I fitted my mod to the first of my Light Sixers successfully enough. The difference in picture quality was apparent, I'm pretty happy with it. Many thanks. One tip for modders; if you reassemble the 2600 and find that you have a B&W picture, dont disassemble the unit and check your soldering and cable routing.....check that the "Color/B&W" switch is set to "Color" first :) DAMHIK
For uncompressed raw image captures checkout RetroSix.co.uk product page for CleanComp. I've noticed the RU-vid video compression is adding artifacts to the captures that are not present on the end screen
So I originally tried this a couple of weeks ago and coudn't get it to work. However I tried it again on an Atari 2600 Junior and It just works! and I must say I'm pretty impressed. So much so that I will be buying another one very shortly. One question though, Is there any scope for a version for the Atari7800?
The better install tip is to measure which pin on the TIA chip is ground and line that up with ground on the cleancomp. On my console the notch on the chip was on the opposite side of Luke's when having it oriented to be readable. Those so many dang revisions of these boards!
Hi, native S-video for the NES is a no go sadly. The 2C02 video chip generates Luma and Chroma directly inside of it, so there are no pins or external places to grab that signal. It's unfortunate.
The console joins both channels so you have to cut the join then seen each left and right out separate. However most games only send audio out of one channel so really it needs some additional logic or manual switch to mix channels back together for unsupported games. I've not done much more investigations other than that so far
Hey pal. I'm thinking about buying this one, but you mentioned the interference regarding the power source. You mentioned you tested on all sorts of Atari models. I have an officially licensed Brazilian "Vader" model, made by Polyvox that has an internal power supply and I'm worried that this could cause interference since the TIA is fairly close to the power supply. Have you ever tested this mod in one of these Brazilian models? Mine has a UM6526N TIA.
Noise? Yes. I just never bothered releasing the product. Basically a special combination of filters. Works on all switching power supplies on all consoles to remove all video noise
Cooool i had made the av mod on a protoboard then translated it to a pcv.. but im still not satisfied.. and now that the Atari is comming back officially i need HDMI Mod sooo please can you guve us an HDMI mod?????? I mean i already have the console... All i wat is to re buy the upcomming brand new rereleases !!!!!
wow....just saw this now! I was looking a long time for a quality mod. Since the mod from Tim Worthington is no more available I had to go with the UAV-mod from the Brewing Company. It works fine, but yours would have been a lot easier to install and also cheaper, since the audio is included. Too bad I was late to see this. I'm coming back in the future! Nice products in your shop!!
Very interesting video (and mod). Could you please show how the re-assemble the case with the cable and the mod installed? Is it necessary to cut the Jr. case to pass the cables? Thanks.
I just successfully installed this on my 6 switch. Only issue I have now is the interference from the psu just like what you showed. So I've ordered an official one and hopefully that sorts it.
This was exactly what I was needing. 2 ordered today, many thanks. I may stick a blob of hot glue under the board for a little bit of extra strain relief, as I can be clumsy with wiring. Cheers.
I installed this mod on a 4 switch Atari yesterday. No sound. Also, the video output isn't perfect. It's hard to describe - like you are looking sideways on an old LCD. Double-checked my connections, look good. The RF signal has video and sound. Does anyone have experience with this issue?
A little help with my atari2600 just fitted this great mod just wired it up but for some reason it's black n white. It has a very clean immage and the sound is perfect. Iv set it up to audio video as I'm ok with that. Any help is appreciated .
Turn your color wheel on Atari to tune it. Also measure the col adjust pin on TIA to make sure it moves between 0 and 5V when turning the wheel to confirm it's working
No point upscaling composite to HDMI but I can do it. I plan to possibly interface with the TIA next to replace it and then generate RGB then to HDMI from that
Not gonna lie. Really tempted to send you my Psp go for repair. Guy at work shook it when the screen was popped up and I think he damaged/dislodged the ribbon attaching the screen to the main board. Also have an Original PSP 1000 which I stripped by accident trying to fit a new screen...just call me butter fingers.
This is great, I'm hoping to retire composite video from my av setup but the 2600 and the NES are the pain points. This seems quick and easy (for someone lazy like me) for the NES I may just go with a composite to S-video adapter just to ger rid of the composite switches. I'll keep an eye out for the new revision.
I couldn't wait and decided to order, the store had the picture of a white PCB, so I'm guessing that is the new revision? Either way, I am excited to get this installed!
I noticed that you didn't have to chop out the RF converter. Does it still work along with the composite/S-Video? Thanks. Really cool invention and great work!
@@RetroSix I will do I've got various makes and models I started with one and ended up with 3 working six switches 2 jnrs 3 NTSC consoles and a one of them a broken sears telegame light six yup slightly mad
Hello, I emailed your support address a question which sent an auto reply that it had moved to discord, but I do not use discord and just wanted to make sure this was seen. I have a 4 switch NTSC unit with the upside down TIA chip, and the text is upside down but there is a 1 cm rectangular cutout on the left instead of the right. I have never seen a notch like this on a chip before, and the other 2 chips have their notches on the right. How should I orient the CleanComp when looking at the back side of the board oriented normally with the cartridge slot above the chips, does the mod go right side up per the instructions at 2:24 to match the notch, or upside down to match the instructions at 1:39 to match the text? Thanks!
@@RetroSix yeah that’s what I was planning on doing if I didn’t hear back, I was just looking up pinouts now. My hunch is that since all the chips are upside down, the notch/cutout is not an indicator. Thanks.
@@RetroSix ok so I installed it today, and after powering it on I got no picture or telltale flicker that video was working. After a minute or so of testing the cart and switches, the large cap on the input power exploded. I’m not really sure what to do now, I replaced the cap already and know it was good, and I was getting a picture from the transistor mod even though it wasn’t correct. Im using the original Atari power supply, everything else should be fine but it does still have all the disconnected components required from the transistor mod. Has this happened to anyone else? I can send more photos if that helps. I do know how to solder so I doubt I did anything incorrectly, and it was working before the mod.
@@RetroSix Sorry I don’t use discord. This morning I ended up replacing the cap again and the RF components, refurbished the RF modulator, removed the cleancomp mod, and tried to connect to the TV using RF and it worked fine so I’m assuming something was faulty with the mod board itself as I’m reasonably certain it was installed correctly, but I don’t know what would cause the cap to blow. I removed as much solder as I could but tore some of the mods solder pads off when removing it due to solder down below the top of the board where I couldn’t reach, so I can’t really try it again. I’ll just have to table this for now and try to figure something else out.
Just can't get it to work, i have the jr with a retrotink pro 2, composite either works or works for 5 mins then it gets corrupted and black and white, s video doesn't work at all, tv knows there's a signal but shows nothing or tells me the resolution isn't supported, i got sent 2 cables not a combined, belled out the wires so know they are the right way round, going to re-solder everything then give up :(
@@RetroSixHi, not adjusted the wheel on the console, It worked for 5 mins or so, here's a vid of what it's doing... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Uf3P0XX6dx0.htmlsi=uwl3PXwpJwWLPlef
Both composite and svideo, when it looks normal the colours are right, on the vid it looks wrong for that game but that's the camera, it's as though it's ok when you first turn it on it's fine then after it warms up a bit it starts messing up.
@@RetroSix Yes now adjusted the wheel and the and the 2 pots on the board, no effect, after re-soldering the board 5 times one of the tiny pal pads has burnt off, i will wait for the 2600 plus, won't buy another board from you
Do you have a TRIAD power supply you can test with? its very commonly used as a quality replacement supply for many consoles, it would be nice to see if that affects it.
