For a variety of reasons, heat not withstanding, we pulled up a bit short at 9.1. miles today. We had planned for Falls Village, CT, but at the bottom of a difficult descent, we were met by a Ridge Runner who shuttled us into the Mountainside Cafe and Salisbury, CT.

Being in Maine for the summer, I experienced that heat wave as well and my thoughts and prayers were for all the thru hikers including yourselves. Great job getting 8 miles in under the weather. This week will be warm as well but not the upper 90's we had in your vlog. Great job also keeping safety first. You'll have no issues from where you are to make it through the rest of the journey.

The bugs and heat! I am feeling your pain. Take special care in this heat wave. It's brutal.

Yes, you will find old "cellar holes' deep in the woods in New England.

Regarding the sunken "hole"....you're in the oldest region of the country now...Many New England towns are founded many centuries ago. Where I am from in Guilford Connecticut by the shoreline is founded in 1639...so this is commonplace...those holes are cellars from colonial era houses...any where from the 1600's to late 1800's. You will see more along the trail.along with hundreds of miles of Stone walls that early settlers cleared from the soil to plant fields. They made the walls to corral the sheep, and other livestock.
