes that it’d show Intelligent Systems that people want old Paper Mario back.

I had played this game while I was facing a serious depression from the COVID 19 lockdown and I didn’t have much to expect as I dropped my nerdy autismo Mario RPG phase when I was seventeen years old and I was pretty much snapping at strangers online with pent up anger from being isolated. I had cried uncontrollably twice playing this game, the first time with Bobby blowing up the boulder and the ending with the characters lifting the lanterns into the sky. There was something in it that had hurt me when it came to the outcome of the characters and what they had faced. If COVID never happened and I played this game when we weren’t isolated and forced to stay indoors, then I would have reacted differently and been more like “Well that was depressing”, but the timing of when the game came out is probably what had hurt me internally. The best way that I can put it is that it’s like Ghostbusters 2 being a film set in New York and released before 911 being more timeless than dark destruction heavy films set in New York because of it’s story being about the restoration of faith in the people of New York, the case here being that Origami King was released during COVID 19 and it took on unintended meanings in its environments, its characters’ decisions and its ending.

And now we live in a time line where the Thousand-Year Door remake is the next Paper Mario game. Took Nintendo long enough but that and the Super Mario RPG remake sincerely make me optimistic about the next new entry in the series for the first time in a long time.

I’m so sick of being told my newer “fans” to accept that the series I used to love has changed. that its “improved” and that I’m just a bitter old man. the people who tell us we need to “move on” have never had to watch something they’ve grown attached to get coopted and ruined before.

For the recent games they have said they stick with a system until they master it then they move on

... I'm so fucking tired. SO. FUCKING. TIRED. I played Paper Mario when little and loved it to pieces, felt like a perfect cozy bed time story Never played TTYD or SPM but I saw lets plays and for the most part they both seem great. Then ignored Sticker Star Then heard stuff about Color Splash but never cared And when I got Origami King? It was amazing! Emotional but also a wacky road trip adventure... yeah the battles weren't the greatest thing but honestly felt the same that with Paper Mario, do steps 1 to x to get the most effective win, move on. So overall I enjoyed it... and I wish it ended at that. But the internet says otherwise. Says I should mourn a franchise cause it is bot what it was, that I should keep demanding the true "return to form" that I have to... accept the current state of the series The irony in the following statement is not lost on me but people: grow up! Touch grass! Go play one of the thousands better rpgs that are out there and let this series cook whatever, might not always fit... but 5 out of 6 times at least has given interesting results And the worst part? I now can't even fully enjoy the announcement of TTYD remake cause now everyone and their mom keeps bashing the modern games like they won a war of something... it's annoying! (This is a half lie, I'm still hyped AF for the remake and Super Mario RPG) So yeah... so fucking tired Stupid rant out of the way, the review was quite fair and well spoken, although I disagree thqt the battles were THAT disruptive, they definitely were the "weak" part of the game... also no discourse in this time? Maybe he is right and I just got unlucky in facing the brunt years of discourse I missed... still, the discourse has never left... and doubt this remake will make it go away.... Sorry for the rant, this comes from a rando that got suggested this cause I'm checking paper Mario videos in general

The announcement of the Mario RPG remake gives me some hope that they might be backing off from the whole "no original characters" thing, as it's full of unique toads with actual names. Also, if you love the original Paper Mario, check out Bug Fables. It's SO good.

"This game looked like it was gonna be good!" And then it wasn't. Origami King sucked. Music was hit and miss Bosses complete trash guess and checks instead of puzzles Bland world where Toads feel less thrilling than a single Korok in BotW/TotK I don't give full marks for half the correct answer

I've accepted the Paper Mario will never be a proper RPG again, but that also means I'll never play another Paper Mario

Rather than make their battle system stale they like to experiment and be creative no such thing as bad creativity

if you want old paper mario play bug fables or the soon releasing born of bread which is baiscally old paper mario without mario

If I ever enjoyed regular battles, I can’t remember because this game probably beat it out of me. I only like the ring system when it’s applied to bosses. The story is… not my favourite. Strong opening, yes. Good dialogue, sure. However, the main plot just… doesn’t deliver for me. Olly was underwhelming when I got to him. A shame. I like his design. I find the moments in between to be hit or miss. Beautiful set pieces, though. Shogun studios is really nice to look at. There’s something of a good game here, depending on what you’re looking for, but if you want the old Paper Mario style, you won’t find it in these parts. -play bug fables-

Nah I don't accept OK it was straight up unfun and just straight up felt spiteful, it hurts even more when the Switch has a had banger titles for most of it's series Odyessy, both Zeldas, Kirby Forgotten Land, Pikmin 4, Dread etc but the PM team fumbled the bag again, instead of making a game that'll be remembered with high regard for decades to come they just did this again Will PM ever go back to normal? Probably eventually Nintendo/IS will decide to capitalize on the old style like how they finally made Dread because of the Metroidvania boom and now ere getting "PM likes" games, that and OK felt like the bottom of the barrel with their ideas how will they top the ring system? Could they make something more contrived? Can the rule of no characters really be dragged for another 10 years? Even this year announced 3 more Mario games where their rules of no characters is broken, Mario RPG remake, Wonder which had almost all new enemies and that Peach game which had all new characters so far Would PM go back to it's roots or will Tanabe use the Mario RPG remake as a escape goat like he did with Mario and Luigi? We'll see like Metroid Dread and Mario RPG remake Nintendo usually digs in their back pocket sometimes, even Advanced Wars came back

I will take all the blame for it because I think I'm the kind of gamers Nintendo is making the Papier Mario games now these days! Colour Splash is still one of my favourite games of all time! My list of the Paper Mario games: 1 Colour Splash (I loved that so much) 2 Paper Mario 64 3 Origami King 4 Super Paper Mario 5 Sticker Star 6 TTYD (yes, I really don't like that one)

People always talkin about how some franchises need to change and evolve yet everyone wants paper Mario to regress? Seems hypocritical to me

Origami king still does the garbage thing with making every single battle pointless. I do not have any interest in a walking simulator with a mario skin. Just like the last two this is shit. They just added some sprinkles to try and distract from the fact that they are still giving us shit.
