Thank you for this!! I have AT&T gigabit up/down with the horrible router they supply. I live in a densely populated area with tons of homes broadcasting WiFi signals. I've been wanting to provide better coverage for my home. It's a 2 story 2400sq ft house, wired for Cat 5e in most rooms. I plan on going with the unify setup like you have with maybe 2 or even 3 access points.

After saving you have to reboot the gateway. Some also recommend going to the firewall setting and turning off the RG firewall. I have left the firewall setting alone even though my Orbi has a firewall and I haven't noticed any issues. Plus you mac address may have already been in the device list...

you set your port forwarding on the USG but you didn't need to do it on the ATT gateway? i can't seem to forward port 443. been trying for days. even tried ATT support and they want to charge me $15/month for their "extended tech support" lol. i told them that i have the port forwarding already configures i just needed them to "flip the switch". i read that they've blocked it because of uverse wireless devices? but i don't have uverse i have fiber and i don't have any of their wireless devices. i've disabled the WAP of the ATT gateway. all the other ports i have set work. but i've been stuck on 443. update: i feel really dumb. 433 != 443 lol. i got it to finally work. kept looking at my reverse proxy and realized i entered port 433 and not 443

Thanks for the info - unfortunately, I was caught in the update/adoption circular loop. A new USG that would not adopt until the firmware was updated. Took a lot of web searches to find a solution, and without an active connection on the WAN port made it a bit more challenging and frustrating, especially since this was a new house and all new equipment. I ended up taking the USG back to my current home and updating it there. Perhaps if I had found this sooner and configured IP Passthrough on the ATT device it, I would have been saved several hours of grief. Ufff... The AT&T tech had suggested I put their device in bridge mode, but that didn't help. I have also seen some posts about using DMZ+ mode vs IP Passthrough, though it seems to be problematic with some ATT routers. Have you had any issues in passthrough mode?

Thanks for the video, the setup worked for me. I have another question. Do we even need the AT&T modem? Can we just use unifi gateway? Thanks!
@IDEAHomeandTech
@IDEAHomeandTech 4 года назад
You would need it for a total power loss to reconnect to AT&T services. I have mine on a UPS but keep AT&T running just in case.

I see you didn’t change your USG default IP address. Did you change your AT&T gateway/router IP so it isn’t in the 192.168.1.x range? I’m trying to setup an ERLite router and it also defaults to 192.168.1.x which I think is why I’m not getting internet to it. I have the IP passthrough set up and it’s sending the public IP of the ATT router/gateway to my ERLite router, but not getting any internet connection...

I followed your video and it was pretty helpful, one issue I ran into was that my unifi can't seem to port forward anymore. Any reason you know of why this might be?
@IDEAHomeandTech
@IDEAHomeandTech 3 года назад
You will need to setup port forwarding in your Unifi OS. Which router are you using and have you checked out the most recent video? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5yrOkZP0BAI.html

It was already setup on the unifi side. I resolved it, found out that the at&t box requires you to disable the packet filter in the firewall as well as the advanced firewall functions. After that, my at&t box is simply forwarding all traffic to my UDM. Thanks for responding!
@6thhokagealways
@6thhokagealways 3 месяца назад
@@amatthew3t259 is this solution still working for you? I believe I'm having similar issues. Did you disable ALL packet filter rules?

Does this basically bypass the RG and all of the limitations of the RG to allow the USG to act as your router? The RG will only be then used for authentication right?
@IDEAHomeandTech
@IDEAHomeandTech 3 года назад
Yes but At&t has made some changes since. I'm actually setting aside some time in the morning to look into something I want to test.

@@fifthcylinder It will but with a caveat. Ports may still need to be opened by AT&T. Do you know which modem you currently have because the instructions are slightly different.

I have a BGW210-700. I want to implement a USG. I have a wireless TV Receiver/Transmitter pair and the TV DVR. In implementing IP passthrough, do I plug the TV boxes into the RG or into the USG-LAN?
@magnethead794
@magnethead794 4 года назад
Also, I am on 2-wire copper wire service, no ONT here.
@IDEAHomeandTech
@IDEAHomeandTech 4 года назад
Hello, with IP Passthrough you will likely have to stay connected to the RG as the at&t boxes need to talk to At&t
@magnethead794
@magnethead794 4 года назад
@@IDEAHomeandTech with IP Pass-through, I understand the public IP is passed to the USG. Do the two TV boxes still get a private IP from the RG?

will this method work with an edgerouter as well?
@IDEAHomeandTech

It should work with an edgerouter as well since its Linux based as well. There will be slight changes to identify the right ports.
@JohnHuthmaker
@JohnHuthmaker 5 лет назад
In plain english, can you I do without the router that ATT provides? I'd like to plug my own firewall in directly to the ethernet port on the ONT. Everyone talks about plugging your router in to att's router. I dont want to double NAT. I want the Internet IP Address to be on my WAN port on my own router. Is this possible? If not, I'll stick with my cable modem.
@IDEAHomeandTech
@IDEAHomeandTech 5 лет назад
Yes it is possible with the Ubiquiti firewall, I am unsure about other firewalls. I covered that in the second video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jfxr64CVEbY.html. You would need to create and edit a .JSON file and do a few other advanced techniques which include cloning the MAC address of the current AT&T gateway. Once all the steps are completed you can disconnect the AT&T Gateway altogether. At the time I recorded the video it was still advised to leave the gateway connected to the USG in case you lost power as the ONT looks to authenticate and the gateway was passing that through the USG somehow.

I'm also curious. However, it looks like IP Passthrough assigns the external IP directly to a MAC residing on the LAN interface. This implies it's not double NATting, but simply forwarding packets. I can stomach this--but I'd rather have not have the ATT gateway connected at all. The eap-proxy hack also doesn't sound like a good idea... still researching.
@IDEAHomeandTech
@IDEAHomeandTech 5 лет назад
@@thefirstbrianmiller Thanks for the feedback! Let me know if you find a better alternative I'd be interested to see what's out there now as I've stopped looking since doing the eap-proxy method.

@@IDEAHomeandTech With the eap-proxy method, have you had any problem during a power cycle of the ONT and router? Any order of power-up issues?
@IDEAHomeandTech

I haven't because mine is on a UPS along with my Dell R510 server. I haven't tested power failure but when I was setting it up there was some trial and error where I just hooked the AT&T RG back up and restarted eap-proxy

Never store passwords in plain text in notepad 😂 It’s not a store for sensitive data. Use something else like Bitwarden.

IDEA Home Automation 👌🏻 I thought I heard in the video you say “it was a good idea” on the heels of mentioning use of notepad for sensitive information. Whatever the case, thanks for the knowledge share. I believe you helped me once on reddit so I’m certainly not trying to come off as criticizing!
@IDEAHomeandTech
@IDEAHomeandTech 5 лет назад
I didn't take it that way. You actually raise an interesting topic about password managers. I may have explained it poorly but I was referring to using notepad to store your information during implementation instead of having to type it out and having to worry about mistakes in you file by doing a copy paste. Maybe I'll do a video on the benefits of Lastpass, Bitwarden and Keypass.
