Easily one of the best metal bands of all time. Fantastic show, so much emotion and aggression. It's a shame we have to live with the guilt of having created metalcore.

Sucks that metalcore gave way to some incredible musicians like Nick Hippa and Jordan Mancino of As I Lay Dying who are generally tighter live musicians. At the Gates is an awesome band, but it’s pretty shitty to discredit the talent present within at least of few of the metalcore greats.

@@djentrification1631 Oh yeah, melodic metalcore of the early 2000s is great sometimes. But the fans do not care nor appreciate good music, and the artists lack originality, along with a lot of bands sounding way too similar with the bad production. A lot of the songwriting is just downright awful and predictable in the verse chorus verse format. Not to mention the use of breakdowns to fill in for good riffs. I'll admit Killswitch Engage, All that remains, BFMV, and AILD have a few good albums.

@@g1oomybear Fusion between hardcore and metal. Melodic metalcore resembles a lot of melodic death metal, At The Gates being a huge influence for a lot of the bands, but often are distinguished by metalcore having breakdowns and being more punk. I don't understand why people hate it.

I was there, and before they announced that they were coming back together we thought we would never get to see these legends. Saw them three times that summer, and now i saw them again two days ago in my hometown for fucking free since my town has a festival atm. They were as good two days ago as they were at wacken -08 =) Nice to hear new material live as well.

There are some bands with singers who can growl so unnaturally amazing like it just seems like it's so fake but then you hear it live and you sit there staring at the screen in shock like how the fuck, this band and a few others i've heard are just like that and it's just like OH MY GOD so damn good lol

Fuck the haters. AtG's first album is a classic of old-school death metal, and Terminal Spirit Disease is among the best and most important melodeath albums made. Slaughter of the Soul is their classic, but I've never dug it as much as Terminal Spirit Disease. There is no contesting their importance, although I prefer listening to In Flames' Jester Race/Whoracle and Dark Tranquillity's The Gallery.

WTF! Slaughter of the soul was one of my teenage anthems. AT THE GATES was always this unknown band as a kid from L.A. but everyone who heard it fell in love! They couldve been fkn HUGE!!! I mean it looks like they are from this but why the silence for so long? Im 38 and this is the first tim ive ever seen the band. In a way I liked the mystery better.

Okay at the gates a lot of my friends who love to play guitar and sing to those songs are the very best I to like to sing but when I was our band I sang my heart out to me sky I like cowing to consorts but with this virus out there with clubs and with the music playing and it sucks not to go and enjoy a good rock band fan janders

Have to commend At the Gates, same as Dark Tranquillity, album quality on the live performance, that's awesome. I hate going to a live show and the vocalist being all lazy and full of himself so he doesn't sing properly, or guitarist taking shortcuts cause he's drunk. This is great!

Cause like the big four of Thrash I would say that Destruction, Kreator and Exodus should be bands in the big four. Personal thing what you think what should be the big four. Nowadays I also want AA on the big four, but it's a history thing you can't change :( btw for all the people, Suffocation tries to start up a big four of deathmetal ( or brutal deathmetal ) tour with Suffocation/Cannibal Corpse/Obituary/Deicide. Would be a sick concert if they accomplish that :P

I made a list compared to The Big Four of Thrash Metal, In Flames compared with Metallica as the band most famous of the four, which left the genre after the first four albums. Arch Enemy with Megadeth for being the banda latest and one of the four most popular. At the gates with Slayer, despite the hiatus is the only band that has always had the Melodic Death Metal on their albums. And Dark Tranquillity with Anthrax, which sometimes alternated with MDM Gothic Metal and Hardcore with Anthrax.

such a generic and rehashed opinion, the second half of WFIKTBD still kicks ass, Seance.. always seemed a tad bland for me though. Funny how people complain about start stop riffs in the 2nd half of With Fear yet they go and praise Seance's 2nd album crapfest. Ever heard of Utumno, God Macabre or Crystal Age? you should check them out, you might like them.

I find the lack of mensioning Carcass in all this big 4 of melodic death metal talk very very disturbing as they were one of the pioneers if not the pioneers. Have you kids every heard of a little album called Heartwork? I guess not so why don't you do that first and then talk of a big 4 of melodeath.

So tell me, whats wrong with In Flames albums from the mid 90's? If At The Gates continued as a band they might have turned into what In Flames are today, who knows? The Jesters Race, Whoracle and Lunar Strain is really good albums if you ask me. Same as Slaughter Of The Soul is.

i totally agree! anything after follow the reaper is terrible. my wife is obsessed with them. has the band logo tattooed on her wrist obsessed. I bought alexi's ltd 600 esp back in 2007 in the black/yellow pinstripe configuration just cuz it looked sick and plays like a dream lol!
