i seem not to cherish the nigeria's anchor-man b/c he slowed down too much at the initial part of the race allowing aussie n brit to overtake him. nigeria needs to use its younger runners, who surprisingly clock lower times!
Bruce is one of the great commentators. He's a great caller, but he's the most knowledgable of commentators (especially when it comes to athletics) his enthusiasm for the sport just comes through. He's great.
Just listened to Johnny Steffensen talk about this race and the commitment the Aussie boys made to each other. Had to have another look. Amazing race from the underdog Aussie boys! Steffensens passion for Aussie athletics is so infectious and upbeat…you rock mate!
I'm an American, but just love to hear announcers from other places. This is America's premier event - despite running alone, they came within a second and a half of breaking the WR.
Just found this, still pumps me up. Such an achievement to win the silver medal. I ran a 400 meter race once, yes once. So bloody hard I never went near it again. This is up there with Cathy for me. ✌️🙏🤘
He is a legend and a great representative to Australia , I am not sure why people have been putting so many nasty comments on this site as the Boys were so happy just to have come second. Americans You have 256 million people if my calculations are correct that is 235 million more people to choose from then Australia . That is why we are so proud
It’s remarkable how used to HD I’ve gotten. That old video was barely watchable. 😂. But I watched it anyway because I love watching these Olympic races.
Ingo Schultz of Germany whipped ass in Lane 8 on the first leg! I've never seen someone perform that well in an Olympic final out of Lane 8! Go Ingo! Go Germany! =D
Biased or not, that was great commentary as you could hear the pride and surprise in his voice. Aussies probably ran the smartest race because USA was so dominant that teams might have cooked themselves in the first 200 of the anchor that the Aussie got and draft and then hit them from 175 out. Cheers to the Aussie team on that silver medal.
When it comes to the quarter mile the USA is HUGELY dominant. We could prolly field three whole teams with them and take gold, silver and bronze.Don't believe me go to one of the big relay carnivals in the USA.
Go bother to check the all time 4x400m records, your statement is absolute bullshit. Only the very best US teams have posted times better than GB, Jamaica and Bahamas who hold the 8/9/10/11/12th fastest times ever. In fact given the known dope cheats in the US teams at least five of the fastest times ever should be removed including the fastest due to known dope cheats on the US teams. Steve Lewis, Kevin Young, Butch Reynolds, Quincy Watts is probably a doper, wins the gold at 400m after less than two years doing the event and a nobody. US athletics reeks of doping!
@@baseball0681 Why? For telling the truth! You may not like it but all USA sprinters have been suspect since the late 1960's. Only athletes to have ever run close to USA times usually got caught for doping. Why can't USA runners match it with the world over 3000 and beyond. Juice does not help over distances longer than 800metres that's why. Simple facts.
man i'm excited for 2008, obviously the USA is gonna dominate again, but we stand a good chance for getting silver again. Not to mention steffenson has improved immensely since this race and is now 1 of the best in the world.
@@stevecrocker6904 The top 5 American college 4x400 teams could definitely compete for Olympic or World Championship silver any given year. The stack is so deep that the USA could bring dozens of alternates and since people have good and bad days, it would only make a few tenths of a second difference in the entire race.
I just wish America was in to the sport as much as other countries:/ There's not a whole lot of national pride here we really just take it for granted.
I haven’t followed track in years, but it seems like the Americans are always the team to beat in the 4x400 relay. We haven’t always had the best 400m man, but the best group of four?
Except for a few Olympics we Aussies usually punch above our weight. Most Olympics we win 30-40+ medals At Tokyo for example we were the 6th highest medallists. Considering USA has 14 times the population we got almost half the medals you got. Just shows you know little about the Olympics and see everything through stars and stripes glasses lol
The real contested race in the 4x400 (except for the case in 91 worlds and 2012 Olympics) is always for silver and Bronze. A new Platinum medal should be awarded if the winning team finishes 5 seconds ahead of second place. This way, gold, silver, and bronze can go to the teams really competing for medals.
Look at Jeremy, he's skinny as a rail. He's NOT on roids. 400 meter runners would get too bulky if they took roids. You NEED conditioning to compete in 400m. Roids help the 100m and 200m sprinters NOT the 400 meter runners.
Several good runs in that race. USA was always going to win unless DQ'd for something. Everyone else was running for silver and Bronze and all gave themselves a chance at different stages.
You are right and wrong. There is bias because it is an Australian commentary team and the performance to finish second to an outstanding US relay team was great. However you are wrong to suggest or allude that bias is limited to one country - try listening to the races involving American, British and even NZ commentary and the bias for their own people is present. If you disagree I suggest you listen to the 1984 Olympic Games 200m men's Butterfly final or the Commonwealth Games in NZ for the 4x100m women's relay final. Both of these won by Australia but the commentary in both is almost breathtaking in it lack of objectivity and inaccuracy - particularly the Commonwealth games one.
They were not expected to get past the 1st round, let alone a semi and then Silver in the final. That's worth celebrating no matter which country you are from.
our state has 1.2m people. of that, about 100 compete in T&F at a reasonably high level, it isnt supported by universities and is barely televised..even the nationals arent televised. There'd be less than 1000 T&F athletes country wide who have any talent. On the other hand, AFL is teeming with talented athletes...
Actually their lungs tend to be genetically bigger wherever if they live in places with high altitudes such as Nigeria and Kenya. The air is thinner the higher you up go so they need to have larger lings to take in more oxygen
isn't it great to hear two knowledgeable commentators in Raelene Boyle and Bruce Macavaney. Such a change from the myopic part-time T&F turnups from some places. And no surprise here, the commentators are calling for the Aussie public. Hard to take I know, but other countries aren't barracking for the "States", though they give credit where it's due.
The matter of fact is, why does it happened so often to me in Australia and not in America or European. I have not met anyone who verbally attack me or ignore to serve me in those country. In Australia, I've had like a 50-50 kind of treatment. And I've been like 20 times to Australia allready.
