No beer? I was involved in the mid 60's and there was always beer. Beer in the garage, on the strip always. And no one ever talked like this guy. We had no quarrel with bikers and they had no quarrel with us.
great video! I happen to own the Lyndwood dragster that is seen at the 11:33 mark in the video. originally owned and raced by the team of Solomon & Rorre's A/D team out of Havertown PA. they ran in A/D with a 98" wb Lyndwood dragster with a 394 Olds and a 6-71 supercharger on gas.
My dad and his buddy Ed Bernier ran BB/GD's back then w/a 392 Hemi and a 6-71 blower. Wonder if they ever raced each other. They ran Shirley a number of times, my dad has home movies of it.
My dad owned the Hairy Canary former factory a/fx car converted to small block Chevy fast for the times , campaigned from 65-70 fun for me as a young teen 🤪
mike smith today a lot of stock factory cars are faster. I know my 2001 Volve turbo is. It's copletely stock but well tuned with the best parts. I have been an auto mechanic for 42 years.
mike smith Slingshot cars were deathtraps. You’re sitting behind the rear axle and you have an engine that is running nitromethane right in front of you. Nitromethane doesn’t even need extra oxygen to ignite because it carries its own.
In this video at 0:35 seconds you can see the back end of miss Phil worth the last name baker that is my family’s old care really cool to see in the video
Good video. I was a customer of K&G Speed Associates with the meager money I had. Chris was always helpful, even with people like me who weren't really 'players.' Their "Chop your ET" executioner T-shirts, sold for 2 bucks in the '70's, were a regular part of my wardrobe.
Ive gone 30 years thinking i have an autographed Big Daddy Don Garlitz poster with Rat Fink on it. Looked up Rat Fink - Different "Big Daddy". Lol. Thats Ed Roth. Still a cool poster.
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,The grove will be around as long as Drag Racing itself,,,,,,,,unless the fascist feds shut it down..............................
Boy, if that piece....audio voice and all, didn't just "drip" the early -mid sixties...nothing did. What fun! Tom Brookshier / the "voice"....he turned into a long-time major-league sports announcer. I didn't realize it was him until the credits. It sure didn't sound like him. I wonder if those two guys with the fuel burning coupe are still breathing air? Did they stay married.....that's the big question, haha.
We ran both cars and bikes at Atco. Later when the other drivers were coming in from the cities, we moved to Maple Grove Dragway. Then we had the same problems there.
With arm pits allowed to drip copious amounts of BO, one could also trim off a 1/10 of second at the drags in the 60's. But the guys that sweat the most usually lost too.
“Overpriced hotdog and a cup of flat Pepsi”. Boy. Nothing has changed! We can make better power out of smaller engines but can’t even get a Fresh Pepsi?
@@barryanderson6318 Yep...so did I. A few others come to mind too. We had US 30 and Great Lakes where I grew up....safety in the 60's was an after thought. It wasn't just drag racing though, Formula One was way worse!!
I didn't realize that "no deodorant" was a hot rodding prerequisite. That'll save me some money from now on, since I'm not expected to wear deodorant. Its more money I can put towards headers and such. Is antiperspirant allowed?
+Roland Lawrence I was at Great Meadows on Aug. 3rd 1964. The track loudspeakers were so poor that I never knew what happened that day until I read it on the exhibit poster at the Palm Beach Raceway where DG had his #6 Swamp Rat on display...! That was about ten years ago and Tommy Lemons was still with us.
If people don't start standing up our sport as well as all carbon footprint sports will be shut down by the left liberals. But don't ask them about their frequent plane trips causing pollution and ruining the environment.
@@edwardchascsa4191 Liberals? Um....its more of a fact that kids are just not into cars like we were beck then. There are way too many other things to preoccupy themselves with instead of some complicated, expensive drag race car. I know suburban kids in their 20's that STILL do not have a drivers license!! Don't need one and have no use for one. They like cars, its just something "old guys" are into....they're not.
@@larrydrozd2740 partly right. We have plenty of young people racing. History is repeating itself. They love street racing. The reality is it's motorcycles, powerboats, snowmobiles, tractor pulls anything with a engine. Oh yeah the Green New Deal includes your daily driver. Check that out.
I don't much like the script for this video. It seems like it was written with a condescending attitude, insulting the people in the sport while explaining it poorly.
Great time capsule for Drag Racing. Stand up racers or our sport will be stamped out by the same people that want liberal leftist socialism and won't let Trump build a southern control barrier for our safety.
@@larrydrozd2740.... he's speaking the truth about making a "stand for the sport"..... there Are those on the "left" who want ALL forms of motorsports... "Gone"!
@@Romans--bo7br Who cares? This is the same bullshit "they" have been saying for decades.....ain't gonna happen. You know what will kill motor sports? Lack of interest!!! Nobody shows up......it goes away. Again....not the format for this stupid political bullshit.
