SCM40 needs more power to bring more details out loud. Solid state amp at least 150W would be recommended to make the bass punch out and to hear small details. When you have enough power amp to drive it, you're ready to go with any other pre amp, turntable etc.
Yes they like power! 150 W into 8 ohm or above. I would not go Class D either. The better the quality of watts and source, the more rewarding. Exceptionally capable speaker, also brutally honest. I use a 20 years old recapped Audio Analogue Maestro, which is good enough to make 'm shine
