The Blackmagic ATEM 2ME Constellation Switcher is my favorite live streaming switcher and in this video I’ll walk you through my full setup and explain all of the gear I use to live stream. This switcher is used more frequently on multi-screen events and conferences so I can control confidence monitors and projector screens independently.

BlackMagic needs to hire you to make these videos. This was one of the most comprehensive tutorial for constellation. I am thinking about upgrading from atem mini/extreme pro to constellation after running into limitation, and I finally see the merit of the constellation over mini. EDIT: also, showing which sdi output was connected to monitors/recorder was very helpful.

wow awesome answered all my questions in one short video. I run the same system just that I have the SSD version of the hyperdeck so I have an 8 U rack because I need 2 spaces for the 2 hyper decks I also run 8 converters so there are in the unit and I don't run the risk of forgetting them at the office. HAHA been there done that. oh and my Furman has 20 outlets. I realize you can never have to many power sources.
@zephanmoses
@zephanmoses 7 месяцев назад
That's a great idea to have the converters in a unit. I've found that a lot of the times we might have the converters on the camera end so I've been hesitant to stick them in cases. We also use them sometimes to convert SDI back to HDMI for projectors and TVs so again in that case it might be tough if they're all rack mounted.

@@zephanmoses Quick question Zephan please, what's the deal with audio, is it just an embedded feed on the SDI? Previously models ATEM there has been analogue in on XLR so have used that to embed the audio.

Hi Zephan! Love this walkthrough! Currently in the process of wanting to buy an extreme iso, just wondering if you would go for the sdi version with converters to hdmi to futureproof + other benefits like long cable runs, or stick with the hdmi extreme iso due to my cameras being natively hdmi!
@zephanmoses
@zephanmoses 7 месяцев назад
I got rid of my HDMI model and only use the SDI model now. I don’t regret it one bit. You gain four outputs instead of two, which gives you so much more room for auxiliary outputs, and the ability to send signals to confidence, monitors, and other projectors for larger events.

You are correct Doug, First of all, NEVER use a solid adaptor, you will be placing adverse torsion on the connector and it's now longer than you want. Take it from me, after 40 years in pure broadcast, you only use a solid adaptor for testing or if you are in a hell of a hurry, just but buy some nice, soft 12 or 24" XLR Balanced Female connectors to TRS 1/4' plugs. You can thank me later.

Hi zephan! Thank you for this video. I already have an atem extreme iso and i want to know if it is possible to change the advanced pannel with it and connect the extreme iso to the 2m/e constellation via ethernet cable. It will only be used to change inputs physically. Thank you very much!
@zephanmoses
@zephanmoses 6 месяцев назад
No it won’t work like that. The atem mini extreme is its own switcher. It does not act as a control panel for other switchers. The extreme only has buttons for 8 inputs anyways while the 2ME has 20 inputs so that would not work. Consider using a stream deck.

It depends at every venue. I’ll usually do a site visit in advance to test internet. Or I’ll rent a bonding encoder as needed.

Hi Zephan. How do you run both MEs of the Constellation with the 1 M/E switcher? Do you use one M/E on the Panel and the other on the computer? Or do you use the buttons on the front of the Constellation? Thanks!
@zephanmoses
@zephanmoses 7 месяцев назад
The 1ME advanced panel can handle up to 4MEs. There are buttons in the top right corner of the panel to toggle between ME1, ME2, ME3 and ME 4. So once you press the button for the ME you’d like to use, it changes your preview and program rows to match. On the atem software control on the computer there are tabs for the MEs you can switch between.

Are you using the Magewell when you’re not using your portable set up? Was wondering why it’s not already in the rack?
@zephanmoses
@zephanmoses 4 месяца назад
My setup changes around based on each livestream but typically the Magewell is not rack mounted and comes in a pelican case separately so I can always grab and go regardless of the setup.

SwitchRes for mac is great and gets rid of the need for a decimator. But don't the constellations have built-in scaling now?

@@movieking1997 there’s not much to make a video about. You just connect two advanced panels to a switch and connect the atem to the switch. Just like in my constellation build. Then you connect the panels to the atem via IP address.

Create video I really appreciate it. When it comes to recording you're only recording two sources right?.in 1080p. Is there any way to record say 4 - 4K sources. Maybe something cheaper than this. Or is it better just run it In run into 4 capture cards into a computer. Love watching this stuff even if I'm just a regular video shooter.
@seanmartinflix
@seanmartinflix 7 месяцев назад
I would love to see a video about capturing the multi cam clips for interviews.. I mean it's fine with two cameras just recorded on SD card or see CF express and then put them together and postproduction. But like the comment suggests above I'm talking like 4 cameras going into one device recording all into one SSD. Or even a capture card like device with 4 inputs being encoded to take off load from the PC.. Something where the multi-cam clip would just be done .Instead of needing to create it once I was done shooting. It Would be Ready for editing. I don't know.. I just think these things are really cool. I don't need it, but I've thought about a solution like that for a long time..
@zephanmoses
@zephanmoses 7 месяцев назад
You’re going to spend a lot more money if you want a 4K switcher and then you’re going to be buying individual recording units for each 4K feed. It’s easier to just record in camera at that point. Most platforms don’t support 4K streaming and even more people don’t own 4K monitors nor is 4K streaming necessary. Some still stream in only 720.

@seanmartinflix I would say if you’re just recording like you mentioned then run all the camera sources back to an ATEM ISO extreme because you’ll have them time coded and matching on an SSD easy with 4 sources easy. Don’t forget to set your ATEM control software up with the right parameters on computer for audio and everything via USBC cable and laptop. Then record SSD from it. Record your ISOs as usual in camera for backup. OR in theory if you have a good monitor like a suped up 4k feelworld just run the cameras to that and make sure that monitor can give you at least 2 clean outputs if your streaming and one to record your final 4K mix. Either way it’s some $ for the right monitor or atem BUT so is 4 capture cards and the headache routing path to mesh it all together if doing budget setups I mentioned. 🤷🏼‍♀️ 🤔.🎉 Hope that helps. Cheers

Hi Zephan. Re AUDIO: you said, the Input at the Constellation is a Mono Jack. Are you sure? Is it not a Stereo Jack? Why doas the Controllsoftware shows L and R for each input???
@zephanmoses
@zephanmoses 7 месяцев назад
In the atem software control you can split any of the inputs.
@robertworden8559
@robertworden8559 4 месяца назад
just because you see a 1/4 phone jack dont immediately thing its mono, to begin with theres two CH1&CH2 you can split them through switcher software, making a discreet two channel record or a Stereo Record, Secondly be aware that those 1/4 jacks are TRS, MEANING BALANCED, Just like a XLR, they are only 1/4" TRS Jacks to save space. Also note, they can be configured +4Dbm Line level in the switcher software if needed,
