Nathan Penny was not raised in a Christian home but did attend his 1st Communion. As a teenager, he turned to partying and drugs, which continued into his college years. While working as a bartender, he met a co-worker whom he started a relationship with. Her father was a pastor, but she wanted to be with someone not like her father at all. They had a child together and later married. They would visit her parents occasionally and attend a church where his father-in-law was the pastor. During one of those visits, he was given the book Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis. It stayed by his bedside for many months. One night when he couldn’t sleep, he started reading the book. While reading the book, he became convinced that Jesus was Lord and the scales had been removed from his eyes and he was amazed to see that Jesus was real.

@@samcruz623 That makes as much sense as, if an atheist becomes a Christian they weren't really an atheist. I know a person that truly believed in Jesus since he could remember but then actually read the Bible and realized there's no way. It's just another myth cult from the bronze and iron ages that became institutionalized like Hinduism and all the other religions claiming to know the truth. Christianity is a blood cult, don't believe me. Why do you HAVE to be washed in the BLOOD of Jesus. Christianity is predicated on blood, suffering and sacrifice, but claims it's all about love, the definition of hypocrisy.

I was raised by two people who were humble, very dedicated Christians. I saw so many people during my youth who were also devoted to Christ. It took me ten years of turning my back and questioning and looking at various other things, to cry out to Jesus Christ at age 25. I had a day in August 1984 when I literally changed mentally and spiritually 180 degree change after a short very heartfelt prayer to Christ. I am now 64. I hav been serving the Lord Jesus Christ for over 38 years because I know for certain that He answered my cry in 1984, and because I have known so much difference between people who really love Jesus Christ, and the rest of humanity. Nobody is perfect except Jesus, but those who follow Him without deliberate hypocrisy are the people keeping this world from completely falling apart. Jesus is real. He is the only one who can help us.

I'm 62 and from as far back as I can remember and until my late twenties I believed in Jesus and tried desperately to have him fill me with the holy spirit like I had seen happen to my family and friends around me. I was baptized when I was twelve and even went to the alter to be saved 3 different times in my teens and early twenties, all three times I came away not sure what happened, because despite truly wanting to be saved I felt nothing. Then in my late twenties I decided to read the entire Bible front to back straight through to see what I was doing wrong as I couldn't understand why Jesus wouldn't answer my prayers to fill me with the holy spirit. After reading it I wanted nothing to do with the God of Abraham or Jesus. The Bible showed me the real God of Abraham that no one told me about. In church according to the preacher and everyone else around me the Lord God was supposed to be loving and forgiving. Reading the Bible showed me otherwise, it showed me just how inhumane, jealous and vengeful the supposed God of Abraham really is, just read the Old Testament. I started asking people around me if they knew what the Bible says about the evil things God did and had Moses and the Israelites do, not to mention all the superstitious things we know today that are outright wrong. All I got from them is, that's not what it says, or I'm reading it wrong, or taking it out of context, the worst answer was God works in mysterious ways we don't understand. I read it for myself so I know what it says and I know the context. If there is a God of Abraham, according to the Bible his love comes with the condition you must believe he's real and with no evidence, or suffer in agony for eternity. In my mind that's not true love, it's more akin to a gangster insurance scheme. Pay (worship) me and you'll be protected from what I would do to you. It wasn't long after that I realized I had became an atheist because there just wasn't any real evidence that God and Jesus are real. In the years since, my position has only been reinforced by what I see so called "real" Christians do and say. Personally I think Christians are lying to themselves to save face with their peers, and/or they are confused by the rhetoric and gaslighting from their church, family, and friends. It's all a myth like all the other numerous Gods, religions, and superstitions from down through history until now. Why is your god any different than any other religious myths? Because it's the one you've been gaslighted into believing, and like me, the gaslighting probably started the day you were born by your family and peers. The church makes promises and threats that conveniently can only be realized after you're dead, and you just have to have faith because God works in mysterious ways we don't understand. Sorry, but after reading the Bible myself instead of letting the preacher pick and choose for me, I'm just not that gullible anymore. Now let us talk about faith. Most religions require faith. What is faith? Here's the Bible's interpretation of faith: Hebrews 11:1 "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Why do religions require faith? The reason religions require faith is because they have no evidence and rely on the gullibility of people. Now I realize it is only a myth from superstitious people of the bronze and iron ages, before people had the tools of science and high technology to help probe the truth of reality. I can't make you see reason and logic, I can only present it to you. It's up to you to see through the superstition and gaslighting of the religions in the world. I wish you well, and hope one day you'll open your eye's to the gaslighting of any and all religions.

honestly, Christianity (a relationship with Christ) is something that has to be experienced. You can't explain it to somebody, it sounds completely ridiculous from an intellectual standpoint. This is why only the Holy Spirit can lead someone to Christ. We can't do it no matter how convincing we think we sound.

I love stories like this as I can relate. I was was raised much like this man to believe in God. But at college I became an unapologetic atheist and remained so until about age 40. Then I began to challenge those beliefs, researched, learned, opened my eyes that there could be something more. It was a slow journey. I became a believer about 17 years ago but not a very devout one. Then about four years ago a failed medical procedure turned my world upside down and left me with two incurable chronic pain diseases that will give me excruciating pain every moment until I die. And I nearly did that as my bed-ridden body atrophied in bed. Through it all I found myself being drawn into a closer relationship with God instead of rebuking him for my predicament. Then one day as my hope was nearly gone, He spoke to me and told me that I still had purpose and work to be done. I didn’t fully understand then, as I do now, but He lent me His strength and willpower so that I could begin reclaiming some of my life that had been taken from me. I am able to work again and support my family. I can run errands and do small projects around the house. I do it all with constant pain but I am eternally grateful to be able to do it and not be imprisoned in my bed. Each day is a struggle but I can do anything through my Savior Jesus Christ. He has shown me my purpose, His purpose for my life. Purpose that would have never been revealed had I not had my ordeal. I have never been closer to God and I am at peace with my pain. I know that one day my mortal body will fail me and I will rise in my spiritual one to Heaven. To live a pain-free life full of joy and peace for all eternity. I pray for everyone to know what it’s like to have the Spirit of Christ living inside your heart. I can actually feel the physical difference in me. I just wish my eyes had been opened earlier in life. I feel like I have missed out on so much, but I guess that wasn’t God’s plan for me. God bless you all. 😊❤️🙏🏻

I’ll just paste my testimony here if anyone is interested. I was born in a Christian family and one of my parent is a pastor. However I left the church when I was a teenager as I felt I don’t belong there. People judge me because I was not the way they expect a pastor’s child to be. So after I left the church, I did almost everything against the Bible. Many years later I even got into fortune telling and divination. One day after work I was going to buy a book for divination, but I saw a woman who kept looking at me. She looks like a nice person but the way she looked at me was really weird. I found my book I wanted and was about to go and pay for it. But this woman kept looking at me as if she was telling me to follow her, and there’s a voice in me telling me to go. So I did. I put down my fortune telling book and started walking over to her. And when I moved, she moved too.. So when I was at where she was, she disappeared. Then I looked infront of me, there was a bible. And all bibles were wrapped and slotted into the book shelves except this particular bible. It was facing me instead, and it was not wrapped. But it was closed. So a voice in me told me to open it. I opened it and went to Deuteronomy 13 and saw if there is any among you that could tell the future, and even if it comes true you shall not follow him because this is a test from God. I know that’s not exactly how the verse was, but that was what I saw that time. I had goosebumps all over after seeing it. So I checked the bible and see if anyone folded it but there was none. So I took a picture of that bible and i ran after that woman but she was nowhere to be found. All these Took less than 3 minutes, it’s impossible for her to disappear because there is no way for her to hide or run in such a short time and in that area where I am at. It wasn’t a dream or vision because I even took a picture of that bible which is why I later realised the words in the bible were not exactly the way I saw it the first time. In my heart I knew that was an angel, I just knew it. In fact I dreamt about her few years later flying with wings around some staircase. But I was a stubborn person. I continued fortune telling anyway. One day after work I went drinking with my friends and he brought a few of his ex colleagues along. He told me one of his ex colleagues there had spiritual eyes, she could see and hear spirits. She was telling my friends about what spirits are around and how the spirits are telling them their past and future correctly. So I was curious and I wanted to look into her life with divination. But strangely I can’t see much of her life compared to others, i was considered quite accurate with my fortune telling but this is the first time I don’t know what to say while looking at someone’s life chart. I was telling her I don’t know why her chart looks so weird and there’s not much information. Then she told me because my eyes were covered by spirits. There are 3 spirits following me due to my fortune telling. These spirits wants to use me. I’ve always had 6th sense and I do sometimes see different types of ghost or shadows. so I already knew things were following me. But to hear that out from her mouth was pretty uncomfortable to me still. But I tried to act calm, then she asked me what religion I belonged to. I said I’m a Christian (but I don’t really act like one) Then she looked at me and said “no, there’s no God in your heart.” She correctly pointed out who are the important ones in my heart. It’s the first time I met her and she got it correctly. I had two important ones in my heart, she named them both correctly. One of them is my dog. Which is really impossible to Guess correctly. I practice divination but I can’t tell what people think or know. She was able to say it correctly about what me and my Friends truly feel. So I was really amazed by her and to hide my embarrassment that she did not see God in me. I drank my beer and I was looking up the ceiling and in my heart. I said “ sorry God, she didn’t see you in me” I did it in my heart while drinking the beer and while looking at the ceiling. Then suddenly she told me loudly “there’s an angel beside you!” She told me this is the first time she saw an angel. Because she had never seen any Gods even though she was a Buddhist. She then told me what the angel wants to tell me. This angel said I should stop doing fortune telling for others and stop going to different masters to learn about my life. Because my life is in a book of God instead so people will not be able to tell my life correctly anyway. She also said my life wasn’t supposed to be like this. God had a plan for my life, but I chose to go my path instead. I immediately knew it’s the book of Life. She didn’t know because she’s not a Christian. But ever since I was young, for some reasons I don’t know.. I’ve always scribbled and draw a book with the letters “Book of Life” all over my textbooks and on papers whenever I am bored. Long story short after that experience I did not fully gave up fortune telling. But after some time I was determined to stop fortune telling. Then One night, I had a dream. I saw a man asking me why I want to quit fortune telling. I said I don’t want to continue anymore, he kept asking and I kept rejecting. Then he got so angry his head came off him and rushed to me. I normally could control my dream to my advantage but I wasn’t able to then. I didn’t know what to do so I said either Jesus or Jesus save me. Then a bright light came over me from the top, it was so bright it blinded my eyes. When I open my eyes again, I was in a room. I was sitting in a chair with a table that had breakfast, Jesus was sitting on my right side calmly eating. There was a half opened door infront of us, and a black hole/black portal in the middle of the half opened door. Many people were trying to come in, but they would walk into that black hole and get thrown out. It kept happening. I was terrified there, I was afraid of those that were trying to come in but I was more afraid of Jesus. Every time I tried to look at His face I was filled with fear. I felt so ashamed and so guilty when I saw him. So much so I wished I could hide my face in under the ground. So I could only kept looking at his sandals. He wore a white robe and he had a brownish red sash across. He had dark brown hair, with slight curl. He also had dark brown beard. But He looked very clean and neat. I don’t know how to explain it. It felt really Royal and Holy. I don’t know how to explain His face, because it filled me with fear when I look at Him. Then He spoke to me with a gentle yet firm voice. When He spoke to me it wasnt heard by my ears, I heard it in my chest/heart area loud and clear. It was as if it’s downloaded into me. He knew what I was thinking without me saying a single word. Which is when he said “Have faith, for I Am with you” Then I was still afraid while looking at those trying to rush in our room. Then He said again “Have faith, for they cannot hurt you” Then I saw a lady taking food in and I knew at that moment without His permission, no one can come in. Once I understood this, I woke up in this body. While I was there I had this sensation of rest in my body, when I woke up I still have that sensation. I couldn’t move because my body was so at rest, it’s different from sleep paralysis which I used to go through. This was so calm and peaceful. and the weirdest thing was I can’t remember who I am and why am I here(earth). It was as if my spirit was taken out and then put back to my body. It felt like this place (earth) is not the real place. It felt this place is more like a dream compared to where I was in Jesus’s presence. It felt more real there. It took me about a minute or so for my memories on earth to come back to me. After that I went drinking with that girl with spiritual eyes again. The first thing she said when she saw me was “ Have you seen God?!” I was shocked and asked her how did you know? Then she said Spirits all around are telling her that. She also said there’s a different angel beside me now. She was saying how tall they are and the genders are different. Can’t remember the first time was male or female. But one day I heard the Holy Spirit telling me I cannot rely on her anymore, i need to rely on God instead and that I will never see her again. And true enough, I couldn’t see her again due to some reasons. God Himself slowly changed me over the years. I used to have experiences with sleep paralysis and seeing spirits, and I realise the name of Jesus is indeed powerful and it works EVERY single time. I’ve also witnessed my Grandfather who died and was pronounced dead by the Doctors came back to life infront of me and my family when I was a teenager. He said heaven was really beautiful and that we have to believe in Jesus. Even though he still died 3 days later, many of my family members including myself was convinced God is real. I am no longer doing divination (not even horoscope) and I’ve changed a lot over the years as the Holy Spirit work in me. God has took away many of my past addictions I’ve had. I am not perfect yet, but I have a perfect God who will never give me up. Jesus is real and He loves us, He loves us even when we couldn’t love ourselves. Sometimes we hear from people how God is and we feel so distant from Him. But God is always waiting for us to come near to Him, because He loves you more than any kind of love you’ve ever known. Have faith in Him. Jesus loves you all. He is coming back soon. See you all one day in heaven/cloud. God bless you all

Personally I think it's bad enough killing all the prisoners, doesn't sound like something we Americans would approve of, but it's pure evil to murder little boys and keep little virgin girls as spoils of war after a massacre. Why do you think the little girls had to be virgins? Sounds like sex slaves to me. Yeah... God is soooo good. Read the Bible for yourself without the preacher picking and choosing for you, as he's not going to tell you about all the horrible and evil things the Bible says God, Moses and Jesus did. That phrase comes from the ancient Jewish wisdom literature section of the Bible, attributed to the “Preacher”. Traditionally, interpreters of Ecclesiastes have identified the “Preacher,” who is also called “the son of David, king in Jerusalem” (1:1), as Israel’s King Solomon (from the tenth century B.C.). Ecclesiastes 3:11 He [God] has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, He has put eternity into man's heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.

What a touching testimony, leading to a wonderful transformation !! If we give peace a chance, and think conscientiously then, we will definitely be able to overcome all the delusions against Jesus and be able to accept Him as our Lord and Master !! This transformation of an atheist, is just too awe-inspiring and something through which we can see the grace and healing touch of the Lord, our Saviour and Master, and of His magnanimous power ! This will definitely instill in us the much needed faith and hope in the Lord, who in turn will never fail in keeping up to His commitment of rescuing us from the bondage of sin, and saving us from being perished eternally !! My daughter ran away. By God’s grace she kept in contact with me. We had been in ministry. She ran to the people that were least like us. They became Christians. She said there was no God. When she saw the change in her boyfriend’s life, that was what showed her that God is real. I do have a son who has not found his way back to God yet. Please pray for him. For parents who are going through this, hang in there. It is such a painful scary thing to go through. I had kind of went through a period where I could not connect with people I did not know well. I got a phone call from a woman I had met but didn’t know. I simply was not in a place where I could develop new relationships. When I was trying to politely tell her that this was not a good time to get together she asked me if I needed prayer. She said she could not stop thinking about me. She lived on the other side of the country! I know how scary this is. I know what it is like to get a phone call at two in the morning because my daughter was hungry. We had told her she could come home but she had to live by our rules. I told her that if she was in danger call me and I would come and get her but I was so sorry I could not feed her. She did end up coming back and living under our rules. She is now a Mom who is teaching her children to follow God. She is an AWANA worker. There are so many stories that don’t have my happy ending. I want to say this. God absolutely positively adores your child. One thing I would say is I would say “you are better than that behavior” Putting it that way gives them nothing to throw against. It compliments the child rather than insult them. The other is don’t lecture them even though everything in you wants to. That way, the next time they get it wrong, they will be more willing to come to you.

@michaelmelter2271 2 года назад
The apostles would disagree. There are many times we see through the book of Acts evangelism outside of that dichotomy. It's not to say relational evangelism doesn't have it's place, but to say that is shouldn't be done outside of that, I believe goes beyond the clear teaching of Scripture. God bless.
@CSUnger
@CSUnger 2 года назад
@@michaelmelter2271 You know, Michael, you were correct to call me out on that. I did not mean that we should not do extemporaneous street preaching, however. What I meant was that we need that personal element in our preaching or evangelism in order for it to be most effective. But after thinking about it I had to agree with you, knowing from first hand experience that sometimes I DO NOT care about them UNTIL I start evangelizing. It's a strange phenomenon. So, you are absolutely correct and I should have hesitated before making such a blanket statement. One thing I am learning though is just how much actually caring about the person I am speaking with, as a person, elevated my effectiveness greatly. In fact, aside from trusting Jesus through His Holy Spirit, and learning the Biblical models for evangelism, it has to be the next most important element a believer must learn in evangelism. So, thanks for the correction.

While I was living in postpartum depression and my husband’s cocaine addiction, I saw two bodiless demons hovering over my bedroom ceiling. Through all the supernatural phenomena, my husband went to drug rehab and I started to read the Bible and we both became Christians exactly same day and hour . It’s been 36 years ago and we are still praising our Savior Jesus Christ. I remember I witnessed to my Japanese friend who was an engineer and atheist . After I shared the gospel more than 40 minutes, he looking at my face and told me he doesn’t understand a word I said to him . Jesus is the Way. Subjective Truth and Moral Relativism when actually walked out begats the misery he spoke of. Those who walk that out honestly became like Nietzsche and sound like this man Nathan. Hahahaha 🤣 And all you need to do to be an athiest is ignore the staggering elements of design in every facet of creation, all accounts throughout all time and regions of the world of all supernatural phenomena, the fact that all ancient people groups have always believed in heaven, Hell, spirits, demons and gods, and the fact that scripture is replete with fulfilled prophecy that is demonstrably true and archeologicalky verifiable. 1400 years before Jesus Christ walked the Earth, the Old Testament prophecied that through the Messiah, the whole world would know the One True God. Wow. Lucky guess, I suppose. To believe the universe was not created is literally the most ignorant position one could possibly hold. You have a better chance of being struck by lightning 30 times than a protein has of randomly assembling itself from peptides and amino acids in ideal laboratory conditions, but you think that it somehow happened in the vacuum of space, with any given chaos, in the perfect order, in the perfect timing to create life when it's never been shown to be true. Absolute bonkers levels of delusion. Chemistry, physics and mathematics must have preceded the universe in order for the universe to exist. Do you understand that? You would never be so daft as to look at a book and say it created itself, but you look at an infinity more complex strand of DNA and think that somehow, it must have created itself. That order must have came from chaos, even though, *all evidence ever points to the fact that nothing works like that* Oh well. Keep banking on how mature you are. 😆

There's no doubt that when you're in the deepest, darkest times of your life, spirituality may save lives. But just because your spirituality helped you back from those dark places doesn't mean everything is true. What you need to understand is that you are not saved by association to a denomination any denomination, only through Christ Jesus can you get to the Father through faith and obedience, keep the commandments of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ.👍🏻

You are so wrong in your advice since the only way to come to Jesus is with nothing in your hand: no obedience, no works, just faith in his Word.

@@mynameis757 A foundation of good works, and Obedience to God's commandments, laws, and statues is necessary to walk daily with Jesus. It's necessary because the spirit, heart, and mind feeds on what one does on a daily basis. Example, a person whom drinks on a daily basis. Years pass, the addiction has become stronger, and this addiction has new friends called drugs, laziness, ECT. Do you think this person will find Jesus, if he/she can't even get up from bed, except to drink? The first commandment says to love God above everything else. One needs to love Jesus with spirit, heart, and mind. If one fills one's spirit, heart, and mind with alcohol, drugs, porn, foul language, pride, ECT....this polluted self/ road will not lead to Jesus Christ.

I was brought up Catholic turned atheist at 14. I thought Christians were weird, annoying, and needed a moral guideline to base their life on so they made up a "god" and stories. I would get so irritated when they preached to me and didn't understand why they just couldn't accept we had different beliefs. I am skeptical and science motivated. I need to see, hear, touch etc...to believe. Like this man, at 33 I had the "scales fall of my eyes" in my bedroom in the middle of the night and woke up a completely different person. I could see and understand. I hungered for the Word. I started playing which I had previously seen as selfish and wishful thinking. Now I'll tell anyone who will listen about God. I love hearing others with similar stories. It validates that what I've experienced has happened to others.

I am not at all surprised by this testimony, I have seen such "atheists" turn to religion. I have grown up listening to such testimonies in church. I have been an atheist for over 20 years, after being a devout evangelical christian well into my 20s. My entire immediate and extended family is christian and every once in a while, I get questions about what terrible thing happened that "destroyed my faith". I was always perplexed at why they would assume I had something bad happen to me. I have realized that from the Christian (or religious) POV, you become an atheist only when bad things happen. To me it seems that this gentleman's position was never carefully considered. He had loosely held beliefs about what God is and decided to walk away from it, which is not a carefully considered atheistic position at all. For someone with strong beliefs, it is extremely difficult to step out of the comfort of "sky man looking out for me", and face down "eternal hellfire and damnation". It's like trying to bungee jump despite knowing you are well secured, as every cell of your body is resisting it. My own journey to rejecting religion took 3-4 years. For anyone with loosely held positions, whether atheistic or religious, right wing or left wing, or anything else, its much easier to convince them one way or other.

I can relate. I was raised Catholic and never had any trauma or bad experiences but always struggled with doubt. It took me about 40 years to admit to myself I did not believe. The initial shock of losing my faith was painful but that passed pretty quickly. I soon realized how much emotional energy I had been expending trying to believe something that makes no sense. I am always open to new evidence for Christianity but C S Lewis' "liar, lunatic or lord" schtick certainly won't cut it.

@baskeptic1161 Год назад
@@aclark903 Not at all. There are plenty of brilliant Christians. Francis Collins being a prime example. My understanding is that Collins became a Christian because he was on a hike and saw a waterfall frozen in 3 columns and took it as a sign of the trinity. Even the most intelligent among us can believe things for bad reasons.
