I've been asked by a friend on the Exxos Forum to burn him some dual-OS ROMs. No problem, I've covered something similar before on this channel (albeit for the STFM).
HOWEVER, I have normal EPROMs in my STE. How can I test that these work?
Time to build an Exxos STE Dual TOS adapter board & show you how to make & flash 256k dual TOS images, then. :-)

When I fit those turned pin headers I fit them into a socket first and then put the PCB on the top before soldering. It makes sure that the pins are parallel.

I'm not a big fan of that as it's all to easy to solder the pin header into a socket by accident if neither is quite 100% clean or you've gone a bit too 'bucket chemistry' on it! :-D

@@thetechnoshed The alternative is to stick the pin headers into a breadboard. Anyway, I've never welded the pins into the socket as they're never heated for long enough for that to happen.

To place the round pin headers exactly, put them in a precision socket before soldering. after soldering, remove the socket an the pins will be perfectly straight

I'll need to do the same actually, I mean - soldering - when I'll get my ROMs from you. So... thanks for this detailed tutorial :D

I got the local shop to put dual TOS and 4MB of RAM in my STE in the early 1990s, the original floppy drive still works but the external hard drive kind of died in the 1990s replaced now with an an SD4ST SD card reader. There's no space at the back of the computer to run a Gotek as an external floppy drive. Can the dead Hard Drive case be used for anything useful?

If it's got all the correct cabling from the ASCI port, I'm sure there are a hundred different little projects you could fit in there with a bit of software work. :)

8 months later , but JIC.. Any power supply from the 90's is going to probably need to have the electrolytic capacitors replaced. You should do this for your STE's power supply as well.

@@DeadCat-42 I bought a STFM 1024 to practice on and mended the floppy drive, the power supply caps appear ok.

Could you use an Am29F040 PLCC instead?
@thetechnoshed
@thetechnoshed Год назад
Not in this board -- for starters the 29F040 is a PLCC32 and secondly it's an 8 bit part. You could certainly design a new board to use a pair of them.

RU-vid rejects things fairly agressively, but I've nothing in my held list.
